This my version of carlykaisers Man O' War video. Some differences and some similarities. I made mine like hers cuz I loved hers. It's kinda coping her but I hope no hard feelings! I DON'T OWN PICTURES,VIDEO CLIPS, OR MUSIC
Man O War there are no words that can express or define you!!!!! All I can say is there is no one who can compare to you!!!! You are truly a champion, a legend, and the greatest of all times!!!! Your spirit lives on through your descendants!!!! Your loved my beautiful boy and won’t ever be forgotten!!!!❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️😇😇😇😇😇😇
OH MY GOD. I am so grateful to everybody who made this video possible: the original photographers and camera people, and to you the compiler. I actually get to see the mighty legend, Man O' War!!!!!!!! And while I must admit my heart belongs to Secretariat, the question of who was greater will and can never be settled, can it? Much love and respect for both MAGNIFICENT horses. And I have tears in my eyes right now because of this amazing experience... to be actually able to see that other tremendous machine, the god that is Man O'War!
Riddle instructed his jockeys NEVER to let MOW run all out. Mostly he was extremely protective of his horse (he thought the May date of the KY Derby too early to run a 3-y-o, and so left the Triple Crown aside), but he also found few people willing to race their horses against the Red. They didn't want their horses' hearts broken. He was the winnin'est... Even under a tight rein, he smashed records and passed them by.
I wish horses lived forever. I love them all., Secretariat, Man O' War, War Admiral, War Relic and Seabiscuit. Such noble, beautiful, inspiring creatures who won our hearts!
Man O' War's stride length, according to the KY Horse Park, and numerous other sources, was 28 feet. Secretariat's was 24, and little John Henry's was 25 1/2 feet long.
Man-of-war was the truth in horse racing he beat his comp by 10 and 100 lengths and heated last until the age of 30 GOD bless you man of war you were the greatest
Man O' War! Man O' War #1 on ALL panels of Racing Experts Filled with Secretariat fanatics &Sec proponents on them:MOW #1 Sports Illustrated 1992.MOW #1 AP 1999 panel MOW #1 Bloodhorse 1999 panel.MOW #1 Espn racing dept horse of century. MOW even #1 AP 1950 over Cy&C.Fleet.MOW obliterated many more records by much farther margins on much slower tracks restrained&eased up with heavy steel shoes&carrying&conceding much more weight.MOW was as great in big or small fields, etc.
You are absolutely correct. As a matter of fact it has been published that S. Riddle refused to race Man O War after his 21st race due to the amount of weight he would have to carry. Mr. Riddle didn't want to break MOW's spirit and felt it unjust. Aside from that...Both Man O War and Secretariat are legends. Oh to see them race now ... there's nothing in this day and age to compare...
There are people out there who would say Citation had them both beat. Out of all the racing footage I've seen, I've never seen a faster mover than Kelso, who was a grandson of Man O' War. Another great horse - he was astoundingly versatile. My personal feeling is that Man O' War is the best America ever bred. A little more of his influence in breeding might make people stop talking about making the Triple Crown easier to win. If they make those changes, what would winning it mean?
I love your attitude:-) Several years ago, I watched a fascinating special on race horses. Scientists viewed them running in slow motion looking for the "perfect locomotive gait" and drew a diagram to simulate it...Secretariat was the ONLY horse that was in perfect alignment. No other came close. He was also the only horse in recorded history to increase his speed (due to his enlarged heart). I'm a HUGE fan of MOW...& yes...they're VERY similar & still my two favorites! Especially Secretariat:-)
Man O War-51 different opponents,Sec-98. MOW was superb in big fields, medium fields, small fields & match races due to his phenomenal speed & super stamina. MOW broke records in 5 straight races, 4 in 4 weeks time,3 in 3 weeks time. MOW carried 130lbs or more(130-138) 9 Times. MOW destroyed many more records by much bigger margins mainly being eased up & galloping on much slower tracks with heavy steel shoes & while carrying&conceding much more weight.
All racehorses are built for power and speed. I love that you guys are passionate about your favorite horses, but it's important that you expand your knowledge about the sport. I think it's difficult to truly appreciate just what was special about your favorite horses when you haven't given other horses their due. How much do you really know about Kelso, Forego, Citation, Sysonby, Colin, John Henry, etc.? These horses are also legends and with good reason.
@BigPetrov Kelso won 7 out of 8 races as a 3 yr old. He was boxed in the race he lost. Secretariat lost 5 times in 21 starts. What's so great about that?
Magnificent animal. One of his riders said, "I just let him run. It was like being on a runaway locomotive." I know that Man o' War raced as a two-year-old, and he carried heavy weights even then, but he didn't break down. Was he just exceptionally sound, or were race horses in general in his time more sound than they apparently are now? Or did race horses break down then just as they do now, and the fact was covered up? Any thoughts on this?
I think that horses broke down then at the same rate they do now, but back then it was just accepted as part of the sport. There wasn't the concern for the horses that there is today; they ran them till they couldn't run any more then put them down. Man o' War was an exception because he was such a successful racer.
Only one Man O' War. I read somewhere that his owner or rider said they never found out how fast he really was because they never let him go, turned him loose, etc. I grew up with horses, checked out the book from the library when I was a kid. Never finished it. And I actually had my" Heart Horse " APHA Eternal Nite aka Scout that was a Great grandson of MOW. He could fly. I can see a resemblance passed down in my horse .Loved that boy. Great lineage. I would like a clone of my boy.Best horse ever
Man O' War, speed lightning, chain lightning, lightning legend. Not 1 horse who ever lived could beat Man O' War doing anything. Not 1 horse could beat Man O' War 1 on 1 doing anything at any distance.
Man O War the greatest race horse to ever live. When I was in middle school I reas a book about him. I fell in love with this great animal after reading that book. He was abused as a colt and always ran under a huge handicap. The one race he lost was not his fault. They didn't have gates back then. The jockey got him turned around. His owner stopped racing him because the others wanted to add even more weight on him. He didn't want his horse injured so he was put out to stud. Now his great great ex.. are winning races. A lot of the winners have his bloodline. I don't like the race industry. I think what they do to win in aot of these sports concerning animals is sickening. Like tieing the horses tongue so they can't put their tongue on top of the bit to stop the pain. When the jockeys pull on the bite wsy to hard. What's been done to standard bred horses injures the area around the hoof. Not to mention how these animals are discarded if they don't win major money. Dog food or to Europe to feed the people.
@victorcornet21 Yes, and people don't realize that his time at 1 5/8th was faster than Secretariat ran 1 5/8th. I think MOW is the greatest ever... Kelso and Dr. Fager, both underrated as well.
@greatbigbubby I agree! Humans are the most perfect example of not using their ability, talents or potential...regardless of what they have as an advantage over others. It's what's inside. That's why I think Secretariat is the greatest creature that ever lived on Earth. He had it ALL. We'll never see his perfect "10" again. Secretariat is my idol & hero. I watch him on youtube everyday. He's the only God-like perfection I've ever witnessed. His life is an inspiration to all of us.
Racing starts for horses at 2 years of age, if they are ready. Botm "Big Reds" started at two and retired at the end of their 3 year old season. It was said of them both "what else could they have done, had they been allowed to race longer? Their situation is very common today - early retirement. These horses are bred for their potential stud fee instead of for the improvement of the breed, or for the good of the sport. As for Secretariat's records, only time will tell.
Man O'War and Secretariat's strides where found to be equal. The announcer calling Secretariat's race even said that. There are alot of things about Secretariat and Man O'War that are similar...makes you almost think MOW came back for an encore as Secretariat.
@greatbigbubby I definitely favor one...Secretariat. He is my IDOL. I think he is the greatest creature that ever lived. He was the perfect "10". We'll never see any human, horse, etc. again that had it ALL. He is the only horse that was considered the "perfect" race horse physically. He was beautiful beyond words, powerfully built, the largest engine (heart) ever recorded & natural confidence that humans will never know. And what he did in the TC has NEVER been matched by any horse in history.
There are alot of great race horses in history. But it's different when you can set records that make you a legend. There was only one Mark Spitz...until Michael Phelps. Who's topped Secretariat in his world records? Unfortunately, Secretariat was retired too soon...He was only 2 or 3 when he stopped racing:-( We'll never know what other records he would have broken..
About Secretariat increasing his speed during a race: Wikipedia's entry on Zenyatta says that she did this in 2008's Lady's Secret Stakes. Each fraction faster than the other. Have you heard about this?
I love this horse! Only Secretariat was his match. Although Secretariat would have the race of his life, he would have won. He had longer strides and was the only horse recorded in history that had the perfect running gait. He also is the only horse that could increase his speed throughout a race. Man O' War would have taken the lead in the beginning, but in the end we would have seen the race of a lifetime with Secretariat beating him at the end. 2 greatest horses of all time...and still are.
BTW, great footage of Man O' War. He was my favorite horse since I was 5 years old. He was physically magnificent. And then the greatest thing to happen to man came along...the great Secretariat. I still love MOW. He's my 2nd favorite horse. Secretariat, to me, is beyond description. He wasn't a horse. He was a miracle. However, I still think that physically, only Man O' War was Secretariat's rival. Secretariat's 22 pound engine would have outraced MOW.
I also think that Man O' War and Secretariat were the only 2 race horses in history that were built for power and speed. All you have to do is compare their photos to other horses.
I've read that the "good ones" have a "quality walk". Keep observing and learning, looking at old films etc. but still haven't seen a good amount of film that captures the way he moved.
Secretariat was an amazing horse, but I think MOW would beat him. Remember the tracks were slower, the shoes were heavier..... in the years between the two many advances were made in racing. MOW is the greatest ever.
@@jimtheodoropoulos2630 You make no sense. You clearly know nothing about Man O' War. Here's a lesson. He raced 21 times and won 20, as a 3 and 4 year old. He lost to a horse named Upset, his jockey admitted it was his fault. He established 7 track records. He won one race by an incredible 100 lengths and triumphed in another carrying 138 pounds. He whipped a Triple Crown champion by seven lengths in a match race.
@sczen -- also--i was told the timings by the track "supers" at churchill-belmont-and pimlico-- learned of MAN O' WAR'S stature by a very close source--knowledgeable--to the connections!!~
ONLY Secretariat still holds race track records 35 years after he set them. Citation ran the same races and doesn't hold any records for the Triple Crown. I still think Man O' War is the only horse that was in Secretariat's league. Secretariat won 2 of those races FROM LAST POSITION and the 3rd race BY 31 LENGTHS & no one's beat his record yet!!! And absolutely no horse or human, (except Secretariat) has ever been clocked as INCREASING their speed during races..he defied nature. He's a legend:-)
And how about the Preakness & Belmont...Man O' War raced in both. Secretariat broke all three Triple Crown records. And still standing. It's now going on 37 years. I think that MOW was great but Secretariat was the true miracle of nature. As a horse, MOW was magnificent. I just think that Secretariat's "perfection" physically, genetically, personality & speed will never be seen again. No man or horse comes close to the greatness of Secretariat. That's why he is still the most watched on youtube.
@rcschumann It's well documented that Lucien knew about Sec's abscess BEFORE the race but decided to run him anyway. That's the trainer's fault, not the horse. However, Sham also had two teeth ripped out in an accident at the gate in the Kentucky Derby, and still managed to run his ass off.
I have read and heard many pople say the very same thing about Secretariat's eyes. I've studied him and other horses, but I think there is something more than just a mere phrase "The Horse That God Build" (Secretariat) You're right about his eyes. I believe God himself touched this horse with something in the way of Love. He does it with some people, why not a horse. After all, he made them both. Many have talked about the eyes of Secretariat that could not be explained.
@evyn10014 Kelso equaled MOW Mile and 5 eighths in the some race mow set it. Kelso also holds the World record on dirt for 2 miles. In fact, he holds the 3 fastest times ever run on dirt for 2 miles. Prove ran the 4th fastest time for 2 miles
@bbmtge He didn't run till the triple crown was over! He won the JCGC on a sloppy track for 2 miles in world record time as a three year old. The 1959 horse of the year Bald Eagle ran a distant third. He was still horse of the year as a 3yr old. He holds the three fastest times for 2 miles. Prove Out holds the 4th. Why didn't Secretariat's people go after Prove Out in the JCGC? I would have!
Who keeps flagging this as spam? A little insecurity among Sec fans maybe? Man o War vs. the best of the best: He ran faster than Count Fleet (Bloodhorse #5) at 1 mile, 1 3/16 and 1 1/4; > than Citation (BH #3) at 1 mile, 1 1/16, & 1 3/16, > Kelso (BH #4) at 1 1/4 + same time at 1 5/8 with MOW restrained at end; > than Seattle Slew (BH #9) at 1 1/2, The Bid (BH #10) at 1 1/4, and Secretariat (BH #2) at 1 5/8ths. Official DRF times, comparing as 3 year olds. The greatest.
@rcschumann Secretariat's loss against Prove Out wasn't a fluke. He just had a bad day and got beat by a good horse that was better on that day. The others he might have been sick -- but if that's the case his trainer shouldn't have had him run. You know this is a fact. If you take the field, you're "healthy." It's the "rule" in all sports. And if Sec was sick it would have shown in his workouts -- so Lucien shouldn't have let him run.
@cmf4321 Kelso still holds the World Record on dirt for 2miles! He holds the 3 fastest times for 2 miles on the dirt. Prove Out holds the 4th fastest time.Kelso ran the mile and one half on grass in 2:23 &4fifths. Secretariat did it in 2:24. Secretariat went around 2 turns. Kelso went around 3 turns.
Well, there's not much racing footage of Man O' War that they can use for study, and of course, in Man O' War's time, motion picture cameras could not shoot enough frames per second to accurately duplicate real-life motion, which of course gave it that slightly jerky quality. Sorry, but science isn't the end-all be-all of everything. A horse can be a virtual machine, but does he have heart? Both Big Red's did, plus good confirmation. John Henry won solely on heart. It's all he had.
Zenyattam ran a 1 1/16 mile race with each quarter ran faster than the last. Thats 4 quarters. Secretariat ran 5 quarters. If Zenyatta ran the extra quarter she would had to run the last one in less than 22 3/5 to break Secretariat record. On the pace she was going .06 she would have ran the last quarter in 24 seconds. Secretariat last quarter was 23 flat.
@cf1934 First of all DRF 45 yr. veteran said the tracks of 1973 were perhaps 1 second faster. He seen both horses. He said Secretrariat faster, Secretariat better than MOW. You talk about Kelso thinking he was better than Secretariat. Well thats your opinion but I will go with Eddie Arcaro opinion the man that rode Kelso. He rated Secretariat the best he ever seen and the fastest.
Awesome video of an awe inspiring animal. Truly the most dominant thoroughbred of all time.
we love you Man O' War....you will never be forgotten...and everybody who agree's with me that he is the greatest race horse, like this video!!!

@cf1934 Agreed. Even rated at 4 or 5 doesn't give Kelso his due in my book... He ran amazing times at every distance. I'm a huge fan.
i read the book i love it
@evyn10014 How many horses can set a "World Record' on the dirt and then come back eleven days later and set an 'American Record on the grass?
And how about the Preakness & Belmont...Man O' War raced in both. Secretariat broke all three Triple Crown records. And still standing. It's now going on 37 years. I think that MOW was great but Secretariat was the true miracle of nature. As a horse, MOW was magnificent. I just think that Secretariat's "perfection" physically, genetically, personality & speed will never be seen again. No man or horse comes close to the greatness of Secretariat. That's why he is still the most watched on youtube.
Its "Tryouts" from Rudy
he was great
Is a movie about manowar avaliable
@ewd76 How many American or World records did she set?
They don't make horses like Big Red anymore
@rcschumann It's well documented that Lucien knew about Sec's abscess BEFORE the race but decided to run him anyway. That's the trainer's fault, not the horse. However, Sham also had two teeth ripped out in an accident at the gate in the Kentucky Derby, and still managed to run his ass off.
its from the football movie rudy! I don't know the name though but its from that soundtrack
Many have talked about the eyes of Secretariat that could not be explained.
may i ask u something..are u british ..or from the uk? or something? no one says smashing here in america..tehe
Did he really win a race by 100 lengths?
wow your lucky!!!
does she race?
=)
Lost for seabiscuit, but 😍
@evyn10014 Kelso equaled MOW Mile and 5 eighths in the some race mow set it.
I would have!
yup his stride length was 27 feet
...and Zenyatta just foaled out a colt yesterday....the Saga continues...
and my mare is his great great great great grandaughter :)
@cf1934 I love Kelso, and think he's a top 3 horse. And at that level they all have a good argument for being the best.
Would have been better if zenyatta had raced 21 times too:P
The greatest.
yeah it is him..pretty amazing right!!!! thanks for the comment
Afleet Alex is actually owned by my science teacher's inlaws :)
thanks
thank you for the correction
:) AA is my favorite!
@BigPetrov You should do the thinking with your brain instead of your heart.
Why cant I download to watch later ?
Kelso went around 3 turns.
thank you ♥
Well, there's not much racing footage of Man O' War that they can use for study, and of course, in Man O' War's time, motion picture cameras could not shoot enough frames per second to accurately duplicate real-life motion, which of course gave it that slightly jerky quality.
Sorry, but science isn't the end-all be-all of everything. A horse can be a virtual machine, but does he have heart? Both Big Red's did, plus good confirmation. John Henry won solely on heart. It's all he had.
Basically to train them so you can ride them
no stress at all. i'll get it for ya. just give me like an hour. i have to call someone out of state to ask them!
Zenyatta looks a LOT like Man O' War.
He rated Secretariat the best he ever seen and the fastest.
ditto!!!
