- When Pike Fishing...
What's best? Dead baiting with freshwater fish or sea fish?
Armed with a big bag of Roach, Rudd, and Trout, plus a bag of Mackerel, Sardines, and Smelts, me and Claire took a few trips to our favourite lake in an effort to find out.
As usual, we're using barbless circle hooks and I do my best to almost climb into Pikes gob to show the hook holds... Okay, it's a... niche kinda 'Money Shot' but Hey... I'm a strange guy!
Thanks for watching... it'd be strange if no one turned up!
Tight Lines!
PS... Circle Hooks. My fav ones are.
Mustad Demon Circle - Fine. Size 4/0 & 5/0 Ref 39951 - BN ULTRAPOINT
Or...
Mustad Perfect Circle, In Line - Black Nickel. Size 4/0 & 5/0 REF 39944 - BN
Both models are Inline, i just prefer the Fine wire ones.
I get mine off Amazon or Ebay.
Great video. Just getting into pike fishing with my boy but always felt a bit uncomfortable using the standard trebles. Your videos on using the inline circle hook and making traces have been really useful!
thankyou... circle hooks are also sooo much better for the fish too!
Nice session, mate! Cheers! BTW like deadbaiting with circle hooks, less hassle more survival chance for the pike!🍺🍺🍺
Greetings to you and your lady! Tight lines, mate!!!
Good man Mike, some good info and nice Pike
Cheers
That first fish is definitely a 20 haha I'd be buying a new scales lol Great video lad!

I've got new scales so we'll see.
Thanks for watching:)
Thank you from Thailand.
Nice video!
I've been told that a lake local to me holds an 18lb pike so I will have to try and catch it. I like to fish for carp but the colder temps make that quite a slow process with low expectations of catching.
It's nice to see someone using circle hooks. I've had great experience with them for catfish in Thailand (2008ish) and sharks in Florida (2013) many years ago. I use them here for pike with dead baits and on lures.
(Regarding Thailand. People used to fish in the margins for huge catfish. Often they'd miss the fish. There'd be a huge commotion (a massive bow wave) and the fish would be gone before they even knew to strike. Well that was when I used a circle hook. I'd just tighten up and hook up every time! It was fantastic.)
Well I plan on taking my 6yo daughter Jessica with me and hopefully she gets to see her first pike!
Keep up the great content!
Circle hooks are great for looking after the fish, I never use trebles...haven't for over 10 years now.
Good luck with that 18lb fish, thanks for watching!
Mike
Cracking content matey and entertaining watch! 🎣👍
I thank you
Nice one thanks for info on hooks etc 👍 mate that 1st more than 13.5,bro
you're welcome. as for that pike... i've got a new set of scales!
That 1st pike was much bigger than 13 1/2 lbs. Looked like a twenty to me...
That Pike... yeah, i've got a better set of scales since then. Thanks for watching and comment. Tight lines!
Great video and thanks for the info about your favourite hooks. Can I please ask what the hooklength material is please? I like the way you can tie a loop in the end of it and then loop on the hook. Do you think the angle created by coming out of the back of the eye helps hooking efficiency?
Don't bother to reply to this Mike as your rig making videos explain everything beautifully; thanks!
I like the idea and give it a go but I have hooked them through the cheek so I am going back to the drawing board
Just found your channel and subscribed. Enjoying your pike fishing videos. I’m going to do some more pike fishing this winter and looking to start using circle hooks. I’ve had one trip already, but missed the fish, think I hit it a bit early! How long do you wait before you wind into it? Would be good to show it in one of your videos, from bite to strike! Keep up the good work 👍🎣
thanks for subbing. i always hit the run as soon as i see the the float moving off.
@@spikeymikeyangling6218 what’s your hook up percentages, compared to using treble hooks?
I think it was 13-1/2 kg not pounds great looking fish
