Just got a RadioMaster TX16s. Trying to move all of my craft to one radio including my Helis. Thank you for this video.
I seem to be having a weird issue. I've got the programming in correct as far as I can tell. Servo channels respond as they should in both the OpenTx simulator and in the monitor on the radio itself. But physical servos are not responding accordingly. I've tested each channel and servo for proper movement without cyclic mixing. Works fine. But it's almost like the radio isn't sending out the proper PPWM when using CYC1, CYC2, or 3. Could this be a bug or issue with the RadioMaster?
Nevermind previous issue. The problem was the multi-module was automatically remapping the channels for Spektrum TAER. I was programming it in TAER then the radio would swap it around and mess everything up. The fix was simply disabling Channel Remapping. : )
Swash ring limits the stick at the diagonals and ensures that the maximum cyclic input is equal all the way around. Without it more cyclic is possible on diagonals than with pure elevator and aileron inputs because of how elevator and aileron are additive. In the old days the swash ring was an actual ring you put into the cyclic gimbal that would physically prevent the stick from going into the corners but with the advent of computer radios this could be done electronically. If you look at the analog stick on most game controllers you will see that the arpature for the stick is circular for the same reason; to ensure that control input on the diagonals is equal to control input on the horizontal and vertical.
BTW the swash ring is to prevent what I refer to ask puting the sticks into the corners. Instead of the swash moving in a "Square" when you put the sticks in the corner it rounds it out as if you had a cyclic ring on your transmitter.
Oh I see I posted here before and hello again! Thanks for sharing this. I have a working CCPM model in my Taranis X9D+ now thanks to you sir. My 450 Pro was originally a FB heli.
I might put the FB head back on it and get out the GY520 and give this a go. It would never fly as good as a FB heli though.😃

Your setup was very simplified but explaining. A heli without a governor would perform very poorly. At least in idle 1. And you need a couple of mixses to the swashplate to get it fly ok.
Todays fbl systems alows for quite poor setups. A padle heli needs much more tuning of curves and mixes.
+Ullteppet2 as I stated at the beginning of the video, this is by no means a complete setup video for helicopters but one that should give those pilots with experience of setting them up on other radios an idea of how to approach it. Happy flying!

I have dx6i radio is so fatigue now i wanna get taranis qx7 .. i have hélicoptère and fpv quadcopter , is qx7 is good for both or i go back for spektrum dx7 and what reciver can i get for my helicopter ?

Good Ole CCPM mixing! I've used FBL gyros since before I got me Taranis and have never got to use CCPM mixing but I'd like to try it. I still have a FB head.
For FBL one mix with one pitch curve is sufficient on channel 6 with source set to thr?
Is that what you've found to be true ?

Hi, nice video however, didnt help however for the t12 tx which am trying to set up for a fb 450 V2 trex heli. Am trying to get the throttle connected to the three collective servos and not the esc, which is set via the idleup switch to give three power setups !

The way it works for me is here in the video. If the swash mixed are setup properly then the throttle will be mixed into the swash height automatically... Best of luck

I'm hugely impressed Lee, have you been brave enough to put it into practice? Compared to the excitement of spooling up a T-Rex500 and wondering if it will cut your head off, quads are quite tame aren't they?
Not personally. One of my Patreons used this as a starting point and setup his heli. Clever chap! :)
Great video, I am getting back into helix after getting into the drone game. One thing I can't get my head around is, in this video curve two has the points 100, 0 and 100 but this translates to 50% throttle at mid stick? What am I missing?

is there a video, or link, that shows how to setup a helicopter using a openTX and Jumper T16? i have the newer T16 pro and a blade 180 heli. the only wizard in the jumper is for a plane. i really appreciate ANY help!
This is the only video I have on the subject and I had to figure it all out myself.. the process is the same on whatever OpenTX radio yo have... best of luck!

Oh yeah. Been flying helis on my Spektrum DX's for awhile. Thought I would get fancy and bought a radiomaster tx16s. After watching this video I wish I could just return it and get my money back and pay the extra couple hundred dollars for a newer Spektrum Tx. I guess that's why the opentx radios are cheap. The software is free. Spektrum heli setups are much easier. Simple lesson here..... You get what you pay for. But this video will definitely get me on my way to setting up my fly bar helis on the radiomaster.

can you explain to me how there are 2 servos left and right sides of swash that are dedicated to aileron correct? doesn't there need to be 2 channels for aileron maybe over thinking it a bit im not sure.i just no your inputs show 4 channels if i have Thr CH1, Ail CH2, Ele CH3, Rud CH4 i still need to plug in one more servo for the opposite side of swash so now i have 5 channels but your set up shows everything working on 4 channels please help me understand any help would be great thanks

I just came to this video from a link on one of your Jumper t16 videos. How does this relate to the Jumper T16? Does the Jumper T16 come with this software? How do you transfer these settings from pc to radio?
The heli settings are the same in all versions of OpenTX, including the version on the T16/. Best of luck! See the other videos on the T16 for how to use Companion on the PC with it too..

I just wonder tho, if you have had any trouble with the Jumper tranny like some others have had with certain parts of it malfunctioning? Have you heard anything in this respect? I saw one reviewer come up with a rather nasty SD problem that basically bricked his unit not long after he bought it.
Thanks. But seems nobody make a tutorial of setting up T16 with flybar CCPM heli . Many scale heli flyer still playing with CCPM nowadays.
Super weird issue.. I follow your tutorial to the T and I'm running a spektrum module. When I throttle up, I have no control over the heli. Even the taranis screens say that there's no output on any of the channels with the left stick.
That sounds like a problem with the setup then..
How would you do the cyclic mixing with a 4 servo swashplate?

but you did forget one thing throttle hold. it needs to override all your other curves including throttle. when throttle hold is flipped on it doesn’t matter what switch is flipped in normal ,idle up 1 or 2 hold is is on over everything.
Trying to remember how I set it up I think it was switch denoted with a ! To override.also you will have another pitch curve and throttle curve for the hold function.
Please make a video on it. There isn’t enough detail on help setups, I had to figure this out from scratch!
Use a Special Function to override the throttle channel on the throw of a switch to -100, that will override anything as long it's at the bottom of the special function list.

I am old school and still fly NITRO helicopters and use a REV Limiter called the Throttle Jockey Pro (REV MAX) and not exactly sure how to set it up with this radio.
If you know what PWM values it needs then you can get the radio to do whatever it needs... Best of luck

I just purchased a Flysky Nirvana. It doesnt have companion support yet, and there isnt much info anywhere on setting up helis. I cant seem to understand how the mixing setup works from within the nirvana menu :(
After spending 3 hours straight messing around in the settings, I've finally gotten 90% there. All settings seem to finally be working. No companion support so all done on the touch screen nirvana running opentx. Planning to use an irange irx4 plus to bind with my xk k110 and k120, as well as 2 walkera v450d03 helis

@@Painless360 I have got the elevator mixing working great, but for some reason my aileron is not showing any input on the monitor. When I go to Inputs and click edit and move the stick left and right, i can see it on the graph moving. Any idea why its not showing any input on the monitor?
if I have the mixer source as aileron - it shows input on the monitor for aileron channel. When I switch it to CYC1 - it suddenly stops showing any aileron input on the monitor...thoughts?
Hello! i have been on and off about trying to get into flying RC helicopters for about a year. I got a e sky 150 v2 and i finally bound it to an SBUS receiver with my taranis qX7.
but no matter what i do, been through all the opentx settings, mixes and inputs, and i still get no response from the helicopter. ive tried posting to forums and ill continue to until i get this thing flying. but any pointer in the right direction would be helpful from anyone :)
(im using:
taranis qX7 tx
frsky xm+ receiver (pain to bind, but finally got the green light
no module in the tx because im unsure if i need one if the Rx has already bound)
The channel order is crtitcal. Not sure what that model needs but I'd look at that first.. Best of luck
i am a heli pilot and new to open TX. when you chose create new module you alone have the chose of airplane or a quad , i dont have a heli option or is there on and does it matter since you add a swashplate in the program
Most modern helis use flybarless control units so swash mixing isnt needed but if it is - you can add it to an existing model as shown. The support for helis isnt great in OpenTX... best of luck!
@@Painless360 i got one that is flybar the rest are flybarless. i just notice in your video i you had a helicopter model type when selecting new model. all i have is a airplane and glider to select. i dont even have a drone model type

@@Painless360 im on 2.2.3 and have enabled noheli in opentx flased my taranis but when i go to make new model only plane wing and quad are there and when i go to make new model in opentx helli dus come up but wont let me hilight it
If you want heli then you'll need to reflash with noheli unselected. Best of luck!

Helo from Spain i have the TSG8 V2 PLUS CARBON and set it up but When i will go forward it goes to letf and right , alsso when i will go left and riht it goes forward or backwards . iam falying 9 Models but never Helicopter and please can you help me please . Check out the manual for the stabiliser in the model. Sounds like you have two of the controls swapped. Best of luck!

I just got an Align T-REX 450 Pro heli with a fly bar and original gyro system with a Futaba FAsst receiver. I would like to setup on my Radiomaster TX16s but cannot read that protocol. Any ideas on alternate receivers? Also will this video setup work with the 450 heli? Thanks
