It's not the same it used to be, and the corporate art style they adopted is the icing on the cake.

What do you think about programs like Hitman Pro Alert it tells you that you don't need to remove your antivirus and I've tested it Windows defender is still the dominant program.
I've always used Avast about 11 years, yes it has become more of a member hog in some cases but with newer PC and the ability of higher Ram battery CPUs its not that noticeable, as for reading my data I'm not worried about that because I don't do anything but watch videos Facebook, every now and then research something. It would be hard for me to trust Windows Defender maybe one day I'll try it.
This isn't 10 years ago when defender was know as a joke. Defender is quite possibly one of the greatest out there right now. I even got rid of malwarebytes I trust it that much. Ask any tech nerd out there and they will tell you that you don't need any other antivirus and any other av is just wasting resources. But to each their own, if you don't trust it I am not gonna force your hands, but I just want people to know Windows defender is a great choice now.
As a new convert to W10 & a 'modern' laptop, I find this support for Defender a bit confusing because I'd only just (a few nights ago) watched the video of Britec09 explaining the advantages of the free Bitdefender over Windows Defender! I might be a bit of a Luddite about these things ... Am I missing something?
when the windows defender is powerful enough to auto scan and also have a extension for chrome it would be great bc then don't have to pay to make 3 party antivirus extensions for security and also the windows anti virus auto scans every 1 minut in the background so it will detect viruses if it finds it it will auto delete it if it is turned on and also the extension auto scans everytime you download or try go in a site it will scan it if it is safe or not like connection secured? and the other and it will auto block the site if it finds something dangerous

I use windows as a normal user, not as an admin. Thus, when I am asked for a password that I am not expecting, I don't answer the password dialog. I would like to know how vulnerable a normal user is.
i watched a video where they showed malware run with the person logged on as admin, vs one logged on as a standard user. Almost all malware needs admin to do any major changes so as standard it is very limited in what it can do. The only malware a standard user is vulnerable to though is ransomware although it will be "contained" to that person's profile and not infect the wider system. Much easier to remove if only in a person's account: simply delete the account, and create a new one, or just delete the user profile and the ransomware will be gone. Of course, that person will still have lost their files (unless they have backed them up), but at least they won't have to consider for example a clean install.
Well for me Brian I reckon something is better than nothing and I run Eset Smart Security on my machines and the cost really is negligible in comparison of what these ratbags can do to one's system. I don't like the free stuff as it comes with so much bloat and I think quite a low amount of protection. One question to you is why do anti-virus software quarantine suspicious stuff instead of just deleting it?? So you say that the free stuff scans your info and farms it out and a bunch of other things - is this true about paid-for anti-virus software like I have?? Thanks for the heads up on Microsoft Defender being able to be still running with a paid for software on board🙂
Can anyone review or evaluate the quality of ESET Internet Security. I used to have it and it didn't seem to slow PC. Seemed to work well, and also scanned bootups. I gave it up for Defender, but somehow feel less secure.
Many commenters praise paid AV. I use free Bitdefender with Windows Defender. Even before adding BD, I had no problems with WD. BD does now give me warnings about my trying to connect to dodgy sites, which WD doesn't. But how is a John Doe like me know what is really going on? One, maybe separate, thing is that a couple of times I get a severe "warning notice" that my computer is in immediate threat and tells me to call some number. I just cancel it and nothing bad results. What is that all about.

It's generally not a good idea to run two antivirus' at the same time as it will bog your system down. I'd been using Avira for years up until recently on my Windows machines. I got sick of their pop ups for VPN, system speed-up etc. It used to be pretty good, but with all the bloat it was better just using defender nowadays. Although I was thinking of giving Bitdefender a go. While Linux is still prone to virus', the threat is reduced significantly as any virus generally needs root access to change anything on your system. By default, root accounts are disabled in Linux making it much harder to infect a system. Software is also installed from a repository not just any random site like Windows. Yes there's user repo's too,but being open source generally gets picked up pretty quick if there's something dodgey in the repo.

Cyber criminal attack a larger audience which is Windows, if cyber criminals are trying to make money, why would they go after a tiny market share like Linux? its not that Linux can't be infected by ransomware or malware, just not worth the effort with such a small user base.
That is completely incorrect. Cyber criminals are not interested in individual Windows desktops, past laying opportunistic traps for the unsuspecting. Cyber criminals are after data, access, corporate espionage and making political attacks on business and governments, they're targeting Linux and BSD servers all day everyday, because that's where the data and infrastructure is. Anyone who says Linux isn't under constant attack, however they try to justify it, simply does not know what they're talking about or have political reasons for stating otherwise.
Most virus killers behave like malware themselves nowadays. A complete resource hog! Better to stick to Microsoft's own security arrangements as Windows is slow enough as it is.
"...as long as you keep Windows up to date by using Windows Update..." Spread the lie often enough and it becomes the truth. Microsoft's revenue stream depends on the data it retrieves from each individual machine, every time Windows Updates.
So you should never update your computer? No thanks I think I’ll just continue using my computer normally without being on an older version. Who cares if Microsoft gets revenue. They have billions.

I just use Windows Defender along with Malwarebytes. Haven't had any issues.
Very nice combo
@@Britec09 Yeah I use to work others Pc. Now I just work on my own Asrock Deskmini. I see lots of your videos and Carey Holzman Channel too. In his and mine opinion Windows Defender and Malwarebytes is all you may need for security.
Yea u don't need antivirus if u have windows defender but
Windows defender/Windows Security takes hugh ram cpu so that's a big issue
I've never used a Antivirus Protection Software, & never needed it.
When i first went online in 1998 i didn't know about viruses and other nasty stuff and my then PC was over whelmed with malware and viruses. Its only got worse then then.
I use Windows built in software, i used to also use Malwarebytes a long side as i got the premium version with my bank but that went downhill so that got uninstalled pronto 😁 never had an issue using only Windows defender
Same here, I used to have just malwarebytes and windows defender installed. Defender has become so good I don't even use malwarebytes anymore. Just a waste of resources tbh
When I was running Windows on bare metal, I always used ClamWin. But, now, Windows stays in a VM on Linux. Now Defender is caring for the protection if I go on the net with it.
Hi Brian, what do you think about Comodo Antivirus?
Are they still updating that software?
@@Britec09 I have no idea... that is why I asked you. :)
ESET NOD32 - Best AV I use and have resold for the past 15 years.
NOD32 has very low impact on the system
Ok, my question - i have lots of knownledge about how to not get infected compared to other people and i can spot an exe file thats not one i wanted or work around stuff like pishing. Do i still need to install anything better than Windows Defender? I've been using only defender for 5 years and nothing hurt me yet, but im still not sure if i can get hurt like in old times where just entering a link can mess up your PC. And if the anwser is "yes you can get hurt like that", are simple script stoping addons enough?
Im 100% sure i can defend myself in cases that requires my action to be done to be infected or hacked like inputing a password or running an exe file. Do i need any protection from "automated" actions like a legit site that got hacked and now is malicious but noone knows yet?
Using Norton Security Ultra, long time (20+ years) subscriber and automatically, yearly subscription, 10 devices for $139.00, which includes Norton Ultra cleaning suite. Never had a problem, ever.
I am using Norton right now
Thanks for the great info!
I heard best buy geek squad said to someone i know that you do not need antivirus software on laptop i find it very irresponsible because there so many viruses we do not know about even if you have things backed up how do you know that it is not affecting your files
What do you think about programs like Hitman Pro Alert it tells you that you don't need to remove your antivirus and I've tested it Windows defender is still the dominant program.
Good for second opinion
Still I would say that Kaspersky's free AV offering is the best out of other free AVs...
Brian, where would a virus hide on a computer and how could you find it ?. Please make a video on how to find and remove viruses.
Virus removal video number 5001. Searching isn't that hard.
Like I said, I make tutorials on doing things, I said in the disable defender I don't recommend doing it, its for people that do.
when the windows defender is powerful enough to auto scan and also have a extension for chrome it would be great bc then don't have to pay to make 3 party antivirus extensions for security and also the windows anti virus auto scans every 1 minut in the background so it will detect viruses if it finds it it will auto delete it if it is turned on and also the extension auto scans everytime you download or try go in a site it will scan it if it is safe or not like connection secured? and the other and it will auto block the site if it finds something dangerous
its all fun and games until you suddently realise that your microsoft account has been wiped for a few months. can't recover it, because to microsoft "it does not exist". And it took a different hack for me to realise this. I'm absolutely stunned at the moment, still have to wait for 30 days for recovery to even begin.
Just very recently someone I know had a very bad ransomware attack because they could not be bothered to renew or download a free anti virus solution! They have locked everything! I've never been without antivirus
Short answer is always: yes
Windows Defender isnt just an AV
been using avast for years (dont use their crappy one service i just use the antivirus)
also have malwarebytes/hitman pro and all the ones in windows toolbox (run them all one by one every month just to be on the safe side)
Well, i use Norton Security Ultra and it is a really good anti-virus and it works perfectly for me.
So whats lightweight free av which doesn't impact performance while gaming or CAD
ad blocker, nothing else
Isn't Kaspersky residing in Moscow? Under current situation do I need to say more?
I have been using NORTON Antivirus since 2008
Many commenters praise paid AV.
What is that all about.
using norton 360 delux for up to 5 devices here pay 110 dollars yearly subscription
Wow that is expensive, you can get that same deal for $20 a year
@@Britec09 its works great for me here
never been infected since using
@@Britec09 actually payed in dollars 109.99
Most anti virus has a lot of bloat and sales in mind. And they often charge way too much for their services in my opinion.
People gotta stop acting like the world is gonna end everytime they find out the rest of the planets populations opinion differs from their own. windows defender has worked flawlessly for me for 7 years now.
So, since you deleted your previous comment. By your logic, if someone buys a house the construction company owns it because they built it? Before spewing and acting smart how about knowing how things work.

I got Norton Premium for £13ish for 10 devices on Amazon Prime Day. As a paid product it is good has unrestricted VPN and all that but they STILL try to sell you anti-theft etc. Never used to be like that back in the day!

@@Britec09 indeed it is and no data limitations fair play!! How tines have changed Norton used to be the one to avoid now the go to!!
Lol, now a days it's risky no matter what av you have. I recently had Malwarebytes pro and defender and neither warned me I was infected. No matter what you use it can't catch them all. Am evaluating Webroot now!!
Antivirus software only advises you of known malicious code. If any malicious code is new and unknown it will attack you even if you have the best antivirus software. Just be careful and be cautious.
Please review and test huorong internet security with update
Windows defender on this Win 11 machine but generally NOD32
NOD32 is very good
Short answer: yes
Windows Defender + Free Version of Malwarebytes
Nice combo
Same here. Along with Bitdefender anti ransom, Malwarebytes Anti Exploit, and Malwarebytes Browser Guard. Also added Defender Control for a quick turn off if I need to.
what about Zone Alarm anti virus and firewall
Quite happy with Windows Defender but tempted to try Bit Defender. Hearing good things about that. either that or go back to norton
Thanks for the video
You should!
@@Britec09Where can I read and learn about Bitdefender?

Neanderthals were very intelligent lol
I use comodo firewall with avast free after disabling windows defender and thats it
A real good packet inspection firewall

do we worry about the hardware or ditch'em like eggheads i ask :p
I used to be a Symantec/Norton fan, now Broadcom/Norton (formerly Symantec) can get lost! I've never trusted McAfee and I never will! I've always hated free AV software, I'll never install crap like Avast/AVG free! Your better off with Windows Defender! Microsoft has been proven to be more ethical than many paid AV software, let alone any free AV software!
Yes there's user repo's too,but being open source generally gets picked up pretty quick if there's something dodgey in the repo.
no a big no no firewall works well unless you visit alot of porn sites that is the problem with pc users slow to a crawl not saying everyone visit one but it is necessary i spent thousands of dollars on securing my last 2 laptops pcs i am on a brand new laptop now of an HP i can honestly say these antiviruses software money hungry administrators is just hungry for our money i am not going to pay one single dime again they fresh out of luck you download it than you are on your own not downing anyone but be mindful do not renew your purchase antivirus on line they scam also just be careful on how you spend your money do not be dupe have a great Wednesday
right
left :P
You can go left or can go right and i don't recommend you go left but you need to go left and even when you go right it's not that good but you need to go right which I don't recommend so it's up to you to decide. I think it's very easy to decide, or maybe not !!!
avast use to be light now its worse than avg
I agree, bloated
This is why you always perform a custom install when said installer has that option.
Also, in the settings of Avast, there is a option to modify components.
Awesome video

"What systems are infected by ransomware in 2020" We Linux people are sooo marginal that ransom gangstas do not waste their time on us . 🤣
First comment
I am always first :P
Most virus killers behave like malware themselves nowadays. A complete resource hog! Better to stick to Microsoft's own security arrangements as Windows is slow enough as it is.
Anyway, in 2022 Linux is much better than Windows 11. Win11 is a spy tool, bloated and very slow. Tried it and switched to Linux. Best decision ever.
"...as long as you keep Windows up to date by using Windows Update..."
Spread the lie often enough and it becomes the truth.
Microsoft's revenue stream depends on the data it retrieves from each individual machine, every time Windows Updates.
So you should never update your computer? No thanks I think I’ll just continue using my computer normally without being on an older version. Who cares if Microsoft gets revenue. They have billions.
