Just ordered a Big Boss today for $55 because I realized I don't have any fixed blades in stainless. All 1095, 5160 and one 425M Buck Nighthawk. So this is going to be my dedicated food prep blade at the campsite.
Yeah I saw someone promoting the smaller one at $40 but it was sold out so I got the bigger one for $55. Glad I did actually, I think I'll prefer the big one. Quite a good price for an S35VN fixed blade especially with a leather sheath which I like.. Might replace the handles with wood for the aesthetic. Should make a good all-rounder especially for bushcraft or as a hunting (field dressing) knife.
One thing that is amazing is how the scales cover the tang. If they were g10 with a bit more girth and some contouring, these knives would be a grand slam
Just ordered the Big Boss for $55 today to be used as a dedicated food prep blade for the campsite. I realised I don't have any stainless fixed blades, just 1095 and 5160. I was also looking at the Ontario Bushcraft Field in 420HC and the Buck Selkirk in 420HC. But the Selkirk is made in communist china and doesn't have the BOS heat treat.
My BigBoss came with serious scratches on one side of the swedge, so that part is now mirror finished. Imagine the scales being made of some fine pieces of wood! (oak, zebra wood, snakewood, curlybirch etc). Maybe even burlap micarta...
I think the Big Boss deserved to be more popular. I guess it was the handle scales that turned most people off. They should have offered micarta or wood scales. That and the sheath doesn't come with a good belt loop.
I think the Snody Big Boss is calling my name. The scales would do... for now. That's a nice looking sheath too, but what's up with no belt attachment? But that blade makes it for me! The Snody Boss is cool too, but I'm not sure about chisel grinds. The last one of those I had was an Emerson Specwar by Benchmade with ATS34 steel in the mid-90s.
Great for field work on game , in my opinion this is what they are designed for and should be used for. You have a heavy duty fixed blade work knife for general camp use. And then you have a knife like one of these strictly for meat prep or the breakdown of a carcass. I would prefer the larger one of these two by far. It's a great looking blade and the steel is good never have to worry about the rust Factor.
Schmuckatelli? Snody? Dollar Holler? Whoa. Serious weirdo name play. The scales are pretty funky. Purple is okay, but the big S is cheesy. So this is maybe a tongue-in-cheek knife?
These used to come with far better quality sheaths & some "funky" paracord to use for the sheath / lanyard. There was 2 separate lengths of paracord. I'm really disappointed that Ka Bar started skimping on these collaborations.
REAL MEN CARRY FIXED BLADES 👍😄🔪 I wish they would have done a combo sheath to carry them both (like "Knives of Alaska"). Large for large animals and camp, small for intricate work and fish, squirrel, rabbit, or fowl.
I've been intrigued with these blades since first seeing them. I really like the design, and while I don't particularly care for Snody (there are several stories out there on the web about his antics) but I respect some of the work he does. The blades look amazing, but the scales are zytel crap. They clearly had to cut cost somewhere, because you are getting a sweet JRE sheath (amazing quality) , and a big chunk of s35. Still on the fence with these. Maybe if they go on closeout or clearance. Dolla Holla is ridiculous. They probably cost a dolla (way less in reality)
I thought Mike Snody had faded away into his own narcistic obscurity & yet here he is on a colab. with Kabar ....LOL....what a spectacular fail/fall for the self ascribed legend in his own mind M Snody !
They are $40 and $55 right now. Got me a few😁

That's what I thought... like 5 years ago;)

Those scales are tragic, they make an otherwise nicely finished blade/sheath combo look like it came from the gas station.
Merry Christmas! Nice blades with nice steel. I'm a big fan of blue and purple so that's a winner. Thanks for sharing and stay well.

great knife! Had this for several years. Merry Christmas...

Just bought the Big Boss, now I just have to wait for the Boss to come back into stock. 😁

I'm not really into fixed blades but these are pretty interesting. I've never seen a grind like this before on the smaller blade
Just realized you got a bento box m390 with blue g10 like the one I used in my TH-cam pic. The other knife I used was the CTS-204p domino
Thanks for sharing and keep up the great work...
Much love from Switzerland
Hmmm those are beautiful... a real upgrade for kabar.
Decent looking. The boss would make a great pocket fixed blade. Big Boss a little to big for that. More of a camping knife or hiking knife.
Nice knives. Some African blackwood or cocobolo would dress it up. Those plastic handles are dime store in my opinion.
what's the point/benefit to having it be a chisel grind? that's my only hesitation
"get it all the way in here"-- that's what budlightdylan said

His Benchmade collaborations were cool, though
Why the chisel blade profile?
They look purple because they are purple. lol
Dollar signs purple scales
Nah, looks like a pair from the dollar shop.
😞nah its a miss
58 is too soft....59 is min for my s35
eww chisel grind
