    What did you mean when you said the g modal scale? I have been a guitarist for 13 years and I am not familiar with that name for a scale. You make great videos. Because of your videos I am thinking of buying a fiddle.

      Hey Mike! I’m referring to a G scale with with some notes flattened that make a tune more bluesy. It basically means it’s not totally G major but not quite G minor. There’s similar examples in Appalachian music when people refer to “Mountain Modal.”

      Modal tuning in banjo, which normally is tuned to an open G or gDGBD but when I started on banjo and would write a minor key song I tuned the banjo to open Gmin or gDG-BD. NOTHING IS PLAYED IN THAT TUNING! They play minor key songs often in MODAL tuning or gDGCD or with a non committed 4th instead of minor 3rd. But that is banjo. I’ll shut up now.
