    I like the triple whine. That’s the sound of the straight-cut gears of the balance shaft. That’s mechanical music to my ears! I love my 2017 Speedy.

      +rrrider46 The new Yamaha is supposed to be really good too (small tank though). I'm selling my Daytona 675 R and waiting for the MT-10. So it is going to be between Speed Triple, Yamaha or the new Suzuki GSX-S1000.

    For me this Speed is a fun bike you can ride all day in comfort.Its not the lightest or fastest but sometimes less is more.Its balanced and quite 'sensible' compared to the 1000r & KTM it's not intimidating but I wish they would say, 'stuff it lets make a 1400cc triple to compete with the newer nakeds' Now that would be fun , if Ducati can do it with the Diavel, why not?😎 The Rocket is a fat cruiser not a hooligan machine.Nice review Chops 👍🏻

    • @LambChopRides
      @LambChopRides  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hehe I like your thinking Nelly :) 1400 would be epic! But your right with what you said great balanced bike enough power and comfortable to boot. Need to start saving hehe

  • @Coldfin9er
    @Coldfin9er 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Brand new 2016 version has just been released, supposedly up on power and a much better electronics package. Agree with the top end comment, my Speed hits a brick wall around 140 mph (indicated) but the rate it gets there is mental. The torque delivery is addictive. I initially test rode a Street but it didn't impress me at all, jumped on a Speed and immediately loved it!!!

    • @LambChopRides
      @LambChopRides  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes read that on Twitter, been looking at used ones seems 4.5k could get a decent looking 2006.. Tempting! :)

    • @Coldfin9er
      @Coldfin9er 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Lamb Chop Rides You wouldn't be disappointed! They upgraded the brakes from Nissin radials to Brembos (not mono blocks though) on the non R's sometime in '08 so worth keeping that in mind. Apparently the Nissins had a really bad spongy feel. There was a goodwill fix (new pistons) if the owner complained hard enough but not all had the work done.

    • @LambChopRides
      @LambChopRides  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah read that about the 2016, do prefer the new lights be a few owners swapping them over I bet :) yes think street would lack the torque but may try one all the same!

    Looking for a used Speedy now. Used to ride a99SS Dominator. No gear indicator back in the day. But my cohort could tell to ear from the road speed & sound or tach what gear plus whether or not there was room yo throw a down shift. Dying art now I suppose. /s/ Matt’s dad

    Got a 2011 one myself with low pipe, k&n air filter and re mapped.
    Re mapping it makes a difference to the top end and spreads the power a little better.
    Interesting that you prefer this the s1000r but I agree that however much I love my speedy the tuono is better but I didn't trust myself with one after riding one, I'd loose my licence in 5 mins! Lol

    • @LambChopRides
      @LambChopRides  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Great bike David, may get one myself later on I think did love it! I'm the same, Tuono would be a license killer without question :)

    • @cornish_boy6235
      @cornish_boy6235 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Lamb Chop Rides I rode an older tuono but it was still the v4 but it didn't have the the aprc so no rider aids and I couldn't keep the front wheel down!
      You won't regret getting a speed triple, definitely the best bike I've ever owned.

    Lovely edited as ever. Like the new additional driveby's. She's a bit of torque beast. I've had a go on one but she feels like she needs to go on a diet to get her a bit sharper. Try a Street Triple as well. That comes alive! It will be interesting to see what the 2016 Speed will be like and whether it will bring it back up to the mark

    • @LambChopRides
      @LambChopRides  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Jim, yeah it's a little heavy but didn't mind that to much, bet the ones with PVM wheels feel more nimble. Also think it would make an awesome project bike

  • @theincrediblesulk5543
    @theincrediblesulk5543 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Just test rode a 2012 speed absolutely loved it compared to my GSXR. As you mention my only gripe is the weight but I think a Arrow low boy full system knocks about 10kg off bringing it down to S1000r weight

    • @ryangordon3798
      @ryangordon3798 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      A forum i'm on someone weighed the stock cans and link pipe, mirrors, pillion pegs and the rear fender(plate) it was just over 26 lbs of weight dropped off the bike, then add back the weight for a low mount slip on. Still a nice weight drop off on the bike. That would bring the bikes wet weight to somewhere around 450+ lbs, not to bad

    I rode the Speed triple R version a while back when I owned my Street triple and came away preferring the Street due to the fact is was easier to ride and handled a lot nicer, although after buying my R1 I sold the Street because I thought it was underpowered....maybe I should go test a Speed triple again

    • @LambChopRides
      @LambChopRides  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah it's quite heavy but think it would handle nice though if pushed around a little. Want to try one in the dry now.. Defo worth trying one and older ones are quite cheap now :p I've been looking hehe

  • @dan675t6
    @dan675t6 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Great review, spot on! Tested one myself but ended up with it's baby brother, the Street. I'm a short arse and my ST fits a treat unlike the Speed and it's still a total hoon bike to ride. Love the fact it's British and being old school also like the riders bike approach with little tech on board. It can still easily hang out with the bigger bikes, ask MT-09 owners in the local area :)

    • @LambChopRides
      @LambChopRides  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes I do need to try the Street, just dismissed it as the baby brother but a few people have said how good it is now.. May try and ride one along with the 2016 speed shortly. Thanks for the comment matey :)

    • @BirgeCandas
      @BirgeCandas 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Not really. Riding style is up to the rider, but there is a sea of differences in power register and top speed between those two. I have ridden them both.

    I tested a used speed triple back in 08 along side a brand new street triple. Went with the street triple but it had 3km on the clock so it was so crisp and full of torque in comparison. I think they have the same power to weight ratio.

    • @LambChopRides
      @LambChopRides  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +prndownload I do need to try the street triple, seen them go well on track! Need to also try the 2016 speed... perhaps see if triumph will let me spend the day with each 😀

    After watching this and the s1000r review you did I think you are really going to like the aprilia. Its like the love child of these two :). Note the current /last year model tuono is going to have a really hard seat and the new version is going to have a comfy seat. However, you can swap the new seat on last year's model (the 1000cc bike) and get it maybe for much less since there is the new version out now -- the 1100 tuono. there are other differences between the two models but the seat is the first you notice

    • @LambChopRides
      @LambChopRides  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Interesting Windy and you are so right I loved the Tuono :) just about to publish the test ride video!! Absolute weapon of a bike loved every minute of it, just a shame I had to return it haha. I rode the latest version with the comfy seat and crazy power, bloody loved it :)

    • @windyrun7979
      @windyrun7979 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Lamb Chop Rides Really looking forward to the Thunder review :) If you are considering it for purchase, you may want to contact VeeFour since he owns one (the 1000cc version) and is on your side of the atlantic so gets your weather and riding environment; or DukeofDC that owns a 2015 and recently test rode the new 1100. I love the sound of the thing but really don't have many roads nearby to use its power. Maybe one day :) P.S. Actually, VeeFour might even consider selling his since he mentioned once about swapping it for the RSV4 since he is considering more track use. But wait...there's still the MT10 to consider !!

    great vid as always sir , and a real nice review, I've gotta say I've been tempted by the street triple and the speed triple , beautiful bikes and like you said in the vid naked bikes aren't about top speed ,they are more about torque, i used to have a 600 Hornet and I had more fun on that than any other bike I've owned , that's another reason I've been tempted to go Naked again (no pun intended ) lol .
    be lucky

    there not for everyone.. their heavy and somewhat underpowered for the weight... but i own and R.. it bought it cause it fits me if that makes sence ? power that i will use.. comfortable riding under 75.. a bit to much wind after that, and there sexi in a very masculine way and the great build quality, change the cans and the weight goes down a bit but still.. i love it

    The mirrors are so ugly, they would put me right off. Street Triple Rx next? I really want a go on one of those

      Easy fix with some bar end mirrors :) can't help feeling the street won't have enough punch.. Get there's only one way to see!

    I owned a STREET triple for a mere three weeks before it was stolen and i have to say i didn't get what all the fuss was about. Nothing about it was bad but nothing really stood out as exceptional. I replaced it with an FZ1 and all round i preferred that to the Triple. Admittedly the triple had stock cans and the fz1 had Akras; you cant underestimate the importance of a juicy can. Anyway, I now ride a 17 year old vfr800 and I prefer that to both (v4 engine tops everything) so maybe I'm not the best to judge modern, naked bikes eh :)

      The V4 is a nice engine, wish Honda would cut the weight down on the newer VFR800's and give it a little bit more oomph

      Honda V4 are so overweight !! I'll definitely choose that bike if it is around 200kg .
      It just have everything you need, touring , commuting, useable power & best of all a main stand

    I got a Speed Triple 2014 in mat blue, for the money, add the arrows cans with the arrows maping, a bmc filter and irridium spark plugs, set the suspensions to your weight and style (they are very very reactive to settings, good quality suspensions), put some good brembos SC pads, and go with -1 transmission in the front sprocket, get rid of the mirrors, tail tidy...The results (dyno and track tested) after all the modifications are 140 hp (135 stock), 209 kg (214 stock), 0-200 km/h in 9.7 sec, and power wheelies even in 2nd gear. Man I came writing this

    ugliest headlights ever seen. Can't compete anymore with the S1000R, Aprilia Tuono and SuperDuke 1290R.
