The Making of Greywolf Quadsuit 2014

  • Hey guys,
Well I know that this is long overdue, but its better late than never I guess. Here is how I made my Greywolf Quadsuit. It took 8 months to design, gather supplies, put together, etc. and I did have some helping hands because there were some things I never handled before (such as power tools). Anyways, here's a list of supplies that I gathered to make my Greywolf Quadsuit:
    -Pink Insulation Foam
    -PVC Pipes (4",3", 1/2")
    -Carriage Bolts & Screws
    -Battery Powered Christmas Lights LED
    -Wires & Switches
    -Upholstery Foam (Green Foam)
-Faux Fur (White Luxury Shag & Fabu Light Grey)
    -Liquid Latex (Mold Builder)
    -Plaster (Plaster of Paris)
    -Sculpey
-Acrylic Paint (White, Grey, Pink, etc.)
    -Swimwear Netting
The estimation costs of making Greywolf comes to: $500 (maybe more). Making fursuits/quadsuits is expensive and is time consuming. I know that there are quite a few of you out there that want to make your own costume. Here's one thing that you need to keep in mind: "Commitment."
Making a fursuit/quadsuit takes a lot of time, patience, & commitment (it's not always easy) and here's one piece of advice I have for any of you that are beginners: make the simplest character possible (like one color).
The more colors you use, the longer it'll take to put your costume together. Anyways, here are a few users that made tutorial (how to) videos or the works of their projects:
    / caninehybrid
    / tsebresos
    / dartthedenseboy
    / matricesoddity
    / 2mischiefmakers
Watching their videos has helped me make Greywolf. My experiences with my Greywolf Quadsuit was something. The first time I wore him, it was hot (Rose City Comic Con's AC was broken and I didn't even know). My first lesson was to limit myself in the quadsuit and I actually went over that limit at the convention (2 hours walking around in Greywolf in a hot building). I should have taken Greywolf off when I was really hot and sweating because I almost passed out (even though I was drinking water). So in my opinion, it's probably not a good idea to cosplay in a fursuit/quadsuit during the Summer season.
Now about the PVC Pipe stilts, they are lighter than wooden stilts, but the problem is that they don't let me roam around much (this is a problem for me and other people that have long legs and short torsos). So wooden stilts are probably best to use instead of PVC pipes (and probably less work).
Anyways, I hope this helps any of you who are making fursuits/quadsuits. Good luck with your projects. I'm not sure when my next one is, but I'll announce it when the time comes.

The biggest thing i can suggest for this is you need longer stilts. You are curving you back and supporting most of your weight on your back legs. This will put pressure on your neck, back and legs.
You will also need to make a dtd in the quad position. That way you can get the padding right. You need more butt padding and more chest padding. Less thigh padding and move it up Your leg.
I will also suggest that you put an elastic strap from the helmet to the belt holding the tail. That head looks extremely heavy.

samajula Well the problem I have is that I have long legs and a short torso. Even though you are supposed to keep your back & legs straight, I can't do both so I have to bend my legs. I have practiced walking in those stilts and making sure I keep my back straight. The walk I did in this video was my first time and I know that I was walking in the stilts incorrectly. I do have a strap installed and it connects from the helmet to my waist. The head did feel heavy at first, but I got used to it. It's more comfortable to wear this quadsuit during the winter season.

Hello i would like to know what the fabric used for the vision under the neck is called and where i can find it?

+Ruby Fox I got most of my fabrics & supplies at Joann's. I believe the fabric is called vinyl mesh/net mesh or something. Think of it as a wedding veil. You can find that at Joann's and Hobby Lobby. Hope this helps :)

+sydney rose If you're talking about the head part. What I did first was pin the fleece/faux fur in place and then hot glued it. Some parts were hand sewn as well. Now if you're talking about the foam pieces for the body, I actually left those separate. It's not necessary to hot glue the body pieces to the fur. Once I put on the suit, I put/stuff the foam pieces in its place. These body pieces help give Greywolf his shape. Hope this helps :)
