    1. Just make the fuel in a shed or covered carport with a sand or dirt floor that can be easily replaced if it spills. If this is not an option, then build a containment basin with the capacity to retain double the expected production amount and have some kind of absorbent, such as cat litter, to aid with clean up.
    2. You can use sodium hydroxide in place of potassium hydroxide for the catalyst, which you can get sodium hydroxide at Home Depot as drain cleaner. Can't really get around the price and difficulty of acquiring methanol unless you work for a company that will buy it in bulk for you or you can find a place that will sell it retail in bulk.
    3. You can be legal with the taxes if you go to your local Department of Transportation and fill out a fuel usage affidavit with gallons of biofuel used and miles driven and pay the road tax. Different states have different regulations on whether you have to pay the fuel tax monthly or quarterly. You will be given a receipt that you can provide to police if they try to cite you for using alternative fuels.
    4. Yes, this stuff is flammable, so distilling in a well ventilated area that is away from other combustibles, such as buildings, trees, and trash, will reduce the risk of a fire spreading if one breaks out. Having a 10lb ABC fire extinguisher nearby is also very highly recommended.
    5. Using a biofuel with a mixture greater than 20% is not recommended in any diesel engines that have DPF or SCR systems or if the engine has a fuel opacity sensor. Using higher mixes in these engines can plug up the DPF filter or cause an error code to be triggered by the sensor and cause the engine to run poorly. Diesel engines that don't have these systems, typically, but not all inclusively, ones produced before 2009, will run very well on biofuel since it has a higher lubricity than ultra-low sulfur diesel fuel, which will reduce wear on injectors and other fuel components, as long as it's filtered properly. If you're using biofuel in colder environments, it's a good idea to either mix it with pump diesel or add a anti-gel additive to prevent gelling in winter time.

      I hope ya don't mind... I screenshotted this... THANKS FOR EVERY BIT OF THAT! What if one were making diesel for the sole purpose of running an old generator I purchased at a military surplus outlet? I'm concerned mostly with taxes...

      @pokemonrocks08 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@danielbrowning238 If the only use of the fuel is to power a generator or farm equipment, such as a tractor, then it's considered off-road fuel and isn't subject to taxation. Only fuel used for on-road purposes is taxed.

    Would you be willing to do a video on making biofuel, or diesel through the process of pyrolosis, biomass reactor, I think this process negates the pitfalls of biodiesel. @@gregs_garage Hello, there are several channels that show the process. It is a little more labor intensive system. you take plastic - bottles, wrappers, rubber tires minus the steel cords. chop up small pieces. place it all into a sealed container. IF you can remove all the O2 from it even better. heat it up to to where it will melt it will release flammable gases that will need to be burned off or reused as the heat source, then it goes through a condenser to be liquefied. The end product is grade B fuel oil.
      There are a fair amount of production plants around the world.
      If you collected 100 pounds / 45kg of plastic you would get roughly 10 gallons / 40 liter of oil.

    6.7, 3.0 and 3.2 Powerstrokes are sensitive to fuel quality. Alot of problems with the HPFP's due to fuel quality. I wouldn't recommend using home brew diesels in any modern ford from 08 up. Powerstroke tech talk with Arod and I both have talked about this before on his Livestreams. Now MY 07/6.0 and down not a big deal. Personally I've been running 100% used transmission fluid for years. I just filter it and run it. I've been thinking about bio diesel as my ATF source is dried up since I'm not working at the dealership anymore. In Florida I don't think I'll have to worry about the bio gelling up. Between my 7.3 and my ALH I need to do something and quick.

    Number 6. And this comes more as part of don't wreck your car a bit.... Petrodiesel isn't just hydrocarbon fuel. They also have an additive package that includes all sorts of detergents, decoking agents, anti microbial agents and freezing inhibitors. Commercial mass manufactured biodisels that are made to American/European/International standards also have these additive packages. So Even if your car says it will run on B20 okay... It will probably suffer badly on homemade B20 in the long term. Where homemade B100 or other blends excel is in home heating. B50 with 45% used motor oil and preferably 5% or so brand new Diesel motor oil or a good 2-stroke oil really works fantastically. The reason you use the fresh Diesel motor oil or 2-stroke oil is because of some rather fancy chemistry.. Motor oils when they burn (especially old used oils or tallow/vegetable oils) produce a LOT of acids and coking in heaters... Fresh motor oils, if you look at their technical datasheets have this thing called TBI (Total base index). It's a measure of how much anti-acid additives are in that oil. Diesel engine oils and 2-stroke oils have some of the highest percentages of anti-acid and decoking additives in them of any oils on the market. This massively helps in keeping burners clean and stops exhausts rusting through at a very high rate.

      Biodiesel is derived from vegetable or animal-based fats with the glycerin removed. The resulting light oil (biodiesel) has similar properties to diesel fuel but is much cleaner.
