- Hi, fam! It’s been way too long. Last July, we set off to thru-hike the John Muir trail and it turned out to be one of the most transformative experiences of our lives. We’re so excited to finally get to share it with you!
In this first episode, we begin our journey at Happy Isles-nervous and so excited-and make our way through the stunning Yosemite National Park. We stop at Cathedral Lakes, Tuolumne Meadows (for our first resupply), and Lyell Canyon…with a big life update along the way.

We’re Brittany and Andy, and in July 2021, we set off on a 200-mile journey that began in Yosemite National Park and ended at the top of Mt. Whitney, the highest mountain in the contiguous United States. Along the way, we questioned our sanity, made some amazing friends, cried real tears of joy and even started a new chapter in our lives. Come along with us as we document our journey from Bad Hikers to thru-hikers on the John Muir trail!

@@BadHikers thanks for asking. We were going to do the whole thing in 2017, but bailed because of snow. Since then we have done a section pretty much every summer. This year we are going Kearsarge to Taboose Pass, then hopefully finish in 2023. It is taking a while, but we are enjoying the journey. Thanks again for posting your videos.

No way. I gotta work my way up to that. I've just been doing a bunch of day hikes around where I live in Napa. I hope to do a few overnights later in the fall and then try the JMT next spring if I feel like I'm ready by then. If y'all make it up north, I'd love to show you some of my favorite spots around the bay.

Ahhh so exciting! We'll be really interested to hear what the fall weather is like for a fall thru in the Sierra!
You guys completely rock. I hear ya on not rushing it but I still felt like it was impossible to take everything in while we were out there. Even now going back to look at footage, I'm like "holy crap, we actually did that!" Stoked for more episodes!
THANK YOUUUU!!! And YES--looking back on the footage, I can't believe how much we did! I understand why people hike the JMT again and again. We'd start hiking it again today if we could, and I bet it would be a completely different and awesome experience.

We were there July last year as well and holy heck, it was HOT
YES! It was so hot I wasn't entirely sure we were going to make it out of the valley!
@@BadHikers we accidentally started hiking out of the valley at 1 PM. Huge. Mistake. I have issues with heat exhaustion and we had to slow down significantly because the first day hit me so hard. Unfortunately we didn't have time to slow down due to limited time off of work, so we dipped out at red's. Have permits to go back this year and hopefully finish it out! Fingers crossed for less heat lol
@@SonicAndTrippy Oh no! Glad you're safe -- and that you have another chance to tackle it this year! I feel like no one really tells you how quickly your plans on trail go out the window. We ended up on a completely different timeline than we expected, which luckily ended up working out for our Whitney summit. We're rooting for you on this go around! There are so many beautiful things to see after Red's!

If her toes ain't curled at every lake and pass then idk what to say. I watched a few other videos prior to this, but saying yes only gets you to [close to] where you've already been. Open up the trail and stop getting older..
No more getting older! although we have been having fun with our time here!
