    "Today will be your last day", it's so crazy to think how easily you're getting fired in the US, zero protection?

    • @brooksfire9580
      @brooksfire9580 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Yes, there is zero protection from losing a job in the US. Usually you will be paid a few weeks of pay, then rely on unemployment pay - which can be between 5% and 50% of your previous pay (depending on state and salary). That will last 6 months. You have to always be ready to lose a job in the US. I update a piece of paper in my house every month. It details my savings, and what my current company will give me if I get laid off tomorrow (4 weeks pay). I use this to write a date of when I would absolutely need a job again.

      @@WordMadeFlesh777 On the other hand, a manager or company without staff has no worth at all. Most companys learn the hard way that paying minimum wage brings you staff with minimum effort. Suitable for flipping burgers, but most other jobs needs good staff. And even burger flipping can go wrong.
      Having some sort of protection like in almost any other country in the world makes people much more relaxed and in the end the company benefits from this.

    • @info781

      That is the way it should be, if companies can not lay off people they will not hire, that is why Europe has such a limited start up scene and few big tech companies.

      Even though they can easily replace you with someone else, in tech, whenever a job post goes up on LinkedIn, you'll get at least 100 applicants in the span of a couple of hours. While you can't get a job for months and months, sometimes indefinitely, as you compete with tens and sometimes hundreds of other applicants. This is why job security is the most important thing, make sure you get into a job/industry that has good job security and value it over everything else, whether it be salary, vacation, etc.

    I don't think those tech jobs are ever coming back. It's easier for companies to buy 20,000 A.I. processors and build LLMs that can take the place of human employees. I remember Mark Zuckerberg saying he wanted A.I. to replace most of his employees at Meta. I think that goes for most tech companies. Why deal with humans if A.I. can do the job? Software programmers will no longer be needed, for sure, so they should just change careers as soon as possible. At least those who had high salaries were able to build some savings for the lean times ahead. Nvidia's CEO Huang said he wants to replace most human jobs with intelligent machines and investors are all for it. Goodbye, humans, you're no longer needed.
