Since placing my pre-order I've reached out to SEVERAL people in hopes of finding someone to make me some scales for it but it looks like I'm gonna have to wait until it arrives and send it off. Even though its green I still can't wait to get it. The 940 is my favorite BM hands down!

They're fantastic knives. I went through several other knives from Benchmade, Spyderco and ZT before trying the 940. I worried that the shallow depth of the blade would limit its utility but at least for my usage, that is not the case. The reverse Tanto tip is fantastic as well.
I love my OG 940 but this is awesome. Autos are super convenient, only the Emerson "wave" opener is more quickly deployed but that relies on your pants so if you are wearing so something like light basketball shorts throw it off. I don't need another knife but I am gonna order one haha.
Just got one in the mail today! It was produced literally 3 weeks ago. My first knife over 50 bucks and totally worth the price tag. I'm in FL and cops don't care about knives. You aren't supposed to "conceal carry" an automatic knife here.

God knows I love Benchmade and especially my 940s, but I just can’t seem to get excited for this one. Just not an auto guy because of the need for two handed closing. The thing that draws me to BM is the effortless ability to easily open and close my knife when my other hand is occupied at work thanks to the axis lock. That being said, I’ll most likely still get one because 940. 😂 I’m really hoping for some kind of anniversary edition.🤞
The Benchmade 9400 looks good. The biggest improvement I see is the clear pathway on the blade. I wonder if this lock increases reliability over the Omega springs in the Axis lock. Maybe a non-automatic button lock version would be a good option.
Can’t own autos currently but keeping my fingers crossed that someday they will be legal even just to own, and that they are still making that knife when that happens

Im not a huge fan of autos, but its a 940... so of course I'm going to love it. But why aren't the 940's/9400's or even bugouts for that matter in the custom shop though? Crooked river, Griptillian, and barrage?? That's it?? Why benchmade...why you gotta do me like this??
I have an an original 940, it is my EDC. Honestly, if the only difference is the "auto"....I would just save the money. The Axis lock solves all of your one-handed operational issues. Everything else is a waste of money and time.
Not too often. Usually they don’t offer the discounts as it would compete with the dealer pricing. Most dealers sell for 10-15% less than Benchmade’s online prices.
Can't wait for the Chinese copy! Lol I honestly think I can flick my 940 open faster and harder with the thumb stud then this auto version. Your 19 year version looks brand new compared to one I've had for a year lol
I think it's exciting, but I still prefer a manual 940. IMHO, the auto defeats the purpose of why we love the 940 series...the incredible "feel" and consistency, opening and closing. In fact, I have limited my collecting to only Axis Lock-style knives with thumb-studs (don't like flippers, either). But, my reasoning is different than most. I want my "battery of arms" to be the same no matter what I'm carrying. Not to say I don't have a couple of autos. Personally, if I got another auto, it would be the Mediator. What's next, an auto Bugout? LOL
Fires almost as hard as a $39 Kalashnikov. Ho-hum. Its a 940 with a spring. Has there ever been a bigger "So What"? I will never understand the cult following of the 940, its a horrible slicer, too thick behind the edge. The grind makes an often sharpened blade even worse, getting ever thicker and thicker and doing it quickly as the blade is so narrow. Its not a good piercer. And to add insult to injury, they put the dick clip on it. Think they are trying to tell us something?
The lock on that looks perfect - unobtrusive but still plenty accessible. I also love that they went old school green/purple with it to start!

I think it might be a while. Sales are the only way to justify making aftermarket scale production viable.
