- The GUIA LIGHTHOUSE
Situated on the peak of Guia Hill - the highest point of Macao Peninsula, Guia Fortress, Chapel and Lighthouse affords sweeping views of the entire Macao Peninsula.
Constructed in 1864, Guia Lighthouse was the earliest modern lighthouse in the Far East and on the Chinese seacoast. It stands on focal height of 108-meter, and light visible for as far as 32-km in clear weather conditions.
The architecture of the lighthouse is of a column structure, with its base diameter measuring 7-meters and reducing to 5-meters at the top, having a total height of 15=meters. The interior of the lighthouse boasts three levels, connected by a spiral staircase that leads to a large light on top of the building.
Beside the lighthouse is the Chapel of our Lady of Guia. The design of its façade comprises two pilasters in addition to a triangular pediment. The main entrance of the chapel likewise features a pediment.
Guia Fortress, along with the Guia chapel and the lighthouse are symbols of Macao's maritime, military and missionary past, and is now part of the UNESCO World Heritage Lists.
