      Yeah, it probably doesn't save them much money, if any, to produce a smaller screens. However, lower trim levels are often loss leaders. There has to be some sort of penalty for the fact that you didn't spend $50,000+. Otherwise, there would be no motivation to spend more on profitable configurations that are subsidizing your cheapy work truck.
      If you knew anything about running a business and making it profitable, you'd understand scale and cost spreading, as well as loss leading and the necessity of other forms of marketing strategy. Your sub-$30,000 work truck would not exist without them.

    I cannot wait to see it in person. The anticipation is killing me! I currently have a Tacoma but I'm looking for more power, a better transmission, and more safety and tech features. This truck fits that bill very well from what I can see. This is the trim I would more than likely get. The Pro-4X is way too expensive and off-roadey for me. This will do just nicely. I don't know if I'll be able to afford the Premium package but I'll see what my dealer would be willing to do on price.

      The frontier has a frame, 4 wheel disks, metal bed, the most displacement, and a reliable transmission. Can't say the same for the Tacoma. Just becauss they sell well doesn't mean they're the best trucks. Sort of like F150's. I've only heard mightmares from owners

    • @davep2945
      @davep2945 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SupramanTRD Yep, I've told many folks who claim best in class towing or horsepower matters that it doesn't and they always tell me I'm full of it. Until I point out that the Tacoma doesn't lead the mid size class in any category, except sales. Reputation, brand loyalty and mystique matters. Max towing, not so much. At least in the mid size class. The Frontier would be my choice because I find the current one the most comfortable. The Tacoma is a great truck but the most uncomfortable vehicle I've driven in a long time. The Tundra is so much better comfort wise that it's hard to believe Toyota makes them both.

      I've heard it is the same as the previous generation. So the Titan still has a smaller turn radius. My 2017 Crew Cab LB needs 2 Mall parking lots to turn around in. It's lucky those are all empty now days. I've been thinking about putting an Atlas transfer case in so I can do a front dig to get into a parking place.

    Why does the car based Maverick have more payload than a lot of these midsized trucks ?

    • @davep2945
      @davep2945 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      A lot of unibody based SUV's have more payload than many body on frame trucks, even half ton trucks. But most people never bother to look at the actual door sticker for payload capacity and assume the advertised maximum payload for the base model work truck is the payload for all trucks in the lineup. That is never true. Of course, max payload on these SUV's and now, of course, the Maverick change with added options as well. Unibodies are not weaker designs than non-commercial or heavy duty frame based vehicles especially when kept in SUV form with the entire roof structure in place. The unibody design is typically lighter which helps keep payload high. It is also a much stiffer platform that almost always uses independent suspension which allows better ride and handling even with stiffer springs which allows a higher payload as well. The trucks could easily have 2000 pounds of payload capacity as many of their overseas counterparts built on the same platforms do but the ride and handling suffer dramatically and the average consumer in the states wants a comfortable ride more than they want massive payload capacity. In Asia, Australia and Europe the full size truck is all but non-existent so it falls to the mid size crowd to carry the load and so they beef them up over there. I suspect there's also a little fear in corporate offices that if they give their mid size truck a higher payload than their full size then why buy the full size for more money? But the manufacturers don't consider truck and SUV buyers as cross shoppers. And the Maverick is in a different class as well.

    One thing i dont like about all these midsize is you have to get the top of ghe line offroad package to get a rear locker, i have i tacoma sr5 and i needed to spends 5k more for ghe trd off road, the only one who offers it on the lower trims is the ford ranger with the fx4 package which is cheap so thank you ford for that, wish all the others would understand this and make it available in lower trims also cause they really do make it better off road and not everyone can afford a 45k midsize truck

    • @spamfried894
      @spamfried894 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It only makes sense that they would offer a locker with an off-road package. It's not like most buyers take their trucks off-road anyways. So, it's probably not economical or a total waste to offer it across the line.

    • @jd1172

    • @ericksanchez7787

    • @tbm275
      @tbm275 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Heck the ranger you don't even need the FX4 to get it! You can manually option the rear locker.
      I wish other manufacturers would let you do that, I don't need a rough riding lifted truck, but a rear locker can come in handy big time in snow or other slippery conditions.
      If the frontier doesn't allow you to have a locking rear diff and navigation on a king cab model then it just can't compete with the Ranger

    • @christophergodschalk3627
      @christophergodschalk3627 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The 2022 sr5 trail edition will come with a factory lift kit as well as a rear locker, so it should be quite a bit cheaper than the TRD trims.

    How the armrest width? That's the only thing I don't like about mid sized trucks and why I love full size, is that huge space between seats and elbles don't touch for tall folks like me. I like the nissan put the parking brake at floor, and not a pull by hand on next to shifter like Tacoma were it waste valuable space.
