The production quality of this show doesn't get the praise it deserves... There are very few youtube board game let's play's that get to this level of production quality. The audio is great, the shots are well planned out (for a multi cam setup at least). Great personality's around the table without them being overly attention hungry. Really love the atmosphere of this show.
I'm a person that needs to watch the game being played before I know if my group will enjoy a game. I appreciate the effort you guys made to make this video, thank you!!!
This episode finally convinced me to pick up this game and I absolutely love it. It even got a few family members who dont normally play games to the table since they are both avid bird lovers. Thank you for all the seasons of Gamenight! Ya'll do such a great job and even though my wallet weeps at times it has helped my family and friends come together more often through this great hobby.
Wow. I watched an instructional on this game on another channel, I won't name because I normally like a lot, and couldn't follow this game at ALL. His video was only 16 mins, but the points you make, make all the difference in understanding the concepts. Great job! I couldn't expect it to be better! I'm talking about the instructional part. I will just watch the other portion, of the play through myself. Maybe. I would rather play, but I will watch it until I'm sure I can play and help others after they see the tutorial at the beginning. But the instruction so far as been fantastic! Hats off to you!
Thank you very much for all 4 people, you people saved our time to explain easily about this game with multiple cam views and good audio quality. your team work is highly Appriciated!
I just started watching "GameNight!", hope Deborah will participate in many episodes; she really makes this the game fresh and happy! Certainly I am happy with all participant, but she is the best. Thank you for this, and all the other "GameNight!" videos!
I was listening to an NPR show where a guest commented that he and his family played boardgames sometimes instead of watching TV. He said they played a lot of Ticket To Ride and Wingspan. My daughter and I have been addicted to Ticket to Ride and play it several times a day sometimes. I pulled off the road and bought this from Amazon. We are getting ready to play, after watching some videos. Can't wait to give it a whirl!
I loved the teacher! He is good at explaining the game. I know I would have been frustrated without his wonderful tutorial. Now I can be a beginner at Wingspan. Thank you for your help.
@@davidarnott6085 You're actually the reason why I have 1/2 if not 3/4 of the games in my current collection. I've watched many of the play throughs with you in it doing the rules and before I know it the game somehow ends up in my collection lol.
Watching you playing was fun and finally permit me to undertand the rules!!!!! Also, the rules where very well explained at the beginning. Thank you so, so much ! ❤

What a great video! Thank you guys so much for explaining and showing how to play in such a fun way 🥰 My wife and I would love to play this game one day 😁 Keep up the amazing production quality! 🤩
Nice explanation of the game. I felt like I was sitting across the table from Dave; the experience was friendly and engaging, and had everything I needed. Thanks you all!
Thanks for this. I watched a couple other videos that just described the game play and kind of got it while reading the instructions. However, this is what I needed! You explained the game really well to begin with and then getting to y’all actually play it is so helpful. Having frown up playing a lot of different board games, I never realized how much I needed to see a game played to get it because I had much older brothers who taught me by letting me watch and then playing games with me. This is exactly what I needed. I can’t wait to teach my kids how to play (not that I couldn’t wait to teach them, I was just nervous at the seeming complexity of it. I love birds and was pretty excited when I saw this game at a game shop but the price was a bit high at the time, but when my wife found it on sale, she snapped it up after my talking about how interesting it looked).
At 27:11 Dave made a mistake, he kept 3 birds and 3 food tokens. When the rules state that you must either keep 3 birds and 2 food tokens or 2 birds and 3 food tokens etc.
Sure. The other mistake is choosing the first player BEFORE player have drafted thier cards/food. It could be seen how great advantage first player would have planning his first play knowing what to discard, food to pick or card to draw.
39:50 another mistake. You can play another bird only in the same habitat. That one allow you to choose a habitat, but not "send" the other bird to another habitat. You can play either in forest or grasslands, but both should be played at the same habitat.
What an awesome video. Highly agree that the professional touch to this video made the difference for me, I watched the entire video in two sittings. This should be a required watch to learn the game. I started with the IOS version and really didn’t get it until I watched this. Plus we are going to start a game night at work and Wingspan was on my list, I think we will enjoy it.
Always so refreshing to watch this channel and the no-nonsense playthroughs, which can't be said of many gaming channels these days. Wingspan finally became available here in Sweden at an online store, and there was nothing to wait for. Production quality is amazing from eggs to rulebook to you name it. The cards seem to be 100% plastic, and I think that would be the first time I see that in a (non poker-related) board game, and I of course mean that in a good way.
I really appreciate these playthrough videos with discussion afterwards! I'd been eyeballing Wingspan for awhile, and was still hesitant after watching this video, so I decided to not spend the money. However, I've played it myself now and absolutely love it! I use the how-to at the beginning of the video to explain the game to my other friends
“Dicey” comes from “dice,” the plural of “die,” the little spotted cubes of chance used in many games. A mission that was “dicey” to the RAF pilots was fraught with danger, and their safe return was as uncertain as a roll of the dice they often used to pass their time on the ground.
Deborah: I think my strategy here will be to just go for birds that I think are pretty... Lincoln: Oh look at this horned Lark Deborah: Ah, see this is the problem though Lincoln and Deborah together: There're all really pretty @23:14
Some birds in real life are not picky with what type of nest they build, and make different kinds of nests, to suit the location. Those birds, that are in the wingspan game, will typical have a star nest. And this video is a very good explanation of the game.
We watched several videos for Wingspan before playing it including this one. I've played a number of euro-board games but am no expert and my wife is a very casual board gamer, at best. We really enjoyed this game and are looking forward to playing it again.
Hi guys from Galicia, Spain. I like very much your videos, it's really great for my English and you are very nice, it's a pleasure see you playing board games. 😊👍
I just like this crew... they would be welcome at my table any time, and my friends wouldn't mind if I said I was bringing one of them over. Good gamers, the lot of them.
This is my first time watching a playthrough of this superhyped game. I really like the looks of it and it isn't over complicated. Definitely have to give this one a try. Love the interaction of the group on this one also.
About the End of Round goal for the third Round (1:11:27): I've described it as "count the number of NON-EMPTY twig nests". That usually clears up any confusion.
Understand that this is an older play through, but we just purchased this game and we were having some difficulty understanding the game play. Great video of a play through and agree with drappke that this a a well done video. Shout out to Our Family Play's Games (OFPG) since their recommendation got us to this game.
Thanks for this video! I think Lincoln forgot to use the 'when played' ability of his second bird at 39:49. This would have gotten him another bonus card, which might have helped him approach Dave's score.
For some reason I always see Lincoln as Dana Carvey's SNL character "Garth" from Wayne's World. This episode definitely enforced and solidified that idea. "Hey Wayne". "Yes Garth"? "Will you teach us how to play SCHWINGSpan"? Lolz
In this case "cache" sounds like "cash". Cache means "a group of things that are hidden," and entered English in the 1700s. It can also mean cache memory, or "a part of a computer's memory where information is kept so that the computer can find it very quickly." This word is pronounced \CASH\. Cachet has several meanings. It can mean "prestige," "medicine prepared so that it can be swallowed," or "an official seal," the oldest meaning of the word in English, first used in the 1600s. It is pronounced \cash-AY\.
There was a break in the action, when they come back he's saying it correctly. I'm assuming she said "hey, let's fix this before you say it 10 more time incorrectly." He took the tip, just not on camera.
This game is so beautiful and super fun to play. Once you get a good engine going, it’s full steam ahead. I’ve won tremendously and lost catastrophically all based on eggs 😂
This game is probably the most well-balanced game I've ever played. I don't think we've ever played a game where someone either ran away or was completely left behind. Everyone is usually within a few points of each other. I also have the computer version, and it's almost like meditation. Great music, beautiful art, and the "competition" is very easy going. It's not cut-throat frustrating. It's not my favorite game, but it's in the top 5.

Love the post game discussion, particularly Deborah’s honesty to this being an ok game for her. Original ‘Wingspan’ I enjoyed but that Oceania board transforms it so pleasingly.
That bird that moves from row to row is convenient whenever it's able to remain the bird on the right of a row, as it can allow higher rewards continually whenever you target a new row as long as you can plan ahead.
This game is AMAZING. I own it and love playing it EVERY chance that I can. The only mess up was at the start of the game where both Lincoln and Dave kept 3 cards and 3 food instead of what's alloted at the start. Otherwise great run through.
bcmaledragon - yes agreed but it is a bit sad, that taking eggs at the end is getting you more points than trying to build another cool bird because you then don‘t have enough time to fill it with eggs I had rounds where one player took eggs every time in the last round and got like 25 eggs Did you encounter these phenomenon?
@@schoko-fan4370 I have played the game around 7-8 times and everytime except once, the person who scored the most with eggs won the game. In the one exception, the person was second. Unless we are prone to a lot of groupthink, it seems the egg strategy on the last round is necessary to win.
Very late reply, but I can only recommend getting the Oceania expansion. The lay eggs action is less overpowered and makes the game more exciting until the very last round!
Love Deborah on the show..I am curious though how she came to be on it. An affiliation or friendship with one of the regulars? A Geek & Sundry connection perhaps?
She hosted/was the dungeon master for Relics and Rarities on Geek and Sundry, and also played a series regular on True Blood. I believe she was on a couple episodes of Critical Role as well.
I know this is a year old video but I am new to this chanel and this video is a first one that I watched. You are doing an amazing job,I subscribed after 3 minutes into the video and after I watched I bought the game and I love it. Thank you for your hard work and I have a tone of videos on this chanel to watch, its a shame I didn't find it earlier.
I'm pretty sure when Lincoln played the two birds in the grasslands in the same turn that he still gets to trigger the 2nd birds when played power but didn't, if anyone was wondering.
Thank you so much for this, we bought this and struggled to get started but this video gave us the confidence to play. Simple and effective explanations and what you need to be doing etc.
OH MY GOODNESS!! I’m so happy to hear the Snipe Hunt reference from Cheers; well at least that’s the only place I’ve ever heard it and since I’m a huge Dr. Frasier Crane fan this reference made my day. Thank you!
The first 18 minutes of the video are very valuable for beginners. The actual game play is far less valuable--far too high chit chat-to-info ratio, but if you like chit chat, enjoy! But many thanks to the man who, in a very organized way, ran through a "turn" in the first 18 minutes and answered most of the procedural questions you might have!
they dont have the forward momentum and entertaining energy of will wheaton but this is the only other board game show ive come across thats actually watchable (i genuinely mean this as a compliment)
Great show, as always. Bought this for a friend soon after first watching you guys play, and he loves it. Now, I can't be bothered checking every comment (I'm far too lazy), but 'dicey' comes from WWII aviators, who reckoned your chances of surviving a mission were as good as rolling dice.
Just some funny moments, 22:47 Just laughing because he has Killdeer, one of the top 4 cards in the game to get in hand. (there are 170 cards) 25:00 More laughing at not realizing killdeer is good. 28:35 Pie Billed Grebe really great card for early card draw. (nice pickup) but... wheres your food source birds? 57:00 Killdeer gets played in wrong habitat (put it in grasslands) This way you can get resources out of current habitat and save turns! Anyways nicely done by all.
Exactly. That bothered me also. There is a completely different word 'Cachet' which is pronounced the way they did, but it means something completely different (it's a mark or a seal).
This is such a good quality video and tutorial, we have been playing wingspan for a while but really helps to refresh! Have you done similar videos for new expansion packs? Question at 51.38 the bird moves from habitat, but was not ALREADY to the right of bird should it not be before moving and then would you not ‘walk back’ on the row you have moved too to take advantage of extra brown activation powers OR do you go back to original row, this card always confuses me.
At 1:45:28 Dave incorrectly scores his bonus card, since he only has 2 birds that live ONLY in the forest. Great show though, as always, convinced me to pick up the game myself and I am having a blast!
39:46 I think you made a mistake, someone asked on a forum with one of the game's creators and they said *the second bird actually must be played in the same habitat as the house wren*. I made the same mistake too when I first played.
Its in the appendix: “play another bird in the same habitat” , but the iconography is misleading. they should have made it clearer. I only found out online on boardgamearena because it wouldnt let me play the bird in another habitat 😅
I think the way round 4 bonus goals was scored was incorrect. I interpreted the three eggs + the habitat, as how many sets of three per bird in each habitat does the player have. The players scored themselves with 5 goal points but yellow player only had 1 set of 3 Eggs on 1 bird and red had 2 sets. This video helped me learn the game. Reading 12 pages of instructions really makes someone question if it’s worth it. The video made it easier.

Thank you for your hard work and I have a tone of videos on this chanel to watch, its a shame I didn't find it earlier.
Thank you so much. I hope you find more games you might enjoy. -Lincoln
Same with me. Def planning on watching more episodes!
Thanks (as always) for the fun video guys! By the time my copy came in I felt like I had already played it! :)
I'm pretty sure when Lincoln played the two birds in the grasslands in the same turn that he still gets to trigger the 2nd birds when played power but didn't, if anyone was wondering.
which minute is it ?
this guy is the best at explaining how to play games
In the start of the game Dave stays with 3 cards but keeps 3 food, i thought he was suppose to only have 2 left because it has to add up to 5
28:00 - I think they're talking about trilobites, not troglodyte which is a cave dweller. Still love the fun banter though.
Thank you!
An old Boy Scout camping ritual...
Nikki's shirt is so thematic!
The le petit jedi is way cooler though.
Love the bird shirt Nikki! You're so cute
they dont have the forward momentum and entertaining energy of will wheaton but this is the only other board game show ive come across thats actually watchable (i genuinely mean this as a compliment)
Great show, as always. Bought this for a friend soon after first watching you guys play, and he loves it. Now, I can't be bothered checking every comment (I'm far too lazy), but 'dicey' comes from WWII aviators, who reckoned your chances of surviving a mission were as good as rolling dice.
My favorite part of the game? My state’s bird is on the cover! You see them all the time in Oklahoma, the beautiful scissor-tail flycatcher
I cringed every time he said Cash-ay. I did like Deborah's subtle correction.
finally.. my fav bgg group playing this beautiful game. Good Job Team!! :D
I did not see Jessica from True Blood playing a game about birds on my Bingo card.
Saw this game when i bought roll for the galaxy and i can say ill def be buying this next
I heard a lot about this game, but after seeing your play I definitely going to buy this one. It's almost a must have. well done !
Just some funny moments,
22:47 Just laughing because he has Killdeer, one of the top 4 cards in the game to get in hand. (there are 170 cards)
25:00 More laughing at not realizing killdeer is good.
A minor unimportant nitpick, cache is pronounced "cash". :)
Exactly. That bothered me also. There is a completely different word 'Cachet' which is pronounced the way they did, but it means something completely different (it's a mark or a seal).
Those fancy bits need to get to the BGG Store ASAP!
They are coming soon. We were lucky to play with the test set.
Is it possible to put a cube in the "Play a bird" row in a column where a bird has already been placed this turn, when there is already a cube there?
Holy crap havent watched this channel in years, you have the girl from true blood playing awesome!!!
At 1:45:28 Dave incorrectly scores his bonus card, since he only has 2 birds that live ONLY in the forest.
Great show though, as always, convinced me to pick up the game myself and I am having a blast!
Deborah caught him though a minute afterwards :D
Thank you! This is what i needed to understand how to play this!!
Well this was an absolute delight.
Thank you so much for the explanation! 😀
Love the chemistry with you four.
When my group plays , we place the cubes in the environment squares on the left and we activate the powers from left to right. Is that incorrect?
39:46 I think you made a mistake, someone asked on a forum with one of the game's creators and they said *the second bird actually must be played in the same habitat as the house wren*. I made the same mistake too when I first played.
Its in the appendix: “play another bird in the same habitat” , but the iconography is misleading. they should have made it clearer. I only found out online on boardgamearena because it wouldnt let me play the bird in another habitat 😅
Hi there, thank for a great episode. As a birder, I just wanted to say that "GREBE" is pronounced "greeb".
Such a classic!
Interested in picking up some of the GeekUp Bit Bowls, I'm wondering what size is used in the video? the Large 6x6" or the small 4.5x4.5". Cheers
DRailer12 if I had to guess based on the average hand proportions it’d be the 4.5”
What size geek bit bowls are y'all using? I'd love to buy some from the BGG store just having trouble deciding the size.
Catherine Nguyen - seems like they used the smaller ones
