- Nov/Dec 2023 and The Man Upstairs continues to grant me extra time to spend on the bank.
Out fishing for Pike again using dead baits and barbless circle hooks... which, after you get the hang of them are really good, not to mention kinder on the fish too!
Hoping to hear the cry 'Fish On!' Just like Mr Wade, but of course from me instead. We'll see what happens.
Wishing you all a great 2024 and hoping you get loads of great big smelly fish too!
Tight Lines!

Excellent video and well done Claire top predator angling. These are now my go to predator rigs for Pike Zander and Hybrid Eel stick rig with smaller barbless circles. It takes a while to not strike but wind down lol.Hope you both are well and have many more angling adventures and share them. All the best.Tony
Thanks Tony :)
@@spikeymikeyangling6218 My pleasure hope to see more videos love the channel 👌👍🇬🇧🎣
Awesome fishing! 🔥🎣
Happy New Year both of you🎉
You too Miss JoJo! X
Very well done
Circle hooks are great. Thoroughly recommend
Funnily enough i just made some single hook rigs up but using catfish hooks. I really like the loom band rig (have seen this done like this before), so just ordered a pack of red loom bands. Tight lines.
Nice fishing 🎣👍
Now this is quality content
Thank you, and thanks for watching.
Great vid mate! Your deffo punching with claire! You got a new sub!
@aarondbrown haha 😄 thanks for watching and subscribing!
I have been using circle hooks ago recently and I must say I’m impressed, one thing u need to overcome when using them Is to give the pike enough time to have the pike 100% in its mouth when using bigger baits
Nice one Mike, haven’t managed any fishing yet this winter but looking forward to a bit of pike bashing soon. Keep calm and carry on.
Make time mate! You never know when it's up!
This retirement business is busy isn't it!
Your not wrong, this year though we have been out of the country a fair bit but once we are back it will hopefully be full steam ahead.
I like your videos keep them coming mate
Why Thanks!
Always good to know someone watches them!
Happy 2024!
Excellent work on the content and video. Also, great work on the editing. I just subscribed to your channel. Keep up the awesome work. Tight lines.
Hey thanks for that! And thanks for the subscription too!
Any detailed Videos on that Lumeband rig????? Looks class
I've been using circle hooks for Pike and Zander for nine years now and would never go back to trebles.
In fact, I like circles so much that these days I even use Eagle Claw L702G circles in sizes 12/14 with sweetcorn/maggots for Roach and Rudd with very good results.
again a very nice video - also with some new information. Sadly our lakes are frozen - just when I wanted to try your rig again after my first caught on the first day of the year. I think I will have no more chance for fishing before pikes are under protection (from 1st of February until 15th of April) because of this wheater 😞
Don't you just hate how the weather works out huh!
@@spikeymikeyangling6218 It is always the same - I want to go fishing and weather is :-( River is too high, Snow/Ice, Fish are under protection, .... How is the weather in UK? fishable?
The Lymm Angler Dangler did the loom band dead bait thing about 2 years ago.
I didn't invent the rig. It's a good one though!
Hi glad to see some ones catching on circles what’s your hook up ratio ?
Hook up ratio? I don't like to tempt fate but mine is very good. 95%.
I don't know why people struggle so much. Don't strike and keep it all taught when you do Hook up.
The more practice the more your rate improves.
Good luck!
@@spikeymikeyangling6218 I’ve herd in others videos it’s down to using too much lead weights. Using a float or a smallest weight possible so your in direct contact to the hook and you don’t have a pendulum motion when tightening down on the Line. I used a 4oz lead on a big lake at range and lost 4-5 runs 1 day in the space of a couple of hours.
@karlmclean2023
Usually fish smaller venues so no need for heavy leads etc. This rig is great for distances upto 40 /50 metres,
Catch most of my fish close range.
@@karlmclean2023 I fish a lot of small venues for Pike and Zander with float/ledger rigs using floats ( by Balzer, Germany ) that balance with 2 grm of lead. Makes for a very sensitive set-up. Using 2/0 Eagle Claw L702G circle hooks my hook-up rate is as close to 100% as makes no difference. I crush the barbs on my hooks and find the in-turned point of a circle is more than adequate to retain a 3-4 inch Roach deadbait.
Just ordered some maggot clips to attach the baits below the hook, but have struggled to find barbless circles.
You want loom bands
Mustard classic in line/ non offset hooks.
Crush the barb to make them barbless... once the point goes in it won't come out!.
All bits off amazon.
@@spikeymikeyangling6218 Mustad 39951 pattern or Eagle Claw L702G pattern, both available from sellers on e-bay. Crushing the barbs gives no problems with bait loss with either brand.
👍 🎣
What hooklength material do you use that you can knot into a loop please. And what knot do you use to tie the loop? I like the way you can simply loop the hook on with the trace coming out of the back of the hook for better hooking I guess.
@paulgay3121 on my channel I have a version of this knot... the easy tie version.
Take a look at that one
Ps the knot is the double surgeons knot... which is basically a double granny knot... very secure!
Let's hear it for the mighty women fisher's
Great pike fishing
Do you lift into or strike with the those circle hooks
You just clarify at the end that u or clare or whoever should wind into rather than strike...cool!
always wind down into the fish... however Claire lost that one after letting the line go slack
