  • The KABAR BK-16 is a perfect companion knife. I have done some amazing modifications that I feel improve the overall functionality and look of the BK-16.

    I've got Old Hickory kitchen knives that are high carbon steel. Wipe them off every time and they'll never rust. If I forget to wipe them off I'll take a soap pad to them and wipe them down with Camellia oil, the same oil that Japanese sword makers use. Nice knife and you're taking good care of it. The ultimate bushcraft knife should cost about $700 so your friends would be impressed at your wealth when you're waving that baby around. "Yeah, this thing is made of meteor dust".

    • @robertsbushcraft
      @robertsbushcraft  ปีที่แล้ว

      The only way I'll ever own a $700 knife is if someone were to give it to me. Even then, I'm not sure I'd even use it, which makes it almost worthless to me.

    I agree. I've had mine for about 5 years now & it's becoming my go to knife more & more. I patinaed mine the same way & put the micarta scales on it with a leather sheath. I have the AZ Welke for my BK17. I would recommend TOMAR'S KA-BAR KNIVES if you would like to find any KA-BAR. Semper Fi.

    Mine of 3yrs old remains standard. I made my own bushcraft sheath though for scout carry or normal side and place for ferro rod of 5mm thick leather. Setup is a beast. Bk16 my main go to but EDC is Crkt hunt n fisch, other main blades BST ambassador, Buck open season and Mora companion. Just love em all with different character. See comments about sheaths on here. One does not buy a knife and worry bout the quality of the sheath, replace em. Made my own for 3 of above 5 knives. Love your review, considering doing the mods but not the sheath, love leather.

    Manly Drugar/Manly Patriot. LT Wright Genesis or GNS with Flat grinds, Ka-Bar BK 16, TRC South Pole, Lionsteel M4, Joker Ember F, ESEE PR4 are some of the most useful knives. No need to go bigger and unwieldy.. My most used fixed blade, is the Manly Patriot and my most unused knives, are the large ones.

    My BK 16 is identical to yours except my AZWELKE is black. All my Becker’s and ESEE blades live in one of his sheaths , thinking about sending him my Lion steel T5. I’ve had my Becker knives for a few years and I love them. The last year of so I find my self reaching for my ESEE 3&4 in S35VN. The edge retention just blows 1095 away. I’m well aware of the pro and cons of both steels and can put a edge on either in the field. I keep my BK 2 close by just incase I need to pry open a car door ! 😂

    Hi Gabriel, Great video. It is important not to be stuck with a $3.00 gas station knife when you need a real one. I also will never own the overpriced hand made knives you are scared to use. I don't own a Becker yet. My bag has a Cold steel SRK (the Carbon V model) and next in the collection will be an ESEE (not sure which one). I have Ontario and I even have a real Russian Spetsnaz (special forces) survival knife. My EDC folder is a Cold Steel Recon -1 Tanto. It is robust and has been with me since approximately 2005. I passed by Smokey Mountain Knife Works and I had to pull in and I bought it.

    If this knife is stainless steel, it would be the perfect knife. In a survival situations or even just daily use, I don't want to waste time babying the knife to prevent rust, and I don't think mineral oil is good for food preparing. SMH those made in USA knives mostly are 1095.

      I live in a wet environment, never had any real issues with rust. People seem so afraid of it. Real woodsmen have used simple carbon steels for hundreds of years
