- It’s all mountain passes from here: In this episode, we tackle Mather Pass, Pinchot Pass, and Glen Pass on the John Muir trail. Every pass has its own unique characteristics and challenges, but as promised by other hikers, Glen Pass is a total beast with switchbacks that look like itty bitty goat trails. Andy starts coming to terms with the fact that we’re nearing the end of our adventure. Brittany is momentarily stunned by the size of Glen Pass, but quickly realizes how capable she has become. Together we prepare ourselves for two final hurdles: Forester Pass and Mt. Whitney, the highest points on the John Muir Trail.

We’re Brittany and Andy, and in July 2021, we set off on a 200-mile journey that began in Yosemite National Park and ended at the top of Mt. I enjoyed your JMT series so much! My husband and I hiked it in 2015 as my first backpacking trip and have returned to the Sierra every year since. I especially enjoyed your narration, and you perfectly captured the “quiet” of the final climb up Whitney. Many thoughts were going on in my head at the time, but it felt different than all the days leading up to it.

My wife and I just back from a section hike of the JMT. This was our 2nd backpacking trip together. I sleep awful on the trail, you have any recommendations to sleep better?
Sorry to hear you didnt sleep well. It took us a while to dial in our sleep system. We use a dual system with the NEMO Switchback sleeping pad (cut down to length) + Sea to Summit Ultralight Air Matt and slept like a rock every night. Both of our sleeping bags (quilts) are the Enlightened Equipment Quilts. Hope that helps!
Am I correct that this was done in June 2022 and there is no snow at all al the ascent to Mather Pass?
No our thru-hike was in July of 2021.
