Just a shout out to BGG for doing complete game playthroughs. It takes a lot of effort and time to film and edit a 2+ hour video. It is so helpful (and fun!) to sit back and watch an entire game being played and then discussed by the participants. Very nice work ... can't wait more like this!

Cannot thank you enough for these videos! I don’t know about other people, but sometimes paper rules just aren’t good enough for me to learn a game 😰 And after watching this I think I’ll be able to explain it to my friends so we can play together!
Same here 😭. It looks pretty simple and cute but from the reviews I’ve heard it’s pretty thick and very strategic. Love that aspect of the game and can’t wait to share it with my friends.
I have a degree in history and politics and am now an ICU nurse...and I simply can't understand board game rules instructions haha. I truly don't know why I have this huge Blindspot.
I believe Dave errors at the start. Each player does not start with eight cards. In a 4-player game, the player going first only gets 5 cards, 2nd gets 6, 3rd gets 7, and last gets 8.

how is it when you play with 2, 3 players, the first one always starts with 5 cards in hand?
@AB Its to balance out the game, if you go first you can place your worker anywhere because all the locations are open so you get the best location. If you are going last most of the good locations will be filled up by the time its your turn so you get some extra cards to start with to make it fair. =)

Love the videos! I always feel better making a decisions regarding whether or not to purchase a game after watching your videos. I also have to give a shout out to Dave! It’s amazing that’s he’s so able to learn the rules and then clearly and succinctly teach each game.

@AB I'm sorry to hear that, and you should definitely start a movement! I live very close in Chile and here the board game scene absolutely exploded around 5-6 years ago, now it's incredibly popular. You should definitely look for other fans and start giving games more visibility!

For some reason we couldn't get this game to the table for over a year, without even playing it. We couldnt understand it strangely enough. We played our first game today and it's pretty easy 🤣

When preparing for the summer, you draw 2 cards from the meadow, my question is, does the first drawn card gets replenished immediately to choose from 8 cards, or does it stay empty until you draw your second card?
@@hanajurakova1285 I believe the rules state you take two cards before replenishing the meadow. Although you could introduce house rules if you liked. We have one that says the meadow cannot have more than one of each card, so if a duplicate is pulled when replenishing it is immediately discarded and replaced. Keeps the game a bit more interesting, especially when targeting those Farmer's Wives!
Everybody seemed a bit lost with all those cards and their consequences. :) Seems to be a rather complex game.

That is a LOT of locations! There was so much going on during that game, I think my main groups head would explode. Also not being able to read the cards... not great for us older gamers whose eyes are perhaps not what they once were. Like Nikki I do love the theme and overall look of it though. Another great video guys, thanks for all the effort.
Yeah, I agree-- looks like some nice mechanisms, but tiny text on the cards is a show stopper.

I played with casuals and they pick up on the game super quick. Sure they can't exploit every single mechanism from the get go but everyone is excited to continue playing and learning more.
If you can't read them then you need an optician. Not kidding. I can't read them unless I have my reading glasses on. All good then.

We have played this one twice so far. Our first play felt a bit clunky, with a need to check the rules (and we had some wrong). Our second play went much better once we were familiar with the card typed and events, and the overall flow. I think tableau builders often take a game or two to get into the rhythm. We love it now, and it will see a ton of plays. Also, we used our BGG Store trays, and they worked wonderfully with the game!

For anyone in the US, best contact the publisher to find out when the reprint will be. They sold out very quickly and local game stores most likely ran out in a day or a week from its first publication last month. The correct retail price should only be $60 MSRP if you are lucky enough to find it at that price.
I really enjoy watching you guys play, but I can't help thinking it would be better if everyone was familiar with the game before recording. Dave could still explain the rules for first timers, but there would be fewer mistakes during gameplay.

That's one of my biggest complaints with most board game playthroughs on youtube. I'd like to see what the game would be like if everyone playing it was a bit more seasoned with 2 or 3 games already played as it'd help show a more realistic pace on repeat plays, not just the initial play which would understandably be longer.
Nice video, played this game once at a convention, quite enjoyed it, despite the fairly low player interaction for a worker placement game.

Dave, thanks for teaching me Everdell. I am still not certain about this game. I have debated getting this game but just can pull the trigger. I think I may just need to go to a game day with someone who has it and try it out. However, the game is beautiful

I bought this game yesterday.
I've been wanting to play it since launch, but I usually play with people who don't know english, so I finally was able to pick it up in spanish.
We played 3 games back to back, just with meals in between and we can't wait to play more. It's been a blast!

The post-game discussion was a good example of illustrating "multi-player solitaire", which was my impression from playing. Pretty game, though.
Nice to see the BGG card and bit holder and the bowls. Are those the small or regular bowls, just to have an idea of how much they can hold and take up space

I spotted the bits bowls and card holders during the video and went to the bgg store to check them out.
I like that they have a set of 13 colours but sadly with the exchange rate and shipping its $185 for a set of each. 😮
Are you only allowed to have one legendary critter in your city? Or can you have multiple as long as they are different positions?
Glad watched through the entire 2+ hours of actual gameplay. I still have yet to receive my copy, I’m so excited to play it! Wish I could have the collector’s edition though 😭. But the base game is pretty solid and dense!

The rules says you can only have one unique critter or unique construction in YOUR CITY, not that if one has it nobody else can’t.
I enjoyed the musical references. I am thankful someone else knows “Three Coins in the Fountain.” Also, is Nikki’s shirt a reference to “Shiny Happy People?”
No. It’s in reference to Firefly. The letters are made up of the characters from that show.
Shiny is used in Firefly as an adjective or exclamation, meaning something like "awesome," "beautiful" or "amazing."

I'm definitely doing something wrong 😂 I feel like I can't get enough resources to play cards and build my city when you only have 2-3 workers! 😢
So, if you get a berry (if you have the Shopkeeper) in your city, each time you build a critter, does the same hold true for the judge.. do you get to play his action each time you build a new critter or construction?
Yes. Any Blue Governance card (cards with the scroll logo) can be activated anytime throughout the game. Some have indications though that “May not be used with any other card-playing ability”. For example, if you used the Judge, you cannot activate it together with the Innkeeper or the Crane in your city. But you can definitely activate the Judge and Shopkeeper in the same turn (If you have both in your city).
Are the resources you are using from a deluxe set or able to be purchased? They look way better than the ones you get in the box but i cant seem to find them anywhere to buy? Would love to get them.

Yes. As long as you can perform “some” action (if not all) then you can place a worker in that location.

Just picked up this game and already looking to expand
Watching you guys play this makes me worry that I will never get this game to the table. There is just so much going on, so many options, and so much miniscule text to read that I'm afraid people I play with would become completely lost and confused. Dave and Nikki seemed to be so bamboozled that they just kinda gave up at some points. Doesn't seem like it would make for a great gaming experience with people who are not really dedicated gamers already. Shame =[
I think if i ever teach this im gonna have to become a master at the game first so I can help coach people and suggest possible paths to victory - what kinds of cards to be looking for at what time in the game etc.
