Ok. I read American psycho last year. When I was done I was disgusted and so happy to put it down. But ever since then I think about that stupid book constantly. It is amazing in ways I cannot express. It is HIGH satire. The movie does a great job too. I would recommend Reading American psycho but don't come for me if it pisses you off. 😂

Reading The Stand during the pandemic gave me the same vibe to when your wife had said something about reading Jaws at the beach. Very eerie.

Reading Stoner was very similar to me when I read The Remains of the Day by Ishiguro...once I finished, I immediately started to understand its subtle brilliance.

Hey! I don’t know if you know this or not, but Bret Easton Ellis and Donna Tartt went to Bennington together and were/are? friends. The film of American Psycho is directed by Mary Harron, who directed I Shot Andy Warhol, another good film.

I wonder if you'd like Catcher in the Rye, since you liked The Perks of Being a Wallflower. I haven't read it and I will. I did order both Small Things Like These and Jurassic Park because of you. I did see The Skin of a Lion at the thrift store, but I'm trying to read more popular fiction these days.

I honestly believe George RR Martin will finish the series. He said in November that he will. I choose to believe it because I have to believe it. Currently reading the whole series via audio and it is just spectacular. Even if he doesn’t finish (he will) it’s worth reading. It’s the best prose I’ve ever heard/read.

Out of curiosity I looked up when The Stand was first published to help me remember when I would have read it, and discovered that according to Wikipedia it was reprinted in 1990 with an extra 400 pages restored that had been removed from the original manuscript. It was apparently The Complete & Uncut Edition. So, I need to know which edition you read? I definitely read it before this reprinting- say, around '79/80, not long after reading Salem's Lot. Now I am curious to reread, since it has been a while, and am interested in what was omitted, especially as I was around 15 at the time, and I absolutely loved it then. ❤

Read the Stand this year as well. Unfortunately for me, it wasn’t good. There was zero point to mother Abigail and the Dark Man. There was zero point to the journey that they made to Vegas. There was no battle between good and evil - evil destroyed itself. It’s too bad because I was really enjoying it until the last part.

Love Chuck Palahniuk, but Fight Club is a pretty mediocre novel. The movie (one of my fav's) is a hundred times better. Also, glad to see some legit choices like American Psycho and The Virgin Suicides (with those, they're far better than their respective movie adaptations).

Seriously? High Fidelity? A toss-away airport paperback banged out just to be made into a mediocre John Cusack rom-com - that's somehow in the same poll as American Psycho, Wind-Up Bird, Trainspotting, and Virgin Suicides - the most basic pieces of 90's literature that actually matter, and most people tend to know by now.
