great vid! i haven't been able to find consistent, quality mazda vids, so I'm very glad to have found your stuff. Love my 17 mazda3 and looking to learn. I wish more people knew about the skyactiv, what a great platform. can't wait for more.
@charlie729 thanks for the comment, and thanks for your support.
Really nice video. Question: for a 2016 Mazda 6 2.5 NA with 100K miles, there are any software upgrade (PCM or TCM) recommended by Mazda to compensate for wear and mileage? Thanks in advance for your time and reply.
Not that I know of. The only time Mazda comes out with software. Is when it needs to fix a problem or a bug in the previous software. And, unless it is a recall or a campaign. It's not announced. If a Mazda comes in with a shift issue, only then would you find out that there is an update to the TCM for shift concerns. Using Mazda's search engine in MGSS to find a program update is almost impossible. I don't know why. That is just the way they do it.
Thanks so much for the fantastic content you’ve been putting out on the CX-90! I’ve found your videos incredibly helpful as I’m in the process of researching family haulers. The CX-90 PHEV is high on my list, but I recently came across some concerning ratings on Consumer Reports-particularly a 15/100 reliability score and a 1/5 owner satisfaction score. I know you have great expertise with Mazdas, and while I understand there may be limitations to what you can say, I’d value your perspective on this model. Do you think the CX-90 PHEV could present significant mechanical challenges for a long-term owner, or are these concerns overblown?
First I would like to say. Thanks for the comment and thanks for your support. This is my channel. I can say whatever I want. I am not bias to Mazda. I don't even own a Mazda at this time. I am open to every carline. Some are good and some, not so good in my opinion. A for the CX-90. It's way to early to make any judgements on longevity. Like every product ever made. Some people have problems, and some people don't. It's a new platform for Mazda. It's a mechanical marvel and a mechanical nightmare at the same time. Only time will tell.
thanks
You're welcome!
is it true you need to drop the engine to change an alternator on these CX90s?
No. The vehicle does not have an alternator. It uses a DC to DC converter to charge the 12 volt battery from the high voltage system.
do any of these recalls apply to the CX70phev?
No. They do not.
@@ShopForemanGarage TY
I had exactly the same problem. Why didn't you think of the PCM decoder in the fan? That's what was faulty. Replace the fan and the problem is solved.
You're right. The blower motor was the issue. The diagnostic did not point to it. If the customer had left the vehicle for further diagnostics. We would have found the problem.
Some electronics do not play nice together Especially aftermarket
Have been lucky, have a 2012 Mazda3 Skyactive and only had the battery and TPMS light come on. One new battery and one new sensor and problems solved.
Heard the cylinder head cracks cause the way the turbo mounted.than need new motor
I've replaced many cylinder heads due to cracking.

I can not give you what does not belong to me. Check out mazda3revolution.com. search for in vehicle network malfunction. I think there is someone that can get you what you want.
Maybe there's a shorted winding in the coil.
The problems start with all that dirt. Dirt is the killer.
Pretty cool to see a Mazda Shop.
Man if I was the owner of that CX-5 I would be pissed, your removing my parts to diagnose another car, highly unprofessional, get your own parts, my car is not a donner car.
@@Grudzien34 the doner vehicles are owned by World Car Autogroup. They do not belong to anyone.
Aftermarket is not bad. Bad is bad. As a general rule, using the OEM brand for parts is a safe bet. Spark plugs: NGK or Denso Ignition coils: usually Hitachi, but NGK or Denso coils are equally high in quality Sensors: usually a mix of NGK, Denso, Bosch, Hitachi
@fahisaurus most of these top brands are the ones used by automotive manufacturers for their own vehicles.
well, guess what the stealership charges us so much money. So, aftermarket parts are the only way to go for people who don't wanna lose an arm and a leg to replace small stuff.
That's not a 2009 6.

Yes. It seems the manufacturers go out of the way to make it harder to diagnose the vehicles. But, it makes it harder for dealer technicians too.
Michael I had a real real weird experience with my daughter car it’s a 2015 ford explorer ford V 6 technician recommend to replace one spark plug that it was cracked also to replace coil expert technician said plug nest up coil /y replaced one new coil put on #2 position n #2 coil installed on5 position car/problem when I removed air filter intake disconnected MAF sensor broke lock holdown .clip connector fell on ground did not put lock clip when I pushed the connector probably didn’t pushed all in n made a bad electrical connection ,when I started car I heard a weird clank noise I put the gear on drive the noise went louder put it in reverse almost like 10 times louder ,? Sure thing!
Had a 2016 MX-5 aka Miata. Never got down to replacing plugs or coils but had a Air Oil Separator ( fancy oil catch can ) aftermarket I installed. No problems ever. So I think your video is really good showing how those codes can lead you on different path from coils or spark plugs. Love your troubleshooting technique but most of us don't have access to another Mazda vehicle to exchange parts on. BTW I love Mazda MX-5s for the pure joy they give to driving. Working on them is easy too as I do my own oil changes ( Fumoto oil valve ) & change my wheel / tires when the seasons change. The new 2024 MX-5 I bought is more sophisticated then my previous 2016 but I'm not so sure that is a good thing.
Thanks for watching. And thanks for your support. More sophisticated is better or not depending on how you look at it or, depending on what type of work you have to have to do.
reading live data with a scan tool would have shown u misfires to narrow down which coil is giving issues
This is true. The thing that I hate about the IDS is that it is a pain to take it with me on a test drive. It always has problems with the USB cable and lack of communication with the VCM2.
Hi Micheal, well aside from mistaking a 2018 Mazda 6 for an "09 , I really enjoyed this video so I give it 4.5 stars ! A word of advice , just check the decal on the door jam before filming ! And don"t worry about it being too long, we LOVE it 😃❤
Thank you very much. I do make mistakes for sure. But, I love filming and hanging out with you guys. Thanks for the comment.
What caused that plug to crack? Any ideas?
I don't know for sure. They could have been dropped before they were installed. Or, maybe they were installed with a cordless impact. Not sure.
@@ShopForemanGarage Thank you for your reply!
My 2020 CX-5 Signature has the turbo and does not have cylinder deactivation. I guess that means the soils in my vehicle are different from those that have cylinder deactivation. Good to know stuff. I'll be buying my coils at the Mazda dealer when I need them. Good information!
Thank you for sharing this. I will always use Mazda parts in my CX-5 after seeing this!
Glad it was helpful! I feel the same way. I always try to go back with factory parts. But now, I have more of a reason to demand it. Or at least suggest it firmly.
Very informative.
Glad you think so! Thanks for the comment.
I put aftermarket spark plugs to 2016 cz5 40 bucks original for mazda everything looks like original and i have problem with transmission 3 -4 gear have problem to shift and at 5 can't move to 6 when i drive on highway 80 mph rpm at 4 and can't switch to the 6th gear to downgrade rpm to 2.1/2 or 3. When i change spark plugs buying directly from mazda dealer everything comes back but i have to relearning transmission to back to stock.
Well we live and we learn. I would not have believed it if I had not seen it with my own eyes.
@ShopForemanGarage I bought it from eBay fake, but it is looking like original
Do you have aftermarket parts on your Skyactive engine?
noo! :) I tend to veer away from using aftermarket parts in general as its not worth the headache to me :) especially with having the skyactiv Turbo engine in my Mazda. I love your content too btw! Keep up the great work! It is awesome☺
Nope. Never have, never will. It makes no sense given that Mazda OEM parts are very reasonably priced unlike say, BMW and others. And in my experience Mazda parts are top-notch.
2016 Mazda 3 atx installed NGK RUTHENIUM HXLKAR7AHX-S 92274 since about 42k miles, one of the oem plugs had intermittent spark output and once it heated it wouldn't spark. OEM coil packs were good and still running. The new plugs have been great so far and up to 85k miles now.
I hear you there. Thank you so much for your support.
Ive been told that NOW there is no reason to purchase the entire coolant control valve....and that a new thermostat and a couple other parts will remedy this situation...is this true?
@roonbooks3227 that is true. There is a new bulletin.
That’s what happens when you buy a knuckle burrito fron junk yard instead of A NEW knuckle sandwich OEM LOL.
I can't believe I watched the video that's over an hour long and enjoyed it

CX-30 has same cabin air filter at CX 50… I think I changed mine in the same amount of time it took you to change the CX-5’s cabin air filter lol.
Well then. Glad I got the CX5. All the minor maintenance systems are easy access.
Great video man for us technically inclined owners to know what the underlying issue(s) truly are. Thank you! We haven't bought a CX-90 yet but are interested in the PHEV and I'm seeing a lot of them available as dealer buyback/lemons at our used dealerships. What is your opinion (specifically in regards to the PHEV) after all of the recall software updates and repairs have been made? Do you foresee more ongoing issues or have a lot of the major problems been worked out? I'm a Toyota 4Runner owner and have always done my own work on the vehicle for the easy enough DIY stuff, but buying a newer style motor/EV for the family has me a little intimidated. Thank you again for your expertise and detail!
Too early to tell what other problems may arise. I can tell you that there seems to be no easy DIY stuff on these vehicles. It almost seems like Mazda has gone out of their way to make it as complicated as it could be. especially the inline 6. You can not do anything to that engine without pretty much pulling the entire thing out of the vehicle. If you have experience working on BMW and Mercedes, and you love it, then you would love working on this vehicle. It seems like Mazda is following that complicated way of doing things with this vehicle. Only time will tell.
Thank you very much, sir.
Thanks for watching. And thanks for your support.
Dumb video.
Thanks for watching. And thanks for your support.
For me don't buy first or second year model. Do not buy usa or mexico made model.
My 2.5 works for me
I agree about the armrest. Dumb design. Why doesn't the CX-90 have 3rd row release latches, too?
Thanks for the good tips, it wirk for me!
NO, I don"t want to see any reprogramming of new electronics on NEW vehicles it makes for a very boring video INMHO !
What do you think of the new mhev inline6? Is it too complicated to be reliable? I just bought the cx90 340hp inline 6. Just concerned about reliability. Lovin the car so far!
You, my friend, are a trailblazer. This is a very smooth running vehicle. It's too early to tell for sure. I have seen a few of them with higher mileage and no issues. Sometimes being complicated is what makes it reliable. At least, that is the idea. Only time will tell.
How about the 2024 CX-30. Would you like to see me install and program that airbag control module and perform the calibrations? Just let me know.
