You mentioned total miles that Toyota and others can go for, ie 300 - 400k, and I'd like to toss my old Ford into the list. I had an '85 F250 with the 351 Winsor motor, ran perfect and never had any major engine trouble, no rebuilds ect. The worst problem it ever had was the water pump. Doesn't sound very impressive until you put into perspective that when I sold it, it had 380k miles on it and is still going very strong at around 412k last I heard.
I've wanted a Toyota 4Runner for the longest time. Was panning to buy a new truck ($38K or so) but recently decided to wait with the finance rates being so high and whatnot. By the time I can afford to buy a 4Runner, the '24s will probably all be used and the 25's will be a huge X-factor; same with the Tacomas.
Saving money is the best way to make anything in life affordable. Get a side account, whether it be a savings account, or a money market account like Robinhood... anything you won't be tempted to touch. Now have automatically have this account take $30 from your main bank account every business day (Monday through Friday). Don't even look at it for a year. After a year, you will have $7800. After 3 years you will have over $23k. After 10 years you will have almost $80k. Buying expensive things doesn't require you to be rich, it just requires time and discipline if your short on cash.
I've got a 2007 I bought last year with under 100K miles. Love this truck. The 4.0 is bullet proof if you take care of a few issues. Not fuel efficient at all though.
@Iknowbetter849 I have a 2008 4.0 too. I'm around the same milage. I'm about to turn 220,000mi. Good truck. I have had issues with the crankshaft and camshaft position sensors and some leaks. The sensors were pretty easy fixes.
I’ve had one as a rental for a month now, and I came here to see why more people don’t buy these over the other options. This thing is incredible for its size and price. Such a good truck
I thought about trading in my tacoma SR for a frontier however when i test drove it, I wasnt incredibly sold on it other than the transmission. The steering felt too heavy for me which wasnt the worst but the dealer wouldnt budge on a 2k margin for a SV LWB 4x4 and i went with a TRD sport instead v6 4x4 which i prefer much more for less price of the Nissan
@@ryqarst4690 I agree, the Renault connection has tarnished Nissans once great reputation. HOWEVER, Renault has nothing to do with Nissans larger range of vehicles. i.e.... most of what you get in the USA. They do get involved with the small Euro stuff, which is a shame. Armada (which is the Amazing Nissan Patrol in drag), Titan and Frontier/Navara and developed and engineered in the USA and Japan.
Dude, ive owned about 7 nissans. I gqve my dad 1 still has it almost 400k miles manual trans only the clutch went out at 300k. My son drives my other. Fantastic trucks. 1 time in the last 33 years i was stranded when a battery cable fuse went bad. $120 at the shop and i was back on the road
I had a 93 Nissan hardbody with a manual transmission, four-cylinder engine and 280,000 miles on it. It didn’t burn or leak any oil with the original clutch. Great truck!
The problem is....Nissan has been sold to a European company since then, and they're no longer as reliable as before, when they were a Japanese owned company. The Nissan Maxima used to be highly reliable. Now....all sorts of owners are complaining about how they're experiencing all sorts of problems with their relatively new Nissan Maxima.
I have owned a Maxima, Quest Van and an Infiniti G37, all with variations of the excellent VQ engine. I haven't had a single problem with any of these engines.
@@adriangonz899 The only weak point I know of is the timing chain tensioner. It will start to rattle intermittently, and it might sound like valves or a deeper engine problem. Just a tensioner.
In January I bought a '23 Frontier, brand new. I love it. I was intending on getting a Tacoma, but the only one around was a 2018 for the same price as my new Frontier. I'm very happy with this so far. If it lasts, Nissan will get repeat business from me.
Refreshing to see Scotty praise a non-Toyota product. Love the basic Frontier I bought 6 weeks ago for thousands less than the Taco. My only beef is that the mileage computer is overly optimistic. If it says 24 MPG, it's closer to 22.
It is under optimum condition, I filled my frontier up the other day and got 26 mpg on interstate after, but I know as soon as I get in the city it'll drop way back dowb
@@richsweeney1115 Jesus Christ, mellow out will u u u you. It's just that he tends to praise Toys over all others by a wide margin, although I'll admit that's changing now that Toyota appears to be slipping.
I just bought my 22’ Frontier Pro-4x in satin black and I love it. Never owned a truck before and it’s got 15k miles. I get compliments everywhere I go in this thing I love it. Hope it lasts
I just bought one of these, the SV with Technology package (2wd) for $29k. Only 17k mi. It's incredible. It's a very nice truck, all the bells and whistles. I shopped these for a while and I was scratching my head, thinking, "Why are these so cheap? There has to be something wrong with them." Well, I haven't found what it is yet. I think these are a hidden gem in the truck market right now and they are about to get a lot more popular.
It's all based on the marketing that Toyota is somehow miles above anything else that's been driven into people's minds. It pays to do your own research. Most people won't.
I'm at 40k miles on my 22 SV 4x4 and it's excellent. Smooth and quiet with plenty of power for towing or just fun. With all the other midsize trucks going to digital everything and turbo 4's, it's nice to have an "old school" modern truck.
That's exactly why I bought a Frontier - a V6 engine instead of a Turbo 4. Also, no dreaded auto engine shut-off, push-button shifters, or annoying safety features. Also, the audio and climate control still have dials, unlike many other new vehicles that are all touch screens.
Anyone of you are having those “clunking noises “when coming to a stop specially when it’s cold? Apparently there’s something going on with Nissan with the 9 speed transmission, mine has 42k and sometimes I hear that. Other than that amazing truck
Frontiers have always been great trucks. This generation looks pretty nice too. Solid, simple, capable, reliable. Nobody makes a better N/A V6 than Nissan.
Either way Toyota is ripping people off those trucks should beat everything in every aspect for those prices there for Toyota is crap Nissan is detuned as well to get EPA mileage@@AntilleanConfederation
lol I love Scotty's use of SEO in his videos' descriptions. Also I got the 2022 Frontier and I am in love with it. First new car, first pickup, couldn't be happier. It does all the canyon forest roads here in Utah no problem.
Solid looking truck. Been a sedan owner my whole life. I have been tempted to make the next vehicle a smaller truck for the winters and just for practicality purposes. Great stuff as always Scotty!
i had a pickup when i was 19. 20 years later I decided to get a frontier and It out performs my old full size chevy I had in every way. Much better than the sedans I had been driving the last 20 years and honestly with the way our roads are these days a midsize truck is much more practical than buying a sedan for gas mileage. They have stronger parts that last longer hold up to the roads better and offer much much more utility. Also "Truck Gang!!"
Hi I have a 2022 Chevy Colorado with the v6 it's the work truck I got it new in January of 2023 it has two wheel drive it has cruse control towing and trailer packages it's what I could afford ya it nice
Just picked up a '23 Pro4x brand new. Found a dealer in TX that had a couple on the lot but just got a bunch of '24's in their inventory at the end of the year. Got nearly 5K off MSRP so it cost a couple grand more than the one shown here. Love this truck. Just a beefy, tanky feeling truck that's easy to drive and very comfortable. I'm also a tad over 6' and have plenty of leg and head room.
@@Blue-moon12 So what was your out the door price and did you finance? I'm working with multiple dealerships right now but cannot come to a price point I want.
Just bought a Nissan Frontier. Mine is the 2018 SV. So far I am loving my truck. This is a great family truck. Love my truck. Mine is the previous generation truck but I prefer it as it seems to be as basic as you can get. No thrills and just a nice simple truck. I am going to drive it until the wheels fall off. only 43000 miles on it so if they last as long as I keep hearing then it is going to be a long time before I need another vehicle.
I've been looking at Tacoma...insanely expensive and interest rates crazy on used ones.. they are selling the used Tocoma's just a few thousand less than new ones around here.. I've been test driving, studying Carvana, Carmax etc.. I'll now start looking at Nissan's frontier's.. thanks Scotty.. love your shows!!
In the 1970's and 1980's, you either got the Datsun or the Toyota truck. Similar scenario right now. I think time will prove that the Frontier is a far better/more reliable truck than the "new" Ranger. It's a good deal of money for any of them. Choose carefully.
@@mplslawnguy3389 Had a (then-new) '88 XLT 4WD, 5 spd w/2.9L V6. Was a great truck and pretty well made. Had a Japanese (Mazda?) transmission that was smooth as silk.
I understand Nissan, Ford, Mercedes are now Co-operating on joint development of a shared platform/chassis…if nothing else it ought to help getting development and thus sales prices down across all three? On the same note, as a mechanical engineer I’m no Scotty but experience has taught me that sharing design philosophies and manufacturing methodologies tends to raise the bar positively so we may even get better trucks/pickups/utes/bakkies as they are called depending where you live,
In the 80's I got the Chevy S-10 and did the 350V8 swap. The original V6 and 4 speed stick had 100,000 miles, and probably would have gone another 100K. I did the swap about six months after Hot Rod mag ran the how to article.
I've always preferred Toyotas and my first brand new truck was a '94 4x4 highlux with the 22RE. I currently have a '00 Nissan Frontier V6 4x4 with a standard tranny that I bought from my dad. It has 207k with no major issues and just recently had to change two sensors, which were the only ones that have gone bad. I've kept up the maintenance and expect it'll probably last me awhile longer.
I've had my 22 Pro-x for 17 months And almost 50k miles. I love it. I've had zero issues. I had a gen 2 2014 at 200k miles before this. It's a noticeable upgrade from gen 2.
The only issue I've heard of from others or experienced myself with a Nissan (or old Datsun) truck was gas mileage, although my old 720 king cab with the Z24 4cylinder and stick shift got great MPG. I wish manufacturers would go back to the basics - I don't want my truck to be a luxury vehicle, but a function vehicle: the only option I care about at all is AC.
I just bought a 2018 Frontier. The gas mileage is atrocious and probably really only gets 18 on the highway. But that's charm. The truck is a dinosaur. Electronics are basic and that's what I love about it. It's a truck not a Corvette meets a luxury SuV with a bed. The V6 in it should be reliable being the same engine for 14 years straight.
Used a Bulldog Tuner set for mileage profile. Will still climb the pass on either side of the Eisenhower tunnel at 85mph without having it floored. Installed an AEM high flow DRY air filter, put good quality synthetics everywhere. Added an inexpensive tonneau cover. Get 4 mpg more highway (22mpg) than the factory rating, if I keep my foot out of it. Runs 2-3 mpg higher in the city.
I'm on my 2ND Frontier and they are my favorites trucks by far. I had a 2006 that I traded for a 2022. The 2006 had no issues at all. I upgraded the radiator and had to change the alternator after 11 years but at 16 years old that was the only thing I HAD to do. I added dual exhaust, Flow master 40 series mufflers on both; they sound deep and aggressive.
I’m not sure what Scotty is talking about here. Used truck prices are absolutely insane. You can buy a truck with 50,000 miles on it for the same price as a new one.
I bought a new 2000 Frontier 4x4 sport, and I absolutely loved it. I even kept it for a while when I bought a Titan in 2005. Both trucks were awesome, in my opinion.
My 2011 Pathfinder (frontier) has 150k on it with no major repairs other than AC compressor at 86k. I have a 2021 Titan Pro4x with 27k that has been trouble free. Hope it holds up.
@@Washman-jw3hl Thank you! It is very comfortable. Quiet at speed. Sounds nice....I love a V8! I tow firewood with it. Tow my 5000lb tractor on a dual axle equipment trailer. It does it all well. A comparably equipped TRD would have been $10k more.
Had a 2019 Frontier ugly as hell but easy and cheap to work on and I drove her from Florida to New Hampshire and back and from Fl to Idaho and all over Texas. I sold her off but she carried me through my hard times. Love her.
Bought a 2024 Frontier after watching hours of YT videos like yours. I got a great deal on a loaded Pro-4X. Honda Ridgeline drove great, but handled like my AWD 2014 Subaru Outback and was more $$. The Tacoma drove rough, seemed to be searching for gears during acceleration, and who wants the trans issues that happen now with those. It was no brainer. Frontier for the win!
Just bought a used 2005 Titan for $5000 with 144k mi on it as my first truck to get some stuff done. Even though it's old, i've been very pleased with it! By the look of this thing (very nice actually!) I'm considering running this one out and then getting one of these down the road! Smart move trying to compete with the Tacoma if done right. Competition can only make them better!
I got a 2005 titan with 190k. Engine and transmission are still great. The brakes do wear fast. Also, mine was ungaraged, new england car - I Bought it in 2009 with 24k. 14 years of being beat up, I have hauled crushed stone with it , now I try not to haul stuff. Replaced radiator, the tie rods and Control Bara, blah blah. I always changes oil ... I have my daughter drivin it , her first 😢. Hope it lasts, lol. I am getting a new used truck for me soon
The problem with buying a used vehicle right now is the insane interest rates on said used vehicles. Even with really good credit people are still paying 8, 9, 10, 11 percent for a certified pre-owned vehicle. In contrast, the interest rate on my 2023 Tacoma 4x4 was 2.75%.
There’s a major drop coming for the used market because of dealer overstock on new vehicles. It’s estimated to occur later this fall going into winter. Dealers are getting flooded with new vehicles which are not moving. In turn rates will go down and most likely, if you’re financially stable enough, you’d be able to pay in cash for a used vehicle because they’re going to be marked considerably down.
I hope so. I keep looking at new cars and see some decent deals, but I'm not ready to part with cash I've managed to save, and I'm not willing to sign my life away on an auto loan. That leaves me driving the oldie but goodie. Lol@@jimmycristofoletti7044
If I ever have a question or concern about any vehicle, you are my go to guy!! Love the videos and just wanted to say God bless you brother!! You the man Scotty!!
My husband just bought this truck and it is downright gorgeous. I am so happy he got it and of course he loves his truck. Honestly, I think it’s a way better truck than a Tacoma, and I used to own a Tacoma.
Nissan is been my fav brand from childhood. My father is a Nissan guy, I was raised on Nissan 1998 pickup then Dad bought 2003 Altima, it lived with us upto 2015, got another 2015 altima and now I'm buying this pickup as my first truck.
Honestly, I’m not a fan of the way Toyota has gone with the Tacoma. The new 24 Tacoma is loaded. However for what it’s worth my neighbor has a frontier and it looks great. He uses it a lot. These frontiers today got my attention for being naturally aspirated v6 engines. I will happily pick one of these up and save my money.
My Nissan service lady gave it to me for a loaner for the day, It dose help we've been friends 😊😊, OMG This is an amazing truck!! Love the tight steering and it hugs turns like my 2005 Frontier did! The gas mpgs are sick on cruise control I was getting over 25mpg doing 70mph with cruise and close to 30 mpg doing 65mph. I live on the East Cost
Had a 1988 Nissan pickup 4 cyclinder , I keep it serviced , wasn't happy with it . lot of troubles with it - bought it new . I'm sure they got too be better now. Learned my lesson , never another 4 banger.....I bought a Ford afterwards and loved it , never little for this guy again , But the midsized trucks are bigger now than in 1988 .
That's no joke. I have seen so many old abused Nissan frontiers used as small business food truck haulers, grass cutter service trucks, general scrap yard junk movers.
I bought a new 2023 Nissan Frontier PRO-4X and I am very impressed. I was originally going to buy a TRD OFFROAD but the Toyota dealerships were way too proud of themselves. I think the new frontier is better than the tacoma and with the new tacomas being 4cyl I bet more people will be opting for the frontier. One last thing, I'm glad I didn't turn into a taco fanboy cause I think its funny how they hunt down frontier videos (why are they even watching them) and love to try to convince you that the frontier is crap and the taco is perfect. JMHO
Toyota fan here. New Tacoma is not good in my opinion. I have a low miles 21 TRD off road. But if I was shopping now, I’d go with the frontier over a 23 made in Mexico Tacoma or the new 4 cylinder
Toyota Tacoma i had one for 15 yrs was a great truck 4 L V6 engine and the five-speed automatic transmission. I made a mistake buying a Tacoma off road 2023 They are not what I am use to the transmission is trash! the inside is not high quility. 2025 I will get a pro 4x
They do many cars right… their Frontiers, Titans, Armadas, all the Zs and GTRs, the current gen Murano although dated it has proven to be a very reliable vehicle. Old Maximas too, and Current pathfinder Even the Ariya is a good EV, better than the Toyota/Lexus counterparts
And here I am wanting to get a Nissan Altima somewhere between the years of 2020 to 2023 but there was a thing going on with their transmissions. I heard that there was a recall for it but I cant seem to trust it man.
Just picked up a 2012 pro4x. Ive always wanted one, Im super happy with it so far. I did have to replace the camshaft and crankshaft sensors but its an easy job and one of the few things that can go wrong with the frontiers.
Truly underrated and the best alternative option to get if Tacoma isn't your choice. Used one for work and never had any problem with upset for the poor maintenance the owner was doing to it. And recently rented one for my mountain trip which did a good job handling the snow and didn't drain too much gas. Plus it was 4X2.
after driving F-150's for the past 30+ years, owned 3 of them. i decided to downsized. looked at all the other trucks, Toyota, Ford and even Honda Ridgeline. ended up with the Frontier. biggest selling point is the v6, no turbos. to me i like my trucks simple. automatic with my bad knees. a/c, power windows and mirrors. everything else is extra and more stuff to break. would have love to get a Toyota or Ford, but not keen on the turbos. again that more stuff to break. love the truck. still need to get used to drive something small after all these years. and the price was right for a brand new one. the used Toyotas and Fords cost just as much, if not more. no brainer to get a new one
My 2009 Frontier had 155K miles when a fender bender totaled it. Took my $10k insurance check and bought a 2022 Frontier SV with bed liner and tech, safety. Smoother, quieter, more HP simple V6, stylish and good value. Paid fair $42K List price and no $5K added markup. The rest can go fish.
That is a nice truck! I had an 08 Frontier through college and pharmacy school. It started giving me a couple issues with CAM sensor/general engine problems in 2021, but for 13 years it was a great truck that got me through college and several moves as a young adult! Wish I still had it as a backup vehicle to be honest.
Are you my twin? Lol. Had an 08 Frontier all throughout school as well. Had cam sensor/general engine issue in 2021 too. Just recently bought a 24 ProX.
I have an 08 frontier, 6 cylinder, 6 speed manual with 250k miles..... Runs smooth, AC works very well, and no engine lights. I've only ever changed the (both sides) camshaft position sensors once and a clutch at 200k. Best vehicle I've ever owned and still have it and will till it gives up the ghost!
Had a Nissan pathfinder. It was a tank fantastic put it through some rough times and it never failed. Had 200,000 miles on it basically put on brakes and tires but I gave it away to a friend they had it for another year. Had a lot of fun with that vehicle.
22 SV owner. Bought it at Halloween sale. Last 22 on the lot, got really lucky and paid $1700 "UNDER" sticker. almost unheard of deal at the time. I concur with everything he says, great power, smooth ride, push 23-25mpg on highway depending on trip length. For 37k we love the truck.
Glad to see the used market is making sense cuz the 2023’s on the lot loaded are now stickered for $49,500! Was the cheapest body on frame 4x4 truck in USA forever. I’ve got a 2012 4.0l with 220k and runs great.
While looking at the 2023, the dealer had a 2021 trail boss lt loaded with leather and sunroof for $55k! I would absolutely pay the $6k extra for a full size 1/2 ton pickup with a 6.2l v8 and sunroof vs a Nissan frontier.
The Frontier has always been a great truck. The Toyota nutlickers just can't stand that Nissan makes a truck as good or better for less money. In fact Nissan has made a lot of great cars over the years. They've only had a few real stinkers, mainly with the CVT.
Never even considered a frontier as they looked dowdy, being as you said a compact truck. Moving to this gem, they look great and I'm all for the reliability.
I like the price. 50k for a mid size truck is insane. Nissan made a nice looking, functional truck! I like seeing that something modern is pretty reliable.
Just bought my C.P.O. 2023 Frontier SV 4x4 a few days ago......12.5K miles, Conveience and Premium package; totally loaded. It's been so darn fun and smooth to drive. Only paid 38K for it out the door. A similar equipped Taco or Colorado around my neck of the woods would've ran me easily in the mid 40's........ Great truck and thoroughly impressed so far. Scotty's on the money with this assessment.........
Best vehicle I owned was an 06 Xterra with the 4.0 VQ engine and 6 speed manual. Used and abused that thing and it never asked anything back. Got 15-18 mpg no matter what you do. These frontiers with the 3.8 seem to be carrying the legacy forward. I’d get one of these in a heartbeat if the timing and price is right. If they keep losing value the way they always have, there will be good deals to be had
I had a Kia Sorento 2012 for 11 years now, brought it brand new and still my daily driver. Great SUV, no issue beside the minor tires, oil and brake maintenance. Looking for a truck because I want to boat, might have to look into these Frontiers.
Hey Scotty I bought a 2006 frontier with 30,500 miles and over ten years racked up 183,488 miles! It was still running strong, sold it for $4,200 and bought a 2023 frontier and absolutely love it.
The Frontier is a grossly underrated truck. It's just as dependable and long-lasting as a Tacoma, but without the "Toyota tax" new and used. My father bought a 2003 Frontier used with 77k miles and drove it to 180k miles with not a single mechanical problem. I think this new Frontier is a better-looking truck than the all-new 2024 Tacoma too. The naturally aspirated 3.8L V6 is also much more desirable than Toyota's 2.4L 4cyl turbo. I'm seriously considering a Frontier to replace my aging 2007 GMC Canyon. I want a simple, basic work truck with 2 doors and a 6ft bed. The Frontier seems like a great choice.
What you stated is pretty much true. But also, the resale on Nissan is dog-poo. So if you are going to keep the truck for a long time and don’t care about a resale value because you are not going to flip it in 2 or 3 years, then yes they are an excellent choice and value.
@@jameszeiger8533 Yes that's the one downside to the Frontier. The resale isn't as good as Tacoma's. Though I think it's better than Ranger and Colorado.
I’ve owned a Nissan Pathfinder since 2012 bought it brand new …. It paid off and best thing about never had any issues with it other than normal maintance and some battery corrosion after we moved from AZ to PNW they are great vehicles.
Yeah. But the original "dumb stick" still holds the hood up on my Tacoma, while my Camry's "hydraulics" have failed. So now I get to use a "dumb stick" on the Camry too! 🙂
Bought mine in april. So far i love it. Plenty of power for moderate towing, reasonable mileage, smooth quiet ride. MY ONLY COMPLAINT is the cruise control. You need to gas pedal up any incline or the truck will drop like 4 gears and rev ridiculously high. Gas pedal up any incline and it usually wont drop a single gear.
That's the trouble with these 8 and 9 speed transmissions. To much gear hunting. I have an old school Titan v8 with a 4 speed auto and tow mode. Works perfectly and smooth as butter. I can't even tell it is shifting. I am not a fan of cruise control but when I do use it, it doesn't have what you describe as it kicks it down into 3rd and the only reason I know is because I can see the RPMs rise a little. My gas mileage ain't great but I don't care.
1/ As I understand, CC is not designed for towing. CC is designed for moderate speed, flat terrain, empty bed. 2/ My complaint is the lack of a brake controller. The F is the best truck for towing, but no TBC? not even as an option? what was Nissan thinking? such a simple, low-cost, item ; but will definitely reduce sales. truly, a stupid omission.
I love the Frontier. I've owned a 2001, and a 2007. I currently drive a 2015 Nissan Rogue that I bought used in 2016 with 15K miles already on it. This Rogue currently has 250K miles on it, and though I did have to replace the catalytic converter at 200K because of state mandated emissions standards, I could have continued driving it without a problem, so next year, when this Rogue hits 300K, I'll be getting a Frontier.
I have a 22 frontier for work and a 17 denali with the 6.2 and the frontier drives better but denali is way more comfortable but all in all I’m impressed with the new frontiers
My husband and I are looking at a 1999 Nissan Frontier. I have a 2012 Toyota Camry. My Camry has been good to me, I recently had the racken pinon and steering worked on. No other problems, just regular maintenance.
I had a '09 frontier, it was a good vehicle till 100k miles, then it went down like a rock. Electronics mainly. Converters went out, surprise surprise. Sold it fast as I could after that
Thanks Scotty. I am going to look for loaded used rather then new now. I hate dealing with new care dealers anyway. Last truck I bought was a 96 Chevy Silverado and it has been my daily driver every since. I do all my own work.
I'm 31. I've been a lifelong GM or Toyota guy. I've owned nothing but Silverado/Sierra's or Tacoma's. I just traded in my 21 Silverado 1500 Diesel 4x4 in for a brand new 23 Frontier Pro4X. I paid 51k for an LT Silverado new. The Silverado was bare bones, cloth seats split bench, fanciest thing about it was heated mirrors. It was plagued with Tech issues since new. Screens freezing, wireless android auto constantly disconnecting. 150+ Dollar oil changes. Great fuel mpg, it was easy to get 30mpg, record was nearly 40mpg for 25 miles straight. However, realizing the long-term maintenance cost, plus the high cost of diesel. Learning that at 100k miles I had to have the whole cab lifted, just to inspect the timing belt and oil pump belt. Not to mention the after treatment system guaranteed to malfunction at some point. I hunted around, ever Toyota and GM truck was priced through the roof. So I found the new Frontier. Found one with everything except premium audio, leather and the sunroof. Which are all things I'm not a fan of anyway. MSRP was 46k. Traded my Silverado in, got lucky to make a few grand off of it. Rolled the positive equity, got a great deal. Walk out the door at just over 43k TTT. Shocked, the Frontier is awesome. Meets all my needs, plus can actually go off road since it has a real transfer case, plus the locking rear dif. Rather then the stupid AWD 1spd transfer case GM came up with. Only complaint for the Frontier is that the steering is stiff. I plan to keep it until it blows up.

$45k for a midsized truck isn't exactly "cheap".
@joshsmith121 I think he's only talking about f150's lol
I hate that $40-50k is what’s considered cheap now.
Everything is going up.
Guess unless youre looking and can find a maverick at almost 30 get with the times lol... they aint going down any time soon.

Nissan doesn't have the capacity to produce like Toyota, so they're at their max ability with truck production.
the big problem is that they are nissans

I've had my 05 Frontier since 08. This truck has been absolutely awesome!!! No issues.
In the 1970's and 1980's, you either got the Datsun or the Toyota truck. Similar scenario right now. I think time will prove that the Frontier is a far better/more reliable truck than the "new" Ranger. It's a good deal of money for any of them. Choose carefully.
The Ranger is so ridiculously overpriced. Bring back the 90's Ranger. That was what a small pickup was supposed to be.

I really kinda want one now. They look nice, Nissans always impress with their trucks. Besides the cumins titan lol.
You’re not supposed to have issues on a 2 year old vehicle.
AC and power steering are about the only options I want.
You and two other people. They make more on these loaded trucks.
Runs 2-3 mpg higher in the city.
i had a new 83 720 extra cab with the sd25 diesel and drove that 200000 miles and just replaced the alternator and got 37mpg with a 5 speed.
My mechanic recommemded i not do that, if i didnt want a truck that sounded like a "can of angry bees", lol
Flow masters on a v6 truck? 😂😂😂😂 obnoxious

Just picked up a 2012 pro4x. Ive always wanted one, Im super happy with it so far. I did have to replace the camshaft and crankshaft sensors but its an easy job and one of the few things that can go wrong with the frontiers.
Good choice
My first truck was a 620 Datsun, just bought a ‘23 Frontier Pro 4x New saved on the 23 over the 24. Great truck. I’m very pleased with it so far.
I’ve had my 22 Frontier for almost two years now and it’s a fantastic truck.
Its not even 2024 yet how is that 2 years?
@@JesusIsLord7773
Let say, he bought near the end of 2021…. Then it ‘s almost 2 years.
I bought a 2017 Mustang GT in 2016 - VOODOO MAGIC!! lol @@JesusIsLord7773
Scotty is awesome--I am an optometrist & I know very little about cars--Scotty makes it understandable & entertaining.
Thanks for your endorsement Scotty. I’m thoroughly enjoying my 2023 Pro-4X
I bought the new 2023 Frontier SV with a 6 foot bed. I like it but the turning radius is my biggest complaint. Other than that I’m happy with it.
The turning radius is horrific.... Especially with the LWB.
Still remember when they were called Datsuns.
Scotty i bought the 2022 Nissan frontier sv. And it is hands down the best truck I have ever driven.
Great deal , great choice
They've only had a few real stinkers, mainly with the CVT.
so were just not going to mention that you cant replace part on the trans, you can only replace the whole thing...
Exactly! Dave showed a Titan in his Shorts video!
Never even considered a frontier as they looked dowdy, being as you said a compact truck. Moving to this gem, they look great and I'm all for the reliability.
I like the price. 50k for a mid size truck is insane. Nissan made a nice looking, functional truck! I like seeing that something modern is pretty reliable.
as a nissan guy, this is exciting everything he reviews a nissan/ mitsubishi, I always prefer nissan over toyota especially the trucks
You must know nothing about cars nissan and Mitsubishi make crappy cars

I bought a 2023 Pro 4x with 2200 miles on it. Saved me 6 grand and I absolutely love this truck.
The new FRONTIER is an awesome truck
Best vehicle I owned was an 06 Xterra with the 4.0 VQ engine and 6 speed manual. Used and abused that thing and it never asked anything back. Got 15-18 mpg no matter what you do. These frontiers with the 3.8 seem to be carrying the legacy forward. I’d get one of these in a heartbeat if the timing and price is right. If they keep losing value the way they always have, there will be good deals to be had
Rented a Frontier in Vegas and drove it thru the Mojave National Reserve Lanfair Rd detour and it did a fine job.
Love mine! I test drove both and the Nissan feels smoother snd more modern
Read the opinion of mine above and you just may want to think twice .
The Nissan Frontiers have always been solid, reliable trucks. This one is no different. Thanks Scotty for such a great review. 🙌
I’ve owned a Nissan Pathfinder since 2012 bought it brand new …. It paid off and best thing about never had any issues with it other than normal maintance and some battery corrosion after we moved from AZ to PNW they are great vehicles.
Just bought a off lease with 11k miles. Tacoma does not have power or ride like these and price much less. Drive one and be impressed.
Yeah. But the original "dumb stick" still holds the hood up on my Tacoma, while my Camry's "hydraulics" have failed. So now I get to use a "dumb stick" on the Camry too! 🙂
It not rocket since to buy new ones and switch them out
@@samlung2724😂😂😂
@@samlung2724 Yeah. But my "dumb stick" was free! 🙂🙂🙂
My 23 isn’t bad.
Mine does same thing, 22 year model. People on Facebook groups and forums complain all the time, Nissan still hasn’t fixed it.
I had a 2022 and had the same issue. I now have the 2023 and the issue seems to be fixed.
I know one of those old dogs who is actually young. Gotta have a few of those you know. You are great at this Scotty.
Scotty love your non biased opinion on things man.. keep up the good work!!
My 2004 Frontier is still running strong. Granted, it is a 4 banger with a stick shift. Over 240,000 miles.
I have a 22 frontier for work and a 17 denali with the 6.2 and the frontier drives better but denali is way more comfortable but all in all I’m impressed with the new frontiers
This is an interesting comment. How does the frontier drive better than the Denali?

My husband and I are looking at a 1999 Nissan Frontier. I have a 2012 Toyota Camry. My Camry has been good to me, I recently had the racken pinon and steering worked on. No other problems, just regular maintenance.
I have a 22 SV 4x4 and love it. Not a single issue. I’ll drive it for 10+ years like my Tacoma.
I had a '09 frontier, it was a good vehicle till 100k miles, then it went down like a rock. Electronics mainly. Converters went out, surprise surprise.
Sold it fast as I could after that
Since Toyota is going to stop offering a V-6 in the Tacoma, the Frontier may be a good option.
