But I probably would have BETTER super powers if I just worked out for 25 years without all the leg problems.
Same with losing weight. When I was skinny, I didn't feel noticeably stronger as I gained weight while training. But a few years ago I started to gain too much weight and became a bit too fat. But when I started losing weight, I felt significantly stronger for every kilogram I shed.
The major question he didn't test was: is wearing weights at all times AND training significantly more effective than either training alone, or wearing the weights alone?

I'd like to mention that Rock Lee wore his leg weights for years and never took them off so his leg's muscles fully adjusted to the increase in weight to the extent to were he fights and moves around as if he's not wearing weights. the weight check is the funniest part of this video 😂it's definitely muscle gain. Back in the day, my sister forced me into this weight loss program with her and one of the first things they told us is to not be discouraged by the scale. Muscle weighs more than fat and so you aren't going to see your numbers magically drop since your muscle is just replacing your fat. They said, instead of focusing on weight, you should be focusing on inches. You'll see more progress with a measuring tape than a scale.
I’ve also always heard that 5 lbs of variation per day is completely explainable by whether you just ate & drank a lot for a single meal, or just went to the bathroom. I fully support people having less reliance on a scale to determine progress
I knew a kid who used to wear ankle weights to play basketball. It was maybe about 10lbs total but that kid was ATHLETIC AF. Thank God he never took them off 😅

As someone that wears steel toed boots for work on a daily basis for work I can say that over time there is a noticable difference. They weigh 3-4lbs on average and when I wear sneakers it almost feels funny to walk with the reduced weight.
I kinda had a similar situation when I used to always wear skater shoes to work. I wore them for so many years that one time I decided to switch to running shoes and I felt a huge difference in overall movement. I kinda felt like Sonic and wanted to run all over the place lol
One year in the army wearing military boots all day every day. Then I put my sneakers on and felt like I was walking on air and my legs were made of springs... The feeling passed after a day or two.
Old job I had required steel toed knee length rubber boots, like those typical water boots but steel toed, and I had to wear them standing on concrete all day long for 8-14 hours. My feet, legs, and lower back was so damn stiff and sore fore like the first six months but after that, aside from the occasional annoyance of floppy socks sliding down in the boot, I definitely noticed a difference when I wore sneakers around.
Holy shit! Right?! Switching back into sneakers after work for a game of ball and I'm literally the Flash, for like 20 minutes until the smokers cough sets in.
@Rat Prophet you mean like most humans period? Imagine saying we need another WAR where people will die just to toughen men up 🥴 I’d rather dudes just be soft lmao
I wore heavy steel-toe boots for years because I figure that it would at least passively help me push myself even during regular life and keep my fitness level higher. And I would have to say that I do think that it did do that a little bit, or at least it felt that way. But eventually my knees started to give out and now I can’t do the exercise that I used to do before because of it. So now I am much worse than I would have been if I had not done that, for a marginal improvement while I was able to do it. And I am not even that old yet! When people say to be careful with your joints, they are not kidding!
As someone who has personally used ankle weights while training martial arts, I can testify that it's incredibly effective for speed and coordination if used in very short time periods (30 minutes or less), make sure you're careful using correct technique with footwork and kicks, DO NOT OVERDO IT OR YOU WILL HURT YOURSELF
@@Matt-jc2ml I have a simple real world solution that wouldn't do any harm to joints and show maximum benefits of weighted clothing, fat people, your are naturally stronger when you weigh more because you are used to moving more weight, but if you actually exercise, you lose weight if you are doing calisthenics they become easier, because less weight over time. So how to fix this, if you start out real fat, add weight clothing proportionally to your weight loss, so no strength is lost, and it shouldn't harm your joints anymore than being fat would have. So say starting at 300lbs, if you can do a pull up, pushups, run, whatever, as you lose weight, doing all those things now at say 180lbs after a couple years, but with 120lbs of weighted clothing would make you extremely strong and agile, no other training needed. Actually not much strong in this scenario from the start, but a 180lb guy with the strength of a 300lb guy. Also weight could probably be worn all day, since again you already wore it all day as fatty.
my father did that training when i was a baby, he became so fast that he cannot be seen by the naked eye, sometimes i think that he abandoned us but neeeeeh he might probably just to fast to see
One thing to remember for all types of weight exercises is that even if your muscles are ready to move up on weights, your joints may not be. Always start slow!
To be honest, I think it also illustrates how being overweight affects energy levels. He had so much weight on his legs and he didn't want to move and it was exhausting just to exist- from what I've seen that's exactly how really overweight people feel.
I've read somewhere before that the knees are designed to support compressive forces. So when you have lots of weights on your lower leg, it may lead to injury easily because it tractions the knee instead.
I rememeber Guy talking about how Lee has them on like 24/7 training and punching and jumping. He kicked the shit out of Sasuke like an episode earlier and didnt even remove them
Jokes aside, he has the determination to wear those dingy, weighted ammo-pouches around his legs and go out in public. Truly embodies Rock Lee's character.
I remember in highschool, I had a 20lb backpack, and I would always have to go up and down stairs twice a day. Eventually I was able to leap up 2 stairs at a time with the bag on, and at the end of the year, I was able to leap 4 to 5 steps in one bound. That's my data I guess.
A weighted backpack wouldn’t be entirely bad, as your back and legs are mostly at work, but putting weights on both of your legs while doing regular activities is bad since your body can’t really recover, in the end it actually messes you up more than anything
0:50 Hi!, I'm Japanese🖖 the kanji for this scene is written as "根性 - Konjou". It means "Guts or Spirit" By the way, Rock Lee's voice actor is my friend😁
11:55 I think this video specifically this moment, is a great way to show how hard it is for people who are obese to loose weight. It’s not just about getting up and going to the gym to burn a few extra pounds. It is so much more and so many people just either don’t understand or refuse to care.
Yet a lot of those people aren’t even attempting to try an better themselves. They just let themselves go with no attempt at stopping it to any degree. Stfu
If you want to lose weight you don’t need exercise, you just need a better diet. Exercising to lose weight is the biggest misconception of the human race. Just like this guy showed in the video, he exercised a lot and gained 6 pounds instead of losing weight. Obese people can quite literally go multiple days in a row without eating ANY solid food, and they will lose weight (just drink water).
No sir. Obese people have had years to acclimate their body to the increased weight by developing some skeletal muscle underneath that much fat. This guy's body had no time to ramp up its muscle growth to support that excess weight. Stop making excuses
fun fact, that running actually came about so that samurai could run without getting their hands caught by either sword at the hip.... so yea, if he was wearing swords he could run faster. If not, it wouldnt make a difference. I know thats not your point, I just thought it was a cool fact to share.
another problem was he pushed things too fast, Lee got that strong in about a year, maybe two years of rigorous training, this guy literally tried to do it in two weeks and literally didnt even train with the weights on, so by the time he had to run the tests again, his body wasnt ready for it, so he couldnt get the full results.

Plot twist: He tricked everyone into thinking that it basically doesn’t work, but in reality he’s as fast a Rock Lee and doesn’t want this power getting into the wrong hands.
@@zai1549 speed is almost synonymous with power. In physics, momentum is equal to mass times velocity. So let's say theoretically, Lee's leg stays the same weight. If he can move said leg much faster, that means he packs a lot more power. A real-world example would be Bruce Lee. Bruce Lee kicked so fucking fast that he knocked a 300 lb bag around like a tetherball. He was only around 140 lb, but holy fuck he was fast. The only real reason people have that "power and speed are different things" idea is more for entertainment. But rest assured a faster attack means it packs way more of a punch. Haha. Punch. 'Cause we're talking about attacking. Alternatively, you could increase your mass and pack more power into your hit, but it's a lot harder to move when you do, so speed it is.
@Sean Francis Waters Lancaster Err.. and what is the base comparison? Volume, right? The same volume of muscle is 3 times heavier than fat, because it's denser.. smh
I think the most important difference is that in the anime he uses it until he notices improvements with the weight on, you have not noticed any improvement, on the contrary, you were more tired. In the anime he would have gotten tired too, but he would have continued for 2 more months or whatever it took to learn to move with the weights as if they weren't there.... At that point is where you take them off and the universe explodes.
This might get buried, but that 3 pounds you gained after your first weigh in is probably because your body started to retain water so you could have more blood to pump!! It’s a good sign because you’re doing enough to cause you body to adapt!
ESPECIALLY because he didn't change his diet. A new trainee could theoretically put on muscle fairly quickly with a good program and nutrition. But pretty quickly still means 0.5 to MAYBE 1 lb in a month. Not 3 lbs in 2 weeks.
@Brianna Ogbulu Thank you for this! It happened to me last month, and I didn't understand what it was happening, since I was eating less but I was lifting more consistently.
LMFAOOOO I cried from the laughs with the weights on your legs. And especially with the DB dude that his weight dropped down. A tip for you: It's natural that you'd tire your legs like this. It's wise to give them time to restore their stamina, while they build their own muscles and masses. A untrained person would be tired and have sore legs the next day you wear them. It's common. A trained person would wear then and run, but at the limit at where they can hold on. Try going at a gym and see if you can lift anything with your hands. If you hurt your hands, this means that it's your body limit. If you wanted to get to those weights' limit, you'd need to start low until your body gets used to them eventually.
I think on a random peak day, you'd see a horde of them distributed in special (public) places. But that's without this pandemic. My thought only though 😅
Sir I applaud you. When I was younger I worked as a projectionist and worked my way up to 20lb ankle weights, for a total of 40lbs. I probably would have kept going but that was the maximum weight I could find. I know exactly what you went through, and exactly how your legs feel when they come off, lol.
Just picture this, carrying 25 lbs of weight on each leg is equivalent to trying to lug around two average sized 2-year olds hanging onto your legs for dear life. I wouldn't recommend that as an exercise regimen. ;)
i mean kind of. Legs arent meant to house that kind of weight, whereas holding something on your side is a lot easier, even if you double the weight its still easier to have a 3 or 4 year old cling to your side than around your legs. For an example of the difference, have that same child attach themselves to your leg and try walking.

Yeah you could easily get tendonitis, bursitis or torn ligaments. Correct form is crucial. Leaning to far forward or back will put ENORMOUS strain on both adductor and hamstring tendons. You DO NOT want adductor tendonitis. You will want to die. You can't sit, lie down, stand still or walk (even sit on the toilet) without being in pain. Slowly does it. The injuries are never worth the saved time by doing exercises quickly. Make sure you know how to correctly squat so your knees are following the correct track. Check that your hips and knees are healthy. Chiropractor or Osteopath.
I feel like 2 weeks isn't enough time to get a good read on whether leg weights would make you faster or not. But thank you for giving it a shot and informing us on your results.
I feel like it needs to be said that Rock Lee trained, like, his whole life to get up to those weights in the Garaa fight. You gotta take it slow, my dude.
It's also like just not a good idea in general. It puts so much extra strain on your joints with no great benefit. Efficient training is done at high intensity in short bursts.
As much as Lee's training is motivational asf, that type of training is really not good in reality as it does give you a higher risk of injuries therefore being more detrimental for your physical health. Better to just stick with other training methods than something from a fictional show that isn't entirely ideal for a kind of heavy training unless I guess you're someone that wants to test it out in a similar way consistently and safely sure go ahead or just really wants to do something differently and prove them wrong but good luck with the risk for that
One of the biggest bullshit things in the show was how Sasuke trained a month and somehow managed to 'copy' rock Lee's speed with the sharingon even though he doesn't use Chakra to get that fast.
@@johngun7418 One of the biggest bullshit in anime is how they can heal or don't get serious injuries. I once ripped my hamstring it took like 6months to heal from working out. So any training in anime is used with the ability to be able to heal or they are just lucky.
@@MakamaFEET i mean they're basically different species than us. It's like, there's saiyans and there's normal people. They have chakra we don't. @@HugoStuff the rubbing against your legs would stop you from going very fast at all, the feeling you get after taking them off is just increased adrenaline forcing your muscles to work harder than they need to. This stress it induces also adds up like overtraining so if you did this your entire life it would reduce your lifespan by a lot
I used ankle weights for soccer. And if combine that with regular training it improves your agility alot. The trick is using the right amount of weights to not injure yourself.
Side note: RockLee type weight training is far more effective when ramped up over time, and it's physically impossible to harness that efficiently over 2 weeks / 4 weeks. If you truly wanted the effect of RockLees training, you need to do it linearly. His training is over a course of years. You start small, say 5lbs per leg / wrist and do that for 4 weeks. Then bump it up every month if you feel "normal" . You are literally training you're body for a different environment. I believe it's 28 days(?) to make or break a habit, apply the same mentalities to you're weight training, and you'll improve your results. Where does my stand point come from? I've been on a "RockLee" type exercise regiment and weight training for 3 years. Yes I know this is an older video, but just thought I'd put my two cents in. Thumbs-up emoji
5lbs is probably a bit much for most people to start with. When I did this type of training, I believe I started at 1.5 lbs per leg and added 0.2 to it every two weeks or so till I got up to 10lbs per leg, while maintaining my normal workouts. I did marathons at the time, and over the course of two years the weights did make a noticeable difference in my endurance, but also did put more strain on my knees. I'm certain it contributed to the knee problems I have now.
Its irrelevant anyway. This kind of training is really inefficient and has a really high chance of injury. If you want to train your legs you're better off just doing squats and deadlifts. It'll build up muscle way faster than leg weights can.
I literary wanted to do this as soon as I saw that episode years ago. I think I was just starting high school or finishing primary school. Anyway, found some leg weights my brother had and put them on and started preparing for school. When my mother saw me she was like - wtf r u doing? I explained, she told me to take that off, that I shouldn't be doing something like that without supervision and if it's not for medical purposes or something. I had lipedema for 25 years, got the surgery this November, they removed 20 lbs of tumors from my legs, and when I got into the gym again I basically had super powers.
@@bludfyreThat's not the only thing. He's assumimg he was going to see the same improvement in his speed with training normally. Any kind of training has diminishing returns, so doing the same thing again will in no way guarantee the same improvements.

As someone that wears steel toed boots for work on a daily basis for work I can say that over time there is a noticable difference. They weigh 3-4lbs on average and when I wear sneakers it almost feels funny to walk with the reduced weight.
Same. Timberland pro’s?

But eventually my knees started to give out and now I can’t do the exercise that I used to do before because of it. So now I am much worse than I would have been if I had not done that, for a marginal improvement while I was able to do it. And I am not even that old yet!

wouldnt it work better in the long term???
The risk to reward is simply not worth it. You can obtain the same result without the risk using proper training.
Ive heard they can damage joints overtime, this is what happened to my uncle. I prefer weighted vests but to each their own
@@Matt-jc2ml I have a simple real world solution that wouldn't do any harm to joints and show maximum benefits of weighted clothing, fat people, your are naturally stronger when you weigh more because you are used to moving more weight, but if you actually exercise, you lose weight if you are doing calisthenics they become easier, because less weight over time.

Obese people can quite literally go multiple days in a row without eating ANY solid food, and they will lose weight (just drink water).

@@zai1549 Explosiveness is probably the best

I cried from the laughs with the weights on your legs.

As much as Lee's training is motivational asf, that type of training is really not good in reality as it does give you a higher risk of injuries therefore being more detrimental for your physical health. Better to just stick with other training methods than something from a fictional show that isn't entirely ideal for a kind of heavy training unless I guess you're someone that wants to test it out in a similar way consistently and safely sure go ahead or just really wants to do something differently and prove them wrong but good luck with the risk for that
yeah id do something like running with the weighted vest as bruce lee did
Every trainer will tell you this, you gotta start low, and keep training
I mean Guy wouldn't let him do it in on sitting.
There are already research papers on this and the most effective is still your usual resistance training with weights.
“When you compare that to pure tungsten it’s actually a deal”
Yeah a deal, maybe even.. a steel

To be fair rock lee trained his whole life from 6am to midnight. That prolly helped more than the weights.
@@MakamaFEET bruh u are stupid, we speak about people who can walk on walls and whatever then you say healing is not real bruhits not rl
@@MakamaFEET i mean they're basically different species than us. It's like, there's saiyans and there's normal people. They have chakra we don't. Maybe they naturally heal faster than us, just like how most animals heal faster and naturally stronger than us. What would be considered bull**** is if we take an anime that has realism to it, like Hajime no Ippo or Haikyuu, and they just heal they're injuries in like weeks, now that's bull**** like BAKI exactly.
@@erickrisdatuin8663 I was just saying that some animes have no explanation as to why they heal faster or why they aren't dead.
I like how he redesigned the weights to be kinder to his joints.
Same here
I dont think any sane person could wear those leg weights without it feeling stupidly awkward.
@@NoSubsWithContent so in short its not working like it expected
Not to mention that he almost never sit xD
5lbs is probably a bit much for most people to start with. When I did this type of training, I believe I started at 1.5 lbs per leg and added 0.2 to it every two weeks or so till I got up to 10lbs per leg, while maintaining my normal workouts.
I did marathons at the time, and over the course of two years the weights did make a noticeable difference in my endurance, but also did put more strain on my knees. I'm certain it contributed to the knee problems I have now.
@@haroldsaxon1075 That's too low bruh
@@RohitDev-wr9bq depends what workout you're doing, what your goals are, and how much damage you want to risk.
Anyway, thanks mom for not letting me do stupid things and hurt myself. I might have been a few seconds faster now, but I guess I'll just focus on my ninjutsu more.
As someone who used to be able to hit 25 mph, essentially the speed limit for normal humans, it's not useful, day to day. I very rarely need to cut 10 seconds of of a walk across town, I just leave early enough to walk it. Especially important because spinal arthritis robbed me of my speed in my 20s. Aside from my mental health, it didn't affect much of my normal routine. Now I'm being treated for the spine and mental health, and I've grown a jiggly gut from the head meds that makes running fast kinda funny to myself. Jiggle wiggle Jiggle wiggle

@@specialbeans5996 No, just a country boy who grew up wrestling and racing dogs, climbing trees, and walking or riding for miles to get a snack at the store. My best time for a 100 meter was... Shit, now I gotta look up what's normal to make sure I'm not making it up. Give me a second to make sure I'm not imagining stories, but I did clock in compared to a car at 25 mph, and in shoes that were badly tied. In return for this burst strength, I didn't have the stamina to retie my shoes and do it again, so not without cost. I'm checking a normal time as of this moment...
OK, literally the first thing I saw was the average person runs 8.7 mph, clearing the hundred meter dash in 27 seconds. I claim 25 mph top speed, and my best time was 10.4 seconds. The math checks out, I wasn't imagining my teenage prowess. I am now very interested in regaining my fitness, since I'm getting the right treatment for Ankylosing Spondylitis in my spine (Fancy name for a specific arthritis), and haven't felt this good in over 13 years, despite being 32.
I might tie it in with efforts to quit smoking, and make it a positive part of my channel. Judging by my first two proper videos, I'm a bit angry and need to show my "self aware and trying to improve" side. I've got 25 pounds of extra fat (my opinion at 205), and could use a solid core, according to my physical therapy. I should start biking, again, now that I can handle the seat being up my ass for hours. Weather is just about right, too.

I did some 25lb dumbbell runs for 2.5 miles and a double 15 pound dumbbell run for the same distance. Could get the first mile in 9 minutes. It really gets the heart rate and lungs going. Two or three days after the dumbbell run I'd be almost two minutes faster than before I did the dumbbell run. Like 21:20 minutes before and 19:30 after and feeling super light with long strides and not breathing hard. I don't recommend it but for me it was only about 12 or 13 percent of my body weight because I was already 235lbs so didn't think there'd be much skeletal risk in my late 20's.

I feel so bad for Rock Lee. He was really mistreated. He didn't defeat any bosses alone despite being so powerful.
Yeah I like him a lot! He has the courage to be different! That's what I love about him! He doesn't care about others telling him he can't be a shinobi without genjutsu and ninjutsu. All he focused on was guy sensei's and his friends positive comments

It would be way etter if Guy defeated Madara and Naruto defeated Kaguya after she took control of her dead body. Lee would help him along the way or defeat some Kage.

I did the math one time, finding a rough estimate of how much force Rock Lee's kicks would have, by running with an estimate I found online for how much his leg weights weigh based on how much ejcta they kick up when they are dropped. The math came out that, if he's kicking at the fastest kick for fighters irl, his kicks are delivering about 1 gigajoule of energy per kick. I don't have the sources anymore though, so 🤷♂️
The moment he put on the 50lbs weights
