- One late evening I was driving to view a property a new client had sent me for a lawn care estimate and noticed this overgrown yard right across the street. I went over and knocked on the homeowners door and a man answered it. I asked him if everything was alright and if he needed any help mowing his tall grass. He told me that he had just moved into this place in winter and has been saving up for a lawn mower in order to mow. With working a full time job, very high rent, and other expenses in his life, saving up for a lawn mower has been tough. He's trying his hardest! He even told me how he's riding his bicycle to and from work to save on fuel cost. With fuel being over $5.00 per gallon in most states, I can see why he has to!

@@leonardomigot4040 Leo, good point, what difficulties are the chores to removing and sharpening those blades? It must be an hours work with knowledge to do so and diligence to do so on a regular basis. Seems to me 4 to 5 hours a year just on the blades. Now, lets think about the hours and hours of tune-ups and cleanings of the hand power tools. To me, per job at least one hour per job in maintaining the tools. Another folks forget is the one hour plus dumping the debris. What do you think, leonardo migot

It never ceases to amaze me how neighbors will allow yard to get so funky. It devalues everyone’s homes.
My Dad always was helping the neighbors with mowing and snow blowing and anything else they needed, including car engine repairs. Never asked for anything in return.

With so much stuff being battery power now, it makes things very easy for everyone. Some trimmers you just replace the head with a pre filled cartridge so no winding string or anything. Good luck

In spring it develops large fruiting bodies, divided into cap and stalk, with a honeycomb cap in yellowish, greyish or brownish tones in shades from pale to brown. It is a very popular edible mushroom with a high recognition value. It is also traded dried.
If get it wrong identifying the mushroom it can come with deadly consequences. My two bits worth- unless you are with an experienced mushroom picker it’s probably best not to touch. Become well educated before picking and consuming. Good job helping another person in need!

Great job with the Yard work and sidewalk and the parking spot FYI a lot of older houses had that lil bit of grass left in-between I don't know why but they did many year's ago.

Fantastic transformation! It is very sad that renters are charged astronomical rents that don't include lawn/yard care. It's obvious from all the work you have done that that outside area has been in a bad state for more than one winter. There's very few landlords out there that actually care about their tenants. Thank the Lord there are people like you Fill who are so happy to help out in the neighbourhood.

@Julie Love two sides to every story is the rental inside in similar condition, requiring major reno when tenant bolts I'm no landlord, but landlord needs to save for catastrophic repairs i.e.- meth lab destruction and health dept rehab demands pride of home cures all.

Suggestion.... Ride your mower over beside a tall bush or tree and stand on top of it to trim high branches or tree limbs!

even though the grass is too high, it is lush and green.... AND the sunlight dancing on the ground through the trees is a bonus.. I love shadows. this is one of my favorites you have done. Very entertaining and relaxing way to spend a Sunday afternoon.

Geez, that's an issue anytime you get involved in any kind of "charity." A real turn off. I used to volunteer with an organization that helped older people get to the store, etc. And some of the people were wonderful, but others were actually demanding! Blew my mind and turned me off of volunteering.
And to clarify, I didn't need anybody to be "grateful." I truly wanted to help. But the users just killed it for me. Probably a flaw in my personality. I just can't put up with that.

I actually love this transformation. The ground is actually green! Usually all you guys mow it down to the dirt. Which I don't think is a good look. But I figured there had to be a reason for that if everyone was doing it.

I can tell that you love what you do. No matter what you just cant stand it any longer to see someone's yard suffering and screaming your name out loud for help. On top of that you did it for free. Now that's huge! The work looks great!

Not just that but, depending on the lease's wording, technically wouldn't it be the Owner's responsibility (or property management)? Or to at least provide a mower.....!

As you probably know by now but that mushroom is a morel mushroom. Clean them to get any dirt/sand and or bugs out of them. We soak them in salt water for an hour or so, rinse them off well, and dry them with a paper towel. We dip them in egg and roll them in cracker crumbs and fry them with butter in a frying pan until golden brown on all sides. You can't beat the taste. We have spent hours and hours hunting them in the timber. My mother always told me that if you find one there will be another not too far away (she just didn't want me to stop looking I think). The first ones that come out in the spring just before Mother's day are small grays then the big yellows come out. Thanks, J.R.

This is a prime example of why I had lawn service added into my rent cost when I had a rental. Easier on all parties involved, kept the HOA off my back, and wasnt a financial/time burden to the tenant. It's actually alot to ask from a renter to take care of a lawn. Great job in helping him out.

If I were the landowner, I would raise the rent & hire a professional lawn care company to take care of the lawn weekly or biweekly. This is a nice corner lot & it would have been a shame to watch it deteriorate over time. Great rescue!

This is a super effort to knock down and restore such an overgrown yard. It takes patience and dedication to help this home renter, and you knocked it out of the park. That string trimmer and gas mower are essential tools for this level of overgrowth and neglect. The good edging sure makes the yard stand out. Really well done 👏

That was such a huge transformation. It looks so much better. It's amazing how much a little edging makes to top off a mowing job.
And once you do the hard initial part, it's very easy afterwards to maintain.
