    Nice end product. I don't ordinarily watch artificially distressed projects, but knowing your set-building background gave me a context for a practical reason for this process besides personal preference. Thank you for sharing your work.

    This is one of the most well explained/demonstrated videos of wood sign making I have seen. Very clear and very enjoyable to watch. Thank you also for giving all the details of what you used and how you used it. So many videos are "show only" and they don't give the details.

    • @NickFerry

      Thanks - glad to hear you liked it - I’ve had some complain I talk too much but I do like being able to explain what I’m doing and why

    • @GG-uk3dn
      @GG-uk3dn 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@NickFerry Ive seen videos that are "too talkative" and Ive seen videos that dont explain at all. lol. For those of us trying to learn in the hopes of actually making the item ourselves, its all about the details. Much better than "cut it, paint it, seal it" kindof video. My questions are always then "how, with what, what did you use, etc." You answered all of that in the video. You also went straight into the project without filling the first 6 minutes of introduction like a lot do as well. Perfect. I learned a lot in just one video. Thumbs up. :)

    A nice technique video for those that like a rustic look. I'm not into rustic, but the techniques are interesting to watch. Plus, it's Nick Ferry video!! The only thing missing was Le Bucket lid !! ;) lol

    I had a similar idea for distressing signs etc. except I thought about using wire brushes, both hand-held and in a drill. I'll have to try it out and see if I can get results as good as this!

    • @NickFerry
      @NickFerry  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      wire brushes work great too - that's the fun part with these is trying all sorts of unconventional methods

    My first comment of the new year and here goes. I like your vids and your presentation. I also like the sign. It looks great. You are awesome to watch. I've been making things as well.....for about 40 years. Some people can relate to this I'm sure but part of what draws me to maker channels (at least in the beginning) was the DIY aspect in order to not only DIY the project but to do it cheaper than buying or paying to build. Just about every person I watch on YT seems to think they have to have a CNC machine. I was loving this build till the expensive vinyl cutter :( I don't mean to be negative, man. I look at things like this as a way to make some extra money or in some cases for us poor folks any money at all. Sorry but 99% of the people don't have expensive stuff like that. I know it can be hand-lettered but again, most people that try that make a giant mess....lol.
    Look....I'm still a happy subscriber. I'm just getting this off my chest. I still like the vid and the project. Just one day....in the not so distant future.....if I'm still alive....I'd love to find that one channel that resists the urge to zing right past the average person's finances, and just keep it simple and affordable. One day.........................

      I actually was going to show other ways of doing it but decided not to in this video - I can't show every way to do every thing in a video all the time - also can't show every tool a person could use to do each task - people need to take away what they can and make what they make even if tools, techniques and processes are an amalgam from various videos - glad to hear you are enjoying the videos!

      Thank you for the reply. I once texted Adam Amin on ESPN during a game and asked him to please stop talking so much...lol. He was so cool with his response (as were you) that we became friends. Love hearing him call sports now. My point is I spoke from the heart to you and you were kind in your response. I appreciate that.

    Nice job Nick. Probably the best video I've seen on how to make a hand painted sign look authentically worn/weathered. There's million others on youtube, but most look fake to me. Yours truly looks old, Great work. I like the idea of the Sharpie drop shadow, never thought of that!
