Today I drove out to Centerville Beach at The Lost Coast from Eureka. I need to cut my hair and have been waiting for a dry day to do so. I had hopes that today would be the day. But, the weather changed quickly and I changed up the plan. It wasn’t a total waste of a day. It is never a waste of time being surrounded by all the beauty of The Lost Coast.

My name is Scott and in 2015, I bought a Ram ProMaster City to live in. Even though I didn’t know much about RV’s and campervans, I set about building the van out as a minivan camper. And in April of 2016, I moved into my minivan full time.
Over the years, I’ve learned you don’t need to have a big skill set to build your own campervan. And that living as a minimalist and utilizing solar power can be a less expensive way to live. I’ve also learned that a minivan can be a very comfortable home.
Please follow along as I document my journey.

I like this conversational style video. I enjoy the scenery but then enjoy replaying just for the audio. It’s very comforting! 🙂
I'd say you have a Lotta friends and a full life.respect the way you talk very nice no bad words just like listening to you an meif I was younger I'd give it a go.but 70 great years just to start out now so I make it a part of life just to listen thaks
My words coming out wrong it's been a day so good night
I enjoy how you show the realistic side of living in a van. Life has peaks and valleys, it's how we get through the valleys that makes us stonger
Overall, minus the no hair cut, the cold, and those clouds that looked just as cold as they were, in fact, a very beautiful day. The rain, the wind, and those nice enough cows that let you wander pass in peace actually are what made that little journey memorable. Reminding us it's the journey, sometimes, not the destination that makes a trip worthwhile. Stay warm.
I love that you cut your own hair, Scott. I started doing the same in 1993. Then started a hobbie of cutting friends and family. I became a licensed barber in 2012. Great career! Stay dry, friend.live in my Sienna Camper Full Time.
Do you charge for your services? Could be a pretty good side hustle. I cut my own hair as well; it isn't always straight but I'm not trying to impress anyone. It's a one time a year affair.
@@supercooled yes I do. It is my job and how I make a living. That being said, I do a lot of work for those in need as well if I’m on the road. Right now I’m stable in the way up north.
It’s always sunny when your talking 😊
Wow! That's Heavy sister 😎
I’m female with long hair. If I could have known how to cut my own hair all these years I’d be mega rich! 🤣
Excellent video, great content with breathtaking scenery! Thank you Scott!! Good Luck with the hair cutting!!🇺🇸
Kentucky is green without as many evergreens! It is beautiful as well.
Wind is nice so long as it is not a cold wind. I love a nice warm wind.
Your appreciation of nature's beauty is contagious ❤ Yay for self haircuts!
What a coincidence! I just read an article about a tiny bit of water helping the grinder! They said it helps reduce static which makes grounds stick to the grinder.
There’s been a lot of talk about adding water lately. So far, it certainly seems beneficial
Cool info! Thanks!
I hope this coastline stays this way and doesn't get developed. It's gorgeous and I see why you want to stay around the area!
There’s not a lot of development going on. The area relies heavily on tourism. There’s not a lot of job opportunities so few people move to the area.
I enjoy watching your podcasts.I live in a 30 foot trailer. So we sorta live with the same amenities and challenges.
I love your channel. It's one of my favorites. Thanks for continuing to share your travels w us. ❤
Hey Thanks. I appreciate having you here and like seeing your positive comments!
Since you spooked the cows Scott, we'll be having milkshakes tomorrow!😁🐃🐄
Wow. That overlook is so beautiful. The clouds make it look even more majestic. Just wow. Thank you for enduring the cold and mud. 😊
Dancing between the raindrops is definitely a good Humboldt phrase. Also, I have a good friend who moved from here to Missouri and she said even with the lower winter temps and snow there, she felt the cold here in Humboldt more deeply probably due to the dampness.
Beautiful scenery! 😊
Sometimes I think it’s harder to deal with the damp air versus colder temperatures that have dry air. But then again, warmer is probably better
@StaticCamperVan 🤷♀️ I've never been in super cold, but dry climates so I don't have an opinion, but yes, warmer sounds better to me!
I think you're right, Lisa. Humidity makes the difference. It's amazing how much different 50 degrees feels in the summer night vs 50 degrees in the winter day
Tell ME about humidity. It's the same in hot climates. I've been in hot dry areas of Australia and I'm right as rain (pardon the pun). Add humidity to a hot day and I'm just a lazy lounge lizard under the air conditioner. Sydney is one of Australia's most humid cities in the southern part of the continent.
and the Sierras are very beautiful as well, mostly in the Northern part.
Thanks Scott. I found one if those lighters at Walmart, love it, in van life it's the little things that makes me happy.
You’re welcome. I understand completely
Yes! on the spritz of water on your coffee beans to get a more even grind. When I forget, I get an uneven grind with chunks in it again.
I love all that bright green grass!
Hello Scott, i enjoy your coffee videos walks in the pacific north west and van life narrative. You have been doing the van life for years now. You have become a master of the nomadic lifestyle and motivate others to learn self sufficiency Your not swayed by the pressures to have what sticks and bricks dwellers cling to or the theory that competition with collectors of things is necessary to find happiness. Been following your narrative for years. I always learn something new from you. You live life in the , moment in real time. Your steady and dont get swept away by the issues that come from weather or finding propane, water coffee beans or hot sauce. You stay calm and collected. It transfers to your followers. Im a half and half fan too. Sometimes add flavor with almond cinnamon or vanilla. Do you ever choose hazelnut coffee? Beautiful vistas. Glad your comfortable and gettig fresh air coffee and have tuks.
No, I like the flavor of coffee itself and never drink flavored coffee
Clippers. I used to let my hair and beard grow 3-4 weeks, then trim it down to stubble. Good show!
I have lots of dehydrated food in my van including mushrooms beans corn etc which I use for making soup and adding them to noodles I think dehydrated foods are great for van 🚐 life
You can do it! Go for it Scott! Looks like a beautiful setting!!
I’m still wearing a hat. Maybe tomorrow
How much water do you carry in your van?
The Dodge Promaster is certainly a nice looking van only if Dodge would correct the engine and transmission issues!!
@jamieo8653 lately, I’ve been carrying about 12 gallons of water. I can carry as much as 16 gallons at a time
I never noticed the hanging fence until you pointed it out! The coast lines are always changing. I see that on the east coast of Canada as well.
Thanks for sharing your special place, Scott. It was beautiful and relaxing to see. The slippery areas were a bit disconcerting but overall it was such an enjoyable walk, sounds and scenery that you shared. The rainy day unfortunately changed your initial plans but you turned it into a rainy day adventure- and those can be some of the best days especially when you have a cozy home, hot coffee and comfy soup to enjoy at days's end. Be well and have safe travels.
Can you just imagine the pioneer’s thoughts as they finally reached the Pacific Ocean in locations like this. Wow! I’m never leaving.
Hey, Scott. You're some man! The talk about the rain is so like 🇮🇪 Ireland!! You're looking good in spite of the rain.
Watching while drinking my evening coffee!
really enjoy your show never miss.
Thank you, I appreciate that
I love your wit and humor 😊
Hi from Stanton Michigan. I think that your hair aways looks good so you do a good job in cutting your hair. You have a great day and thank you for who you are.
Thanks Joan
Bless you.
California Milk Advisory Board: “Happy cows come from California.” 😆 🐄
Three cheers for road coffee! And wow that surf was beautiful.
Spend $15 on a good barber. It’s the best feeling and money worth spending!
Just beautiful backgrounds there,Moo
my sister was a hair dresser for 44yrs she just retired I learned a thing or two from here,I cut my own hair to now😃Safe travels🚐
I fill my Staresso up to the “spokes” and that seems to brew up great! ☕️
Yes, that is a really lovely spot. Thanks for taking us along.
So Scott if the Temperature is like 40 & the Wind is about 8,10 mph then it is around 30 degrees!Cold❄️🥶
Ok, that’s cold!
All that COFFEE. is keeping you hyper 😁
Oooo Scott.. “Dance between the rain drops”. Excellent!!
California Happy Cows!! 😁
Hair always looks good 👍✅
Oh I did enjoy being out with you. Going now to get and try RedMill soup mix thanks
Pretty landscape, I'm a California native, Cindy 👋
We noticed how well your white porcelain pot fits perfectly into your sink! The universe was definitely with you when those two came together! :)
Same brand : 15 bean soup
Yummmmmmmmm
But but but… i really wanted to see how the soup turned out…! 😂
(And that place was so so beautiful!)
That hillside property is a slice of Heaven!!
Luv the blueish/grey haze... to catch that in oil painting would be beautiful...
Good thing you found your muff
What a lovely day with the cows & clouds!! I had to laugh when you showed us your frosty fingers cause my fingers are soooo frozen too. Heating this house by candle is gonna take a bunch more candles in these 27 degree nights. I like your hair as is, but easy wash-ability is important, and I don't remember your hair ever looking too short ... all good things in all good time 😺💜
Here to show full support! Enjoyed the video! Looking forward to more
✌🏼
I drive the same van and love it :)
Nice! Mine is getting tired but it’s been a great van
Thanks!
Thanks Jeff!
Been cutting my hair myself forever and use a trimmer to shave ...easy peasy
What beautiful scenery and gorgeous skies! Relaxing!
I too love the PNW. Although where I am located, the Temps have been as low as -5 and I kinda wish I could escape it for a bit.😬
I love that whole coastline...so beautiful. I was up there last year and fell in love with Mendocino. I also cut my own hair but there's not much to cut. I purposely keep it short. I use my van's side mirrors to cut my hair and trim my beard. I drape a shemagh around my neck and quite often have passersby, wanting me to cut their hair. 😂
You can start a side business!
Thanks for another great video
Thanks for watching!
Always!!
Just what I needed this evening! 🙂 thanks!
Yes you do make me chuckle sometimes. 😊
We have been getting your left over rain 🌧️☔ here in the UK Scott, it's been non stop for weeks, it's been nice and sunny the last few days, so I'm getting plenty of solar.. my hair is going down my back now 😂lol, I seriously need to cut it asap.. thanks for the nice long video Scott very enjoyable and entertaining. Stay safe and happy buddy 💯🤟🚐🚐🌧️🤟🙏✌️😊📽️
A nice Hot Soup with a Burrito, hot cup Coffee ☕ will warm you up 🔥
Always like to watch your videos keep on the good work,
Thanks Terry
You've got to try this recipe if you can tolerate the ingredients: 1 egg, 1 mashed avocado, 1 c. freshly grated parmesan, a bit of salt, everything bagel seasoning on the second side. Mash together and pan fry slow, flip to finish cooking. So good.
... watching again, and remembering that song by Crosby Stills Nash & Young ... "Almost cut my hair - happened just the other day - gettin' kinda long ... " ... have an ez nite, Scott
Hello Scott, I like how you take your viewers on a nature tour and share with all us New England Snowbird's🙂WE live vicariously through you ! Being such a coffee connoisseur I'm curious how you sleep at night🙃and have you considered being a barista ? What year is your van? When I first foound your vlogs, I thought by the interior that you were an undercover agent with all the tech accessories!☺
No, I wouldn’t want to be a barista, coffee is my hobby. My van is a 2015.
It’s beautiful. I had no idea Eureka was that pretty. The pastures and the coast.
I myself am trying to make a trip to Redwood National Park which is a 6.5 hr drive for me from Portland. 6.5 is a bit longer than I like to drive in a day but I really want to go for a few nights. I have to take my cat. Seems there were a lot of cat friendly motels and that’s exactly what I need.
Wow , just a gorgeous place . I can’t believe I’ve never been there . I need to take drive up there . Great video Scott . Thank you !
3:39 so ends up it was a squall after all! 🤣
Believe me Minnesota is brrrrrr 😂
Wow! Beautiful view of the ocean there!!! Thanks for sharing! 🤩
I envy your life❤
Nice video
Thanks Alvin
Boy it must have gotten cold while you were making coffee, I could see your breath!
Haha, yeah I wasn’t sure if the camera was going to pick that up. It wasn’t cold inside the van so I was confused at first
Great Vid
❤ Good Evening Scott 🏙️🌌 Beautiful Grazing on the Beach and Plaines of Cattle! There walking away from you ,maybe they think your going to shoot them for Dinner! There cautious 😯 Does look windy and Cold 🥶 Maybe you get a little Snow Flurries in the Mountains ❄️ Love watching your Adventures and stay warm 👍✌️🤞👌🙏🙌🇺🇸✝️💜🌟🤩
I do enjoy a good hamburger!
Your hair looks good either way Scott,😊 njoy the coffee x
When I play your videos, my husband always says “it’s the coffee guy” 😂 We enjoy listening to your videos. My husband said that’s a “drizzle.”
Great weather. Hopefully you can check out Brookings, Oregon (sunny like Sequim,WA). Has beautiful campground & beach area. Enjoy the sun.
Yes, I have a couple of vlogs from Brookings. But I don’t spend much time there
There's possibility of snow coming next week up here PNW ... 😮
Eek! I hope it isn’t too bad.
@@StaticCamperVan I hope not either.. 🫣😒
Im up in Coeur d’Alene, we’re waiting on a possible foot of snow. Only been her 14 months but the handle clearing the roads very quickly. Live that. Snow is really not slowing it down up here. Dropping down below -0 in a few days. 😊⛄️
@@VinnieVan I'm here in Longview WA area and it's expected snow next week and really cold weather.. Burrrrr...
Snow in the ochocos
I very much enjoyed seeing the area. I really like the content you put out and by the way the weather looks like north Wales at the height of summer.
Scott please start carrying a backpack with essentials when on longer hikes
I stopped taking long hikes a couple of years ago. I like staying close to my van
Beautiful area, hope I get to see it someday.
Chinese 5 spice and whole cloves in my beans before grinding 🤠☕️
That’s a spicy cup of coffee
i am taking a few days off and visiting with my son in ohio. we are relaxing in a hotel. i am grilling chicken wings on my george F. and he ordered in... i am relaxing while watching your video. when i take my road trip in may, i will check out that store in Port Angeles. I hope you get a chance to cut your hair. you look fine to me but i definitely understand the need for a trim. we are dealing with heavy rains out east too. thank you for sharing the beauty.
I hope you’re having a great visit with your son
I live in Oregon. Beautiful country. Nice watching your videos.
mmmm yummy grassfed cattle...
I love browsing thru Swains as well!
Hi there scott your a real trooper ot looked pretty cold out there to me and your right the view there is amazing it was also cool to see you interacting with the livestock 😅😅😅
Hey Scott, Going to be near I5 the next couple days?
I picked up a bag of Metropolitan Light Roast for you if you want. I figure we'll be cruising through either tomorrow afternoon or the next morning. If you're not able to get together, no biggie, we'll have it with Paul with whatever we can get at the bakery for a treat. Take care...
So cool of you to think of me. But , no I won't be anywhere near the 5. Say Hi to Paul for me.
I have a clipper set with a dial adjustment instead of different gaurds. If I'm willing to fiddle with my hair for a few days to fix mistakes, I can give myself a pretty decent fade with it. And I'm also not scared to just buzz it and save in shampoo if I mess itnup beyond fixing. But I only cut my hair once or twice a year so I don't get a lot if practice.
Scotttt
Yes?
I love the commentary about where you visiting, lets us know what is available
Yes it is beautiful
See, this is why I enjoy all kinds of weather. 31:06 is breathtaking! Soup and sandwich are perfect for this kind of weather. 🍵n 🥪
Awe! Do worry about your hair! You look fine..I must say you do have nice hair…
I used my aeropress for the first time today. All the coffee dripped out right away, though; I even ground the beans pretty finely. I might have to try your method.
There are some great tutorials. Here’s a link to an excellent video that I wish I had when first trying out the Aeropress: th-cam.com/video/WEjOJffY9PE/w-d-xo.htmlsi=LqMlKvU17gYKfkn4
