We saw a Chinese opera while we were in Nanning. It really was so lovely. So special to be in china. It really is. They love all cultures of people. They so accepting of you going to their country. So they have to have pictures taken with you. Lol. Laughed so much in China that my face ached and hurt. I have never smiled so much. Love china

This was super satisfying to watch - an almost carbon copy of my 2018 trip to Macau…watching your video I was able to retrace every step of mine. Two weeks into my Hong Kong trip, I decided to extend my trip for a further week in Macau. Checked myself into the Sheraton Hotel on the Cotai strip. A week later, after flying back home to Cape Town, I moved to Rio de Janeiro for almost two years. Miss those days of travelling like a wannabe be “rock star” 😂 my heart just longs “saudade” when watching these videos as every time I’m thinking “I was there”, “I walked there”, “I took a picture (selfie) there”

There is a glaring error, the colonial history of Macao started in 1887. Until then it was only rented, which is why Macau is so small. The flip side proves a point because in the 16th century the Ming Dynasty had the best sailing fleet in the world. And Europe looked like a primitive uncivilized place to the Chinese dynasty at that time.

@@JumpingPlaces It is fine. People aren't historians. The story of Macau is actually very funny. When the Portuguese established colonies in Africa and India, they usually took the ports by naval assaults. But in the case of Macau, they asked for the local government's permission to set up temporary settlements under the pretense of a shipwreck but managed to turn this into a semi-permanent lease. Later the Portuguese in Macau even sent musketeers and gunmen to fight Manchus for the Ming during the last years of the Ming Empire.

@@JumpingPlaces Many Westerners might not know, but China has a rich seafaring history that predates European exploration. By the 15th century, Chinese sailors had already reached Southeast Asia, South Asia, the Middle East, and Africa. They brought Islam to Southeast Asia, liberated serfs in Sri Lanka, and left Chinese descendants in Madagascar. They even created some of the earliest nautical charts that accurately depicted the globe, including the Americas and its native peoples, landscapes, and animals.
However, things changed dramatically in the late 16th century. During the Ming Dynasty's peak, China’s maritime dominance quickly turned inward. The Battle of Luliang, a tough naval conflict between China, Korea, and Japan, is a key part of this history. Global cooling and agricultural issues led to peasant revolts, and the Ming Emperor, fearing threats to his rule, abandoned naval power and forbade ordinary people from sailing.
Then the Portuguese arrived. Initially, they only rented Macau's port for trade. But with the collapse of the Chinese dynasty, colonization began, and other nations rushed in to profit.

Macau often gets compared to Las Vegas due to its gambling revenue dwarfing that of Las Vegas but that is where the similarities end. The food is much better in Macau (search yourself on Michelin Guide) but the shows are much better in Las Vegas. Most casinos in Macau are just baccarat and slots with a few other games shoved into the corner. It just depends on what you're into. The highlights for me when I went were the food, the bunjee jump, and oddly enough the jet boat from HK (cheap and upgrading is 100% worth it). The jet boat trip takes like an hour or so, goes ~60mph (96kph), and you get a lot of beautiful scenery along the way.

China's territory is the third largest in the world. There are many famous scenic spots, There are 56 ethnic groups in China. If you have the opportunity, you can travel to Xinjiang and Tibet. There are no restrictions on foreigners. Only those who have been there will know how sacred the snow-capped mountains and lakes are.

it wasn't a colony in a "traditional" sense. It was rented to the Portuguese, willingly by the Ming dynasty government since they had no use of it. It was leased to Portugal but no end date was specified.

As a long time viewer from HK, I thought you folks would be interested in Macao given the shared Portuguese heritage between Macao and Brazil. Enjoy! :)

As long as your mobile phone SIM card has international roaming enabled, you can directly access social apps in mainland China. But if you use WIFI to upload YT videos, you must use a VPN. Because WIFI has limitations.Normal Western corporate websites are accessible in China, but social apps are restricted for political reasons. The U.S. Congress also wants to ban TIKTOK. Because TK challenges the media hegemony of the United States.

Haha, about the name "Macao", there's a saying that when the Portuguese ask the locals, the locals didn't understand and answer with Cantonese foul
language words (and sounds like "Macao") which means "WTF" in English! 😂😂😂😂

For a Chinese born overseas - in Brazil - it was a bit dismay to find out that Macau native people don't speak Portuguese, unless the own Portuguese who live over there 😞
