  • We’re bringing you a free pattern and video series called Jelly Snowflake Mystery Quilt to celebrate Christmas in July. It’s a good time to start something for the holidays. And… it’s a MYSTERY!
Each week in July we will release one video tutorial with a FREE pattern with a little help from our quilty friends. If you’re new to quilting, the detailed videos will show you how to cut, stitch and sew every step of the way! We won’t reveal the look of the quilt beforehand. That’s a secret! If you participated in our Merry Mini Mystery Quilt last year you know how fun it can be. We've also added a timer - Kimberly’s sewing in real-time so you can see how long it takes her to make 1 block!
Be sure to share your projects using #JellySnowflakeQAL and tag us (@fatquartershop) to join in the fun!

I have a question. I layered my four strips and cut the A’s and B’s. For the C squares, the pattern says to cut three, which would give me twelve squares. Don’t I need 16 squares? If I am making four- patch blocks, I would need four colored squares and four white squares. Four colored squares times four strips should be 16 squares, not 12. Am I not thinking correctly?

Hello! Kimberly prefers to use a 1.75 stitch length because it provides more strength which in the end helps her quilts last longer. Kimberly uses the Juki TL-2010Q sewing machine: amzn.to/2onygue

Hi Quick question...rather than a jelly roll of different fabrics, I'd like to do a metallic white fabric with a light blue background. Since this is a mystery quilt, I don't know if that will work. Do you think it will? Thanks so much

So I have one jelly roll but it has only five colors. Will that look okay for this quilt?

for the background can we use a jelly roll as well? Just wondering if in the other blocks we will be using widths wider than 2.5".

Hello Mary! Yes, some of the background widths are wider than 2.5", but you can piece together JR strips to make them if you need.
