Ah, back when I used to live in the US, one of my favorite things to do on a rainy day was to hang out in Barnes and Noble. The atmosphere there was so cozy, and if I remember correctly, the coffee was decent enough to sip on while I perused books or just relaxed. There's something about the sound of rain outside while you're lost in a good book that's just magical. If you're ever in Santa Rosa, CA, check out the Barnes and Noble located in The Rosenberg Building at 700 4th Street. It's the perfect spot for a rainy day retreat.
The damming arrival of Barnes and Noble caused two of our wonderful, local Copperfield’s Book Stores to fold. Only those who remember know and understand the loss of this lovely little home grown, locally owned book store and the corporate callousness of just another big box B&N.
A man who enjoys grocery shopping, good coffee, is particular about the foods he eats and a bargain shopper.. handsome and soft spoken & enjoys Van life to boot 😊 I'll shut my mouth now 😆
Santa Rosa is one of the nicest places I've lived. There are plenty of farms, ranches, cows out in the fields, vineyards, all nearby. It has great weather and so many convenient stores, restaurants, coffehouses, etc.
Santa Rosa used to be a cute, quiet small town. Unfortunately , it has become one of the larger suburbs of the Bay Area. I can remember the town having farms, chicken ranches, etc.

I am a lifer. 54 years this is a beautiful wonderful place to live, although yes, it is growing and losing some of its charm. It is still one of the prettiest places with so many great incredible sites throughout the county.
And the city is deeply in debt trying to remain the same quaint little place it used to be…. We’ve made that mistake for so long we are desperate to catch back up but will it happen? They have safe parking at the community centers.
That was a beautiful poem ! By the way we lived in Santa Rosa for a year it was a working vacation ! My sister lived there me n the kids loved it ! My husband worked at bodega bay the drive to his hotel was scenic ! They make the best bacon clam chowder ! Me n the kids would hang out at the beach all day then swim in the warm pool at his hotel ! We cried all the way to Austin when we left even our neighbors cried ! lol ! They have the best Chinese food ! I worked at sears it was so much fun my boss was so cool ! Fond memories of Santa Rosa !
It's still fun here, I was born & raised in Sebastopol & now live in Santa Rosa. Great place to raise children & grandchildren . OMG the clam chowder is still the best & crab sandwiches are pricey now but melt in your mouth. Did you stay in the hotel by Doran park... I remember using the pool there, Always a fun time & so much to do. Im so sorry to tell you this, ,but Sear's is shut down the pandemic was the ending ...very sad. Loved Sear's! But good news they re-planning to make it into a Hotel or something crazy like that! Still have great Chinese food too. Hope all is well in Austin, Im guessing Texas? Never been there, hear it's a fun place as well. Have a nice day!
Enjoyed your video. I would like to live like you do for a while. The freedom to roam. My wife and I got married in Santa Rosa at the County Courthouse on April 18, 1969. It was a very different town then. The population was only 50,000. Santa Rosa was a lovely town. I actually stopped in Santa Rosa a number of times while traveling to other destinations beginning in 1961. Back then highway 101 was a 2-lane road passing through town. When coming from San Francisco, we used to put our blinker to turn left going into Los Robles Lodge for lunch. Ice cream for dessert. Los Robles Lodge is long gone. And is the past. Santa Rosa is a nice bigger city now. A little big for us now.
Glad to see you are safe from the worst weather of Southern CA. No sun is too bad but at least no trees are crashing down on you. Stay safe and hang in there.

I really enjoy when you film inside cozy rainy day! Especially inside your van 🚐 (cooking, drinking coffee talking other stuff!) hopefully you will filming longer next rainy day be safe Scott
❤ Good Evening Scott 🤩🌄🌠Those little Battery chargers come in handy! And don't take up alot of space! Very compact to carry in pocket on the go! 👍✌️👌🤞🌞☘️🇺🇸🤲🙏🇺🇲🤩
Hello Scott, Your narrative is always interesting. I don't know how you can figure out so much to talk about so spontaneously. You never seem to use notes or cues. Your so honest and genuine. Do you consider yourself retired? Your breakfast tacos look tasty. Now that you have so many years as a van dweller you have figured out what you have to do to sustain your lifestyle. Coffee is a important element in your lifestyle. I feel that way too. Its not a luxury its part of your culture.
Hello Scott, I think retirement is a gradual change in one's perspective. No longer chasing the dollar is part of it. No longer living to aquire things. No longer climbing the corporate ladder. Just finding your happy place and nesting is one way. I no longer join everything and have figured out what I need to get along with what satisfy the culture of life I choose. At the end of the day we're all working for health care and not game tickets or jewelry. If you can get health care keep your van running have good coffee and love your simple lifescape you have arrived in your happy place. Your an amazing personality a journalist lyricist film producer and social media icon. I hope you can find retirement by perspective until you can walk away from reporting to a job and report to yourself. ❤
Scott, you should come down to San Francisco since you are already so far south. Lots of quiet neighborhoods to park, golden gate park is a lovely place to spend the day, and plenty of local coffees to try! Ive been loving life in a prius down here for a few months. Your videos have been a huge source of inspiration.
@@StaticCamperVanBummer! Darn Chrysler. My girlfriend had a similar experience with her 2015 jeep that blew it's engine at 100k miles, and that bill was too high she had to get rid of the car! I'm sure you've heard this before but I have had good luck with Toyota dependability. I've considered the 1st and 2nd Gen sienna as they can be found on the used market for a great price, if you can stomach their lack of style😂. I bet the thought of parting with your van is tough, since you have such a lovely build.
Another good one, Scott 😊. Even though it was wet, and you were as grouchy as you get (which btw doesn't even register a one on a scale of zero to 10). Having an off day now and then is to be expected in life. Maybe in van life, it's just felt more because your day is more concentrated space wise and driving around in cities, where you'd rather be somewhere else, plus you were low on coffee ☕️ , that's got to account for something 😉. And that soldering kit may not be a bad idea. With all that metal and wiring, you got going on in your van, never know when something is going break or come apart. I figure it's just a matter of time considering your home is not exactly stationary for long stretches at a time. I took a soldering course once, and it was kinda fun learning it. Though, one has to have a steady hand if going to good at it. Stay safe and welded up.
After some of this super rainy weather leaves, come a bit north again. I know you'd be happier in Humboldt Co., a nicer vibe. I'm so glad I live where I do in Southern Oregon but for now the northern Californian coast close to the Oregon border is really nice. Come north and get your "elk fix", great coffee, and nice people.
Hello Scott, I ordered some Ground Works Coffee a 2 lbs. Bag $40 included shipping, I found a 20% off code is why I decided to order some. Hope you find some sun shine or it finds you! See you here soon, take care out there
I like carrots with ranch dressing when I don't have other stuff to snack on, I like chips, gummies and licorice. Toast or just a slice of bread when I have nothing else, not healthy I know. I hope to change my habits this spring.
There is something about the rhythm of the city. I feel it every time I hit that 405 .... glad you're safe up there, and looking forward to your new local coffee adventure. 😺💜
I just now, this morning, stumbled upon your channel, I think your video title caught my eye. I’m born and raised in Santa Rosa. Population when I was born was 20K, now it’s getting close to 200K, that’s probably giving away my age. I’ve never lived anywhere else, but am starting to convert my 2019 transit medium roof van into a no build for travel. I’d like to see more of our beautiful state and country during my golden years. If you have any questions about Santa Rosa just ask me!
Always hard to leave the coast. I camped at Pacific Beach this weekend...sunny and gorgeous...nice change from PT. Went to Fred Meyers in Bremmerton today to buy a sleeping pad like yours....thanks for sharing that affordable comfort. Loving Yellow Bird...thanks! Went to Pegasus on Bainbridge last week and bought Ethiopian Guji which I am so enjoying using a new Aero-Press...thanks for that too ~ If you ever pass through Quillcene traveling the Hood Canal, you may like Katkin Coffee which is a tiny loacal roaster who does some nice lighter roasts. Here's to the sunny days to come! Thank again ~
I'm not really far from you in napa vallejo area I just found your channel love your content I'm a new beginner of vanlife myself seems like a cool lifestyle just getting all my things set up inside just try to build it up as I go. Love learning from your videos as well I'm glad I came across your channel
The park you were at, is one of the better parks….during the day. Yes Raleys is expensive. The Santa Rosa Grocery Outlet is pretty good. I couldn’t figure out where it was you stayed overnight, but there are quieter places to park. There are a lot of areas where it is unsafe to park overnight in Santa Rosa. By the way…I live here, a block from the grocery outlet. Safe journeys.
@@StaticCamperVan it really is a great place. I’m more of a nature person than a city person. I’m not a huge fan of downtown SR but a lot of great places to explore nature around here.
I have four soldering irons. I need one, I buy it, store it away and forget where. Did a big move and found all four. I taped them together into a big mass….Ive stored them away. Wonder how long it will take before I need the fifth one.

Here's a ((Hug)) from Washington. It is raining and 39°. I've had bronchitis for over a week and the coughing has definitely been a workout on my stomach muscles lol Dr says maybe I'll get some nice abs when this is over lol. We all have our ups and downs in van life but looking for the positive is what gets us through 😊❤ The sound of the rain on the floor is relaxing. I've always loved the rain too ❤. Hope your mood brightens up soon 🌞
Since you like small towns, next time you're in the Santa Rosa area, check out the small towns outlying Santa Rosa, like Sebastopol, apple country, Russian River, and others. I don't care much for Santa Rosa either, but the small towns are great.
There might be a small misunderstanding. I spent most of the winter in Santa Rosa. And I really like the area. I do like Sebastopol as it has two of my favorite coffee shops: th-cam.com/video/6lRzDPaW9fA/w-d-xo.htmlsi=SxlgvLOZhfo4126l
Ahh don’t be hard on Santa Rosa! That said, Cloverdale just to the north might be more your kinda place - nice downtown and a grocery outlet. Lovely Lake Sonoma to visit too
Hi scott yeah you sounded a little moody in the beginning of the video but mellowed out later on. Your burger looked good. I'm also glad when you find places to sleep to for the night you seem totally comfortable.
Hi Scott. I hope you eventually find a place to hang out in Santa Rosa that you like. Now and then the bathroom buildings at parks have a power outlet sometimes on the outside wall somewhere. Picnic table areas also sometimes at day use areas. I travel mostly Colorado, New Mexico, Wyoming and Montana.
You picked the wrong time to swing by! The worst of the storm has passed though. If you’re still looking for coffee try a local roaster like Aroma roasters.
We love aroma roasters. it’s been a local favorite for at least 40 years. There’s a little restaurant right across the street Grossman’s. It’s in the hotel right there. It is fantastic.
Go to Hardcore Coffee in Sebastopol. You’ll enjoy it and only about 6-7 miles from Santa Rosa. Do keep exploring! There are awesome Sonoma county regional parks in both Santa Rosa and Sebastopol!
We (California) are having an “atmospheric river” storm for the next few days according to the weather news. Lots of rain, flooding, potential for mud slides, road wash outs, and downed trees. It’s been raining for 20+ hours straight in LA and they said we have 6 hrs more to go. App says a lot more to come. Drive carefully or better yet hunker down and stay dry! Good luck with your energy!
It's odd, the weather was much worse last year when I was here. But this year has been very mild and sunny even though the reporting is saying otherwise
You did good to get out of your comfort zone. That's when serendipitous things happen like meeting friendly people. Sorry you had to go to Whole Foods. The flagship store is here in Austin. They don't do much to promote local brands. The "Keep Austin Wierd" slogan is all about that or was. The sleepy little college town image is long gone. BTW I discovered Yellow Bird through you, and recently scored big on a give away at a local trade show. I got all the flavors including the Plum Reaper Be very careful with that one. 😂😂😂
Hey Scott, I live just South of Santa Rosa in a town Called Petaluma. If you want some fantastic coffee, try Petaluma Coffee and Tea on 2nd Avenue. You will love it!
I hear you about crowded conditions. SR in 1950 had a pop of 18K was 71K when I left there in'75, now 179K in town built for 60k. Loving HBA with total 45k and Eureka 28k :) You're not going to find much clear weather as we move into the new winter.(climate change) but more likely there than here. If you want to become static go west young man. HBA Dave
So funny ..you are one of the few people who have said that about grocery shopping vs shopping in general. Same here. Also quiet is key. I also like rain…and bargains. Grocery Outlet in Fortuna used to be better…maybe it will get better again…used to have more organic stuff. Chips make sense…they help with excess energy when one is static..same reason popcorn in theaters is so popular. You just rinsed your salt lamp.
Whenever I try frying with butter and/or olive oil I struggle to find the right temperature. I'm not a turn-it-on-full-blast type of guy. I can happily simmer stuff on low, but it seems like no matter how low I go I end up with a smoking disaster. So I was surprised you accidentally had the heat up high without a scorching, smoking mess. I solved my problem by using clarified butter.
Most pans have incredibly uneven hot spots which make it impossible to not overheat the fat. My carbon steel pan is so heavy that it spreads the stoves heat evenly across the pan surface making higher heat cooking much easier
Think positive, be positive! Your lunch and dinner looked scrumptious! Don’t forget, coffee, coffee 1st thing in the A.M.! Great video Scott! Thank you for channel. Enjoy!!🇺🇸
Very good video...easy to get into foul mood for us all! Thanks for making the video anyway! Great video but I am anxious for you to replenish your coffee supply..haha!
about fine salt, you're right. It happens with people, too. for some reason they are considered fine but if you look at them they are not fine at all. go figure. love your videos.
You can charge lithium from an electric vehicle charging station...cheap as beans and fast...you just need to make the charging cable...plenty of info online ...easy peasy😊
If you go to industrial areas/buildings, some have plugs in the back of their buildings. You could park there after hours and charge up. Just leave before opening business hours.
Scott. What I like about you is your honesty to yourself. Life is for living and being honesty is not selfish. ❤
I hear leaves drinking rain;
I hear rich leaves on top
Giving the poor beneath
Drop after drop;
This is a sweet noise to hear
These green leaves drinking near.
And when the Sun comes out,
After this Rain shall stop,
A wondrous Light will fill
Each dark, round drop;
I hope the Sun shines bright;
This will be a lovely sight.
Keep rolling, Scott.....

You will like Monday’s vlog.
@@StaticCamperVanGreat! You are so humble and calm person.. Stay warm and cozy
I really like when you film like this so cozy and checking out all the new locations
I wish I was retired but my bills keep me working
I hope things start getting better for you. 🤞
Thanks, as I said in the vlog, things really couldn’t be better
You need to keep driving past San Francisco and see Big Sur abs Monterey. There are beautiful places to stealth camp
Yes, I’ve spent some time there last year. I never stealth camp though
Thanks. Unfortunately my transmission is in such bad shape it’s simply not possible to drive the hills
See you here soon, take care out there
Enjoy your coffee!
Lots and lots of great coffee here
Chips and a good novel on a rainy day. My comfort food.
Eat what you want. Life is to short to worry. Be you. Praying for you. Have a great day.
I love this show!
I hear ya, January can make you moody. But good recovery at the end of the video commenting on how nice the people are.
Thanks. Sonoma is certainly a great place, I’m really enjoying it here. Best wishes on your travels!
Grocery outlet in rohnert park is amazing! Huge selection!
I love Sebastopol !!!
Traffic makes me crabby as well. Lol. Hang in there!
I like how you convince, or should I say remind, yourself you like the rain. LOL
Living more than forty years in a desert makes me enjoy seeing rain
@@StaticCamperVan Water is Life... but sometimes Mother Nature can over do it.
I’m not familiar with Katkin. Thanks for the suggestion, I’ll definitely check them out
I'm not really far from you in napa vallejo area I just found your channel love your content I'm a new beginner of vanlife myself seems like a cool lifestyle just getting all my things set up inside just try to build it up as I go. Love learning from your videos as well I'm glad I came across your channel
Vallejo...fear inspiring
We all have days like that Scott keep the heart ❤up, love the videos x
The park you were at, is one of the better parks….during the day. Yes Raleys is expensive. The Santa Rosa Grocery Outlet is pretty good. I couldn’t figure out where it was you stayed overnight, but there are quieter places to park. There are a lot of areas where it is unsafe to park overnight in Santa Rosa. By the way…I live here, a block from the grocery outlet. Safe journeys.
Rainy days get me like that sometimes.
Wish I saw this video sooner. I was born and raised in Santa Rosa. So many great places to visit around here. I would have loved to show you around!
I have a few more vlogs in the area. Santa Rosa was so great, I stayed all winter
@@StaticCamperVan ok! I’ll have to check it out! If you’re ever in the area again let me know!
Haha
❤ Hamburgers with Fried potatoes are so Good together 😋 especially with peppers, onion, garlic 🧄 parsley, oregano! Yummy 😋 Toast bun lettuce, tomato, pickles ketchup, mustard, mayo! Yummy 😋👍✌️👌🤞🌞☘️🇺🇸🤲🙏🇺🇲🤩🌟🌠😴🌛🌜🥱
I hope you get better very soon

Lovely Lake Sonoma to visit too
Thanks for the suggestions. Judging from your comment you must not have watched this video.
Hi scott yeah you sounded a little moody in the beginning of the video but mellowed out later on. Your burger looked good. I'm also glad when you find places to sleep to for the night you seem totally comfortable.
You are having a challenging day. I do love the rain.
It turned out to be such a great day didn't it
Its always the coffee mate. :)
Very interesting been watching a few of your videos.
Like how you are setup and made it work even in a smaller space.
❤ Good Night Scott 🌠Love watching your Adventures 👍🤲🙏🇺🇲🌟😴
Welcome to Santa Rosa. Hope you enjoy yourself. Stay safe.
Thanks. I bumped into Linus and Snoopy the other day. Nice little surprise
Thank you. Your videos really make me think. Forced retirement has been difficult but your mind set has been very enlightening. Have a wonderful day.
You picked the wrong time to swing by! The worst of the storm has passed though. If you’re still looking for coffee try a local roaster like Aroma roasters.
As I said, the weather has been ideal for me
We love aroma roasters. it’s been a local favorite for at least 40 years. There’s a little restaurant right across the street Grossman’s. It’s in the hotel right there. It is fantastic.
Oh I guess I'm a perma camper😁😁😁😁
But my anxiety from the thing that happened keeps me from driving around 😇
Somehow I don’t think you have a pile of trash surrounding your van
@@StaticCamperVan 😁😁😁😁😁😁 no not at all 😇😇 😇 they probably would not let me park here if I was like that 😉
That’s fair. I hear you on the processed food thing. And fried eggs are very delicious and unbeatable in terms of breakfast.
Go to Hardcore Coffee in Sebastopol. You’ll enjoy it and only about 6-7 miles from Santa Rosa. Do keep exploring! There are awesome Sonoma county regional parks in both Santa Rosa and Sebastopol!
I wanted to tell you the potatoes were sizzling, lol you caught it just in time. Be careful. Great video. I enjoyed the journey.
Hi Scott, be safe, enjoy grocery shopping, enjoy your coffee. Love you videos.❤😊
Good night, and enjoy that coffee 🙋🏼♀️
Love corn tortillas for breakfast. Crispy yes. OMG…you also dislike wind but really like rain. Calming rain is and wind not so much.
What is with this new terminology?
Lovely watching amazing ideas 💡 and coffee must ......person.....pleasure watching 👀 🎉
I couldn’t handle the Plum Reaper! I do really like the Ghost Pepper, but it’s a little too spicy sometimes
Hey Scott, I live just South of Santa Rosa in a town Called Petaluma. If you want some fantastic coffee, try Petaluma Coffee and Tea on 2nd Avenue. You will love it!
Thanks, I’ll try and get over there
Really enjoy your channel. Your lifestyle makes me envious and grateful at the same time. Cheers from a fellow coffee lover.
HBA Dave
Some bad 1/2 and 1/2 ''soured" you on TJ's? Oh snap! Well played sir. Well played indeed.
Purely unintentional, haha!
We got some rain that turned into snow here in Northern Colorado the other day. I like the rain too but not when it freezes! ;) Take care!
I hear ya!
always sunny in Ukiah, lol. grocery outlet in willits is the nicest i've seen
I’ve never been to that Grocery Outlet
Come on over to Sonoma calm ,friendly and peaceful place for your staying thanks hope to see you in town 🤙🏼🖖🏽
Add a little coconut oil to the butter, and it will help prevent scorching.
God bless you brother and be safe!
about fine salt, you're right. It happens with people, too. for some reason they are considered fine but if you look at them they are not fine at all. go figure.
love your videos.
Well look at that Scott has a LOT of fans - you go dude!
