  • I sent my Indian wife to Pakistan... across the brand new Kartarpur Corridor to visit Gurdwara Sri Kartarpur Sahib! Manisha will take you through the entire process of crossing the border to Pakistan and I'll cover what's available for foreigners like me who aren't allowed to go. Manisha also gives all her reactions to being an Indian in Pakistan for the first time. Now, let's go meet some Pakistanis!
For full information on how to travel to Kartarpur Sahib via the Corridor see blog.karlrock.....
Gurudwara Sri Kartarpur Sahib is where Sikhism’s founder, Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji, spent the last 18 years of his life. Access to the Gurudwara was cut off after partition. But now Indian pilgrims can access it from India via the Kartarpur Corridor that extends 4.5 km into Pakistan.
Pakistan and India worked together to build the Kartarpur Corridor and from my wife's reaction, I can see that it's bringing Indians and Pakistanis closer together.

@@jayantsharma2267 Actually the 20 dollars makes sense. You have to pay so much money to go anywhere in the world. The temple happens to be in Pakistan which means they can charge that money. It isn't Pakistan's responsibility to pay for others pilgrimage. Saudi Arabia doesn't pay for the muslims to be able to go there for a pilgrimage. This isn't the way the world works anymore. They have to pay the guards, they have to put gas in those buses etc. Pakistan has many people who are poor beyond relief and needs to help their own too. Having a fee is reasonable. People can now go there! We should all be celebrating the opportunity!!

@@djmarinerjosh5808just put it in perspective; muslims pay average of £6000 (six thousand British Pounds) to go to Saudi Arabia for Haj.
For the lesser pilgrimage of Umra in Saudi Arabia it cost about £2000.
The expense from Pakistan to Saudi Arabia for the same pilgrimage is slightly less costly but it's still is in six figures of Pakistani Rupees.

      @Peacelover174 4 ปีที่แล้ว

London Diaries Pakistan has emerged as a perfect example of fake showoff and love for Sikh community from outside but from inside it seems to harbor some other sentiments. Yes even my ancestral homes were in Pakistan (both from my mother and father’s side), not even single day passed when my granny did not tell me a story of their home in Sargoda (Pakistan) and I use to listen to it fondly, it made me emotional too so many times. And I also wish for a normal India-Pakistan relation. But at the same time there are indeed many things which make Pakistan stand in the dock when it comes to the issue of Sikhs in their country.
Note: I am not targeting common people of Pakistan, it’s the Pakistan establishment and it’s discriminating policies that causes deep hurt as a Sikh
a.) No accountability of rapidly dwindling Sikh community with no growth in numbers
I remember in 1997, my maternal uncle first went to Pakistan to Nankana Sahib, he was first one from our family to visit the shrine. I clearly remember asking him as a teenager about total population of Sikhs in Pakistan, he told me around 15-20 thousand as he heard from Indian embassy officials and local tour guides. Amusingly after 20 yrs that figure hasn’t moved much still I read and hear that there are 20,000 Sikhs in Pakistan? So why aren’t Sikhs increasing in numbers at a natural rate compared with other communities in Pakistan specially the majority Muslims?
Pakistan is home to approximately 20,000 Sikhs, though the real figure is unknown, as the group was excluded from the most recent population census.
b.)Blatant refusal to count Sikh Population in 2017
Most Sikhs aren’t aware but Pakistan openly refused to add a separate column for Sikhs in their census last year. This point is also an extension to the above point about Sikh population. Series of dramatic incidents happened in this regard, the department that is responsible for conducting census in Pakistan didn’t keep separate column for Sikhs at first which was highly disappointing later Sikhs were forced to approach the High Court for this basic right, the HC directed Pakistan Govt to include separate column for Sikhs, but the Supreme Court of Pakistan reversed the order and refused on the grounds that it’s too late to make a separate column for Sikhs
Pakistanis made a very smart move as this is a clear indication that Pakistan doesn’t want to tell the actual number of Sikhs in their country, Otherwise what was the need by the Govt to go to Supreme Court? Why weren’t columns made at the very first place?
C.)Terrible condition of other Gurudwaras apart from the main ones
Many of the Sikhs are just fooled by looking at the superb arrangements and top class management at main Gurudwara Nankana Sahib and few others usually visited by jathas. They get swayed away by hospitality, which is actually appreciable. But nobody ever makes effort to read or research that how terrible are the conditions of many other Gurudwaras which are historically related with Guru Nanak and other Sikh Gurus who had spend their time there. Mr Haroon Khalid (a Pakistani writer) came up with an excellent book ‘Walking with Nanak’ which is a testimony to the terrible conditions of gurudwaras in Pakistan related to Guru Nanak apart from the main ones mostly visited by Sikhs. Another brilliant work done in this area is by a Sikh Amardeep Singh through his monumental work titled lost heritage. So many news articles have also appeared in this regard in Pakistan Media itself. Many Gurudwaras have been reduced to ruins used by drug peddlers and alcoholics for carrying their illegal activities.
d.)Encouraging elements that provide safe havens for the separatists
Khalistan, separate country on religious lines for Sikhs haven’t been off their radar ever since 1971. The irony here is if khalistan is to be formed then their supporters always boast of ‘Maharaja Ranjit Singh’ kingdom, why do the Pakistanis forget that it’s they who are occupying his capital Lahore and it’s only them who are sitting in Nanakana (birthplace of Guru Nanak). The major portion of Punjab which was under Ranjit Singh’s rule is in Pakistan. If Khalistan ever is to be made the major portion will fall in Pakistan not in India. But Pak govt’s silence on the extremist elements who are pushing some Sikhs virtually into this menace is really appalling. Rather Pak should play an instrumental role in finishing off this nuisance but their establishment has been mute on it’s soil being used for fanning these sentiments. In April, 2018 when some 1800 Sikhs visited Pakistan on the occasion of Baishakhi, the Indian officials were separated from the Jatha and Khalistani posters greeted them on their way, on and off report keeps coming showcasing the desperation for ‘Helping Sikhs make their nation’.Which provides a good dose of laughter
      e.) Historical enmity and hatred
It’s another fact of matter that Sikhs didn’t join Pakistan which amounted to a very big loss of a major portion of Punjab to India (from a Pakistani’s point of view), since Pakistan is always on the lookout for the opportunity to take over some of the territories of India by hook or crook (like POK) as there is always a regret in Pakistan that territorial distribution was not fair, also the wounds increase manifolds after East Pakistan’s independence. A major point to be noted here is that Punjab’s territory before partition included present Haryana and Himachal too, if 14% Sikh population of entire Punjab (Muslims being 52%) along with Patiala state (10 districts of Haryana and Punjab) had accepted Jinnah’s spider like offer that would have made the case very strong for including entire Punjab in Pakistan. Sikhs opted for India which tilted the balance and made Punjab qualified case for a district wise division. Can Pakistan ever forgive and forget this? This puts entire Sikh community vulnerable to Pakistan’s hostility, how can we ignore that Pakistan that was made on pure Islamic principles shamelessly discriminated with Ahmedis and Mohajirs who are Muslims themselves.
Can they forget this humiliating moment ever?

@Mr K with respect comes fairness, with fairness comes equality and judiciousness.
Also why abuse someone when they are not talking about Kashmir and you don't know what their views are?
All problems between Pakistan and India (including Kashmir) are much more likely to be sorted by increased people to people contact.
When ordinary people meet each other, when members of the public (including people on TH-cam) have respect and appreciation for each other.
We can absolutely disagree with the policies of the government but that does not mean you should tar all the people with the same brush.
Also you don't change minds by abuse - you just help reinforce and entrench any negative held views.
