Ronnie is right - winning two consecutive ranking titles at the age of 46 having started that season outside the top 16 - will always be one of snookers greatest comeback stories.
Doug was one of that select band of the late '70s that embodied everything that was great about snooker and made it the game that it is today. He came up the hard way in a world of real men and women, and had that character and presence that made those players household names. An absolute gent who always looked and carried himself like the total professional he was, and a great role model for any young player. He had a superb technique and was always great to watch. Doug elevated the game of snooker whenever and wherever he played. A giant of Welsh snooker and one of the very best of all time.
Can't believe Doug has left us! He was a great guy and will be sadly missed by me. I spent many hours playing on the table next to Doug at Darren's Club. His Weekly game of Pool with his biggest fan his Cousin Roy.
Doug was a Marvellous Gentleman. Colorful, Humble, would talk to anyone. Great Player and A Great Ambassador For Wales ! I was so pleased for him when he Won his 2
I had no idea he had passed away until I saw this. That final between him and Davis was the first match I ever went to see live. One of the great names in snooker, and clearly highly respected amongst his peers.
Tough competitor, great player, Doug was a gentleman, one of the early players from the 70's and 80's, rest in peace.
A fitting tribute a gentleman and a fantastic player RIP Doug sadly missed
