  • We will install a KIA ignition lock cylinder protector to make it impossible to ever take the lock cylinder out without destroying the steering column. This is for antitheft. Should keep someone from stealing the vehicle.

Thanks for creating this video. I was going to replace the ignition cylinder but because of the “protector” I couldn’t find the button to push to release the cylinder and it also didn’t look like any ignition cylinder that I had seen, the “protector” was what I was looking at, I was confused but your video showed me what I was looking at.

So what happens if my ignition switch ever has to be replaced after having this done? I guess it's going to be a huge repair bill for the owner to have all the extra steering wheel column replaced. I just scheduled two Kia's to have this done to, but this gives me concerns. I guess better than having the car stolen though.

"Any future replacement of the ignition switch (tumbler and related parts) will require the complete replacement of the ignition cylinder assembly and reinstallation of a new Theft Deterrent Ignition Cylinder Protector to complywith this Customer Satisfaction TSB (CS2311). Any reinstallation of a new Theft Deterrent Ignition Cylinder Protector will be at no cost to you." This is copied from the waver that the customer must sign. It's my understanding that the customer will have to pay for a new column lock, lock cylinder, and ignition switch and KIA will pay for the new cylinder protector.
