I have the G3 and G2C( I use the G2c as an everyday carry) my husband and I own several.....dozen firearms. We own 5 Taurus firearms and I personally have never had a problem with them. The G3 is a ridiculously reliable gun, right out of the box 750 rounds ran through and not a single notable malfunction. It is accurate but I personally took some of my nail polish and painted the front blade to help see the sites( made me more accurate with it) A great gun over all.

During the time waiting for my CCP to come in I practiced drawing the gun from the holster. Push with forefinger to release the holster catch, then the right thumb slides the safety off. This gets very quick and smooth with practice. Can't imagine having this gun in the holster fully loaded with the safety off.

My oldest child (a daughter, 56) lives alone in Arizona. She recently expressed some concern for her safety and asked about gun options. I immediately sent her my 19 and a check to cover instruction/range time. Deprived of my bedside gun, I began to consider MY options. Being retired and on a fixed income, I didn't really want to spend $600 at this point in my life (I'll be 80 next BD) so was thinking hard about the G3. I knew Taurus was upping its game because I had bought a TX22 and loved everything about it, but I did NOT want a manual safety (it is optional on the TX).
My Missouri shit-kicker solution: Super Glue! A tiny drop along the bottom edge of the safety (while on 'fire', of course) immobilized that sucker for good, AND, it's invisible. I know firearms purists are going to go nuts if they read this, but it works for me and it apparently will work forever: I clean my pistols in an ultra-sonic device filled with gasoline. That bath has NO effect on the Super Glue.
So, want a G-3 but don't like manual safeties? Get some Super Glue at the Dollar Tree... I promise I won't tell.

I own more expensive guns glocks beretta sig s&w and others but I don't have any more reliable than the Taurus g2c and g3. I carry the g3 and the g2c as my backup. My g2c has over 4500 rounds through it and never any malfunctions it shoots any 9mm ammo I put in it.the same goes for my g3 which has over 3000 rounds through it now. That's alot more then I can say about some of my more expensive guns. I wasn't crazy about the g2c trigger so i had my gunsmith change it out 40 dollars and i love the way it is now.

  • @BazonBlades

Better trigger than a G19, IMO. 500 rounds through my example with zero malfunctions of any type so far. The manual safety will be a love/hate thing with enthusiasts, but works well. I love the grip angle, size, shape and texture. I really like the G3, regardless of price.
I know there is a lot of interest in the G3 right now. My initial video showcasing the differences between the G3 and the G2c has over 50,000 views so far. Which is insane for my small channel.

New subscriber, I like your review. Couple comments. While everyone has the right to their opinion on safeties, they shouldn't be dismissed outright. Many people prefer a thumb safety. As a lifelong 1911 shooter, I, like others, am completely trained to use a thumb safety automatically and a pistol with a safety is highly appreciated. I realized the modern paradigm is to criticize a safety, but it has its place for shooters trained up to use one automatically. It prevents a lot of dangerous "oops." and do we really know if the Taurus was designed to function safely without one? On the finish: Tenifer, is a finish meant to prevent rust. The color is not part of the Tenifer and as such whether the color lasts or not is somewhat irrelevant, it's just cosmetic. Wile we might like the color to last, even a Glock's color will wear, as will many other pistols finishes in a nitrite-type finish--but they won't rust, which is the point. Regarding shooting at 40 yards. No, long distance shooting is not a likely scenario in personal defense, but then, self-defense is something we hope to go our entire lives without experiencing. We should do some practice at long range on a regular basis and our gear--and our skill set--should be up to the task. Thanks for an excellent pistol review. --Mark

The G3 is legit. The only thing I would change is the recoil spring and guide rod. There is a full stainless available for $34. You can also convert that 15 rd mag into a 18 rounder. I used the Mec-Gar butt plate from a CZ75 mag. It's a Plus 2 plate but actually held 3 additional rounds rather than 2.

Mec Gar are factory mags... They are literally the same body just longer and a longer spring. Canik TP9 mags, Taurus 24/7 Gen I mags as well. I'm sure there's others but that's what I've found so far. Used a mic and caliper, they're identical sizes. Can run a 32 Rd Pro Mag straight from Taurus, but you better double up the spring or trade it for a Wolff xtra power for a Glock 33 rd. Not everything "factory" is better. That's why there's a proliferation of aftermarket parts, and factory production usually follows suite with what the aftermarket innovates.

As you said it has a Tennifer or nitro carburizing shell so it won't rust even if the black oxide outer finish doesn't last. So down the road swap out the sights and put a better finish on it if you want.

Yes, it has a trigger blade safety and a drop-safety piston internally, but both are easily defeated by grit or lint over time. For safe carry, since IT IS SINGLE ACTION ONLY when racked, you must use that manual safety and a decent holster to protect it! READ your manual!...………………………….elsullo

I just got a g3 and I love the thing. A few things I love about but most importantly cheap and still really good in my opinion. Something people who think more money = better is that if you’re ever in a situation and you use it and take down someone, the cops will take it as evidence and who knows when you’ll see it again. I’d rather have a gun that $300 taken away than one that’s $600+ and same quality

Kenny J Taurus got me into pistol shooting to begin with. They are an affordable way to enter the sport. They are decent for the money but I wouldn’t rely on one to save my life. They do serve a purpose though. I’m glad they make affordable guns for an entry level firearm for people on a budget.

    • @coryturner9140
      @coryturner9140 4 ปีที่แล้ว

Kenny J the g3 is great I had a g2c and it wouldn’t go into battery about every 6th round. I would have to tap the slide to be able to shoot it. I polished the feed ramp and finally ended up putting a stainless guide rod and spring in it and it seemed to be working fine but I still didn’t trust it. Maybe I got a lemon. The triggers aren’t all that great either but it’s a budget pistol. My Taurus Pt-92 (beretta style) is fantastic and very accurate and never had any issues. I don’t dislike Taurus at all I just don’t trust the budget guns al that much. I have a Springfield hellcat which costs twice as much but I’m happy to pay for the reliability and trigger over the Taurus.

I have the G2C and I put in the steel guide rod and the steel striker guide after polishing parts of the trigger as suggested in other TH-cam videos and it is running smooth as silk. Well better than gritty trigger pull it had before. I plain on getting the G3 and getting the steel guide rod and striker guide, but no polishing the trigger on the G3 if it is better than the G2C as I have heard. Night sights will be the last thing on the list to get, after I buy it and make the upgrades.

It’s also not a budget M&P 2.0, it’s roughly the same size but that’s where the comparisons end as far as I’m concerned. I will also say if this is your choice of CCW then train to hit that safety on the draw. You can not put the safety on and remarkably it will have activated when you didn’t expect it to, so train to hit the safety on your draw.

Being a g2c owner, I 100% agree that the Taurus' stippling is fantastic, and the stippling on the sd9ve is not

I really hate the manual safety hating crowd. It can be disengaged before the gun is even in the firing position. If you can't toggle a simple safety in a tense situation I don't think you should carry a gun, as target aquisition, knowledge of what's behind your target, etc. Are so much more complicated. I'm not just talking out of my ass, I carried an M9 and 1911 on safe in the Marine Corps, and used them to protect my life on multiple occasions. Definitely train to disengage the safety even if it's off just for muscle memory. The Taurus safety is in the perfect position and holding it down gives you a pretty good firing grip on the gun. Just my two cents. My glock 19, 26, and 27 don't have safeties and I don't care, but some people won't even buy a gun with a manual safety. If somebody ever takes your gun that split second it takes to figure out it's on safe can save your life. I refuse to carry a 1911 off safe, due to the design but the G3 is off safe most of the time. Either way it's a nice option to have for some people. Love this gun. I put this slide on my G3c frame and it's Glock 19 size lol!
