Steady Craftin videos are made with the help of DIRECT SUPPORT: www.patreon.com/steadycraftin (You'll also get access to the printable 3D scans of my original sculpted figures, MP3s, exclusive behind-the-scenes videos, shop discounts, and more.) My family and I are so grateful that I get to do this.
Y'all, this video didn't end up 100% how I wanted, due to working on two videos at once, and accidentally deleting the last few clips I shot for this video, while working on the NEXT video. BUT I think there's still enough here to get across how roto-casting works. Here are some examples of where you might use this: - Vinyl Style Figures - Helmets (Make a mold of your helmet sculpt, then use the mold to roto-cast the hollow plastic helmet) - Speaker Housings (Or other electronic housings) - Any large object where solid resin would make it too expensive or too heavy.
I think it was great :) besides, I like that you show us imperfect things - it's honestly a breath of fresh air. Thank you for publishing this video today! I can't even tell you how much I needed this .. you brighten my day like no other TH-cam channel can. ❤️❤️❤️
CrafsMan next time you have a bit of cranial flatulence, a utility call photorec can most times get data back from formatted SD cards. It has saved my tail more than once.
I think your video was perfect because of the imperfections. The Japanese call it Wabi-Sabi and it is sometimes described as beauty that is "imperfect, impermanent, and incomplete." Perfection is stressful, so don't stress Crafsman, your video has everything needed to share your ideas.
When I was small and complaining to my mom that I was bored, she'd tell me interesting people find interesting things to do .... you are the perfect example of her words :)
Nice! Thats a great quote, your mom's a smart woman : ) I hope i can remember it so i can tell it to my 10 year old daughter as she complains of boredom just about every day o_O My dad would just make us do yard work if we complained of boredom. Free manual labor Lol
Smooth-on should support or sponsor this channel for sure. Let’s get this post to the top so Smooth-on can see how many of us want to Stay Steady Caftin!
I ain't gonna lie. Craft man seem to even turn us adults in to big kids. Like the days we would wait for out favorite TV shows come on and sitting on the floor legs folded with a bowl of cereal.
CrafsMan, you are such a wonderful, gentle, silly, person. I love the way you teach. It's so inspiring and engaging. I wish you all the success in the world with your channel and in your life. :D
youngest kid and I have discussed many times how wonderful it would be to have you as a neighbor; you're a joy and an honorable man, Crafsman. much love and respect to you
I've had this really unique light bulb for years. I found it some random place. I keep wanting to use it in a mixed media project...the head for a puppet.. But once i use it? It's GONE!! now I can use your FANTASTIC video and make dozens of bulbs!!!! Soooo excited! Thank you Craftsman! 😍💡💡💡😀
I showed your Vids to a friend here in Ireland and he says you sound like your about to nod off. That's half the attraction I told him. On it's own it wouldn't mean much without your excellent ingenuity, creativity and very obvious love for what you do. You're an everyday inspiration freind, please & always keep it up. I'll send you one of my own figures soon 👍.
Awesome video, I love that you try new things and post the results instead of rehearsing everything first. We learn a lot by watching different approaches and finding things we like about each one. You know, it probably wouldn't be too hard to build a small rotational casting rig out of Lego Technic sets. Now they even have a lot of different Lego motors you could use instead of a crank.
I was thinking of building one myself, just cause it's COOL ! LOL ! Thanks for the reminder of those 'technic' by Lego ! I also would live to try to make the Rotating Solar System that was in the Dark Crystal.......(there is a term for it, can't remember !)
Your voice is so soothing I could listen to you talk all day I just really like how you present your stuff without being too loud or yelling like other youtubers do
CrafsMan, every time I watch one of your videos I am always inspired to create. They remind me of the joy of learning something new. They make me wanna try things out, not for a perfect result, but for experience and joy of creation. Keep on trucking my man!
Oh Wow! I thought you were going to be gone for a while!!! Glad you changed your mind. You say but all the time, "KEEP STEADY.....STEADY, crafting! I am going to get my cup of coffee and enjoy your work. Thank you!
what we know about crafsman so far: He lives in mississippi close to a Freds Dollar store, and he has a PhD In Mechanical Engineering. That machine is awesome Crafsman!
You can also drill a small hole in the bottom of the bulb and wire in an LED. This way, you can have it light up while still in the mech-suit. Love your videos!
Love your style Mr. Crafsman. Easy listening kind of voice. Plus I learn something crafy every time I stop by. I love how you are not afraid to jump in and try new products and new ideas. Bye for now.
Crafsman! So I finally got my video together on making my miniature game room and I am happy with at least the gameroom itself. I noted you as one of the two inspirations for the project up front so people would know where they can get that inspiration from. I definitely styleized a lot of parts of the project. I wanted them to look like what they were but in a stylized kinda way so I could hide my mistakes a bit easier. What a load of fun! Thank you very much!
I woke up with vertigo today and was too dizzy to keep working on my projects. I thought laying in bed watching a crafsman video isnt the worst way to spend a friday morning, but then watching that machine spin made me dizzy all over again. Woops
Thanks for the inspiration Crafsman! I've been making my own silicone molds for custom action figure heads the last couple weeks with Smooth-On. I've been gradually trying out a bunch of the products you use and using up some older stuff my wife had. I've had more successes than failures but it's always fun to try something new and the work towards improving projects. Be well and be safe!
Always looking forward to your next video. One of things I actually enjoy is how the ambient sounds make it into the videos, like rain or a distant train. :) Pro tip on glowing objects. If you really want to super-charge something quickly, you can hit them with a blue laser. It's close enough to UV wavelength that it will make what ever you hit with it really glow.
You have enough sense to try things Crafsman & that's literally the only sense you need! How you gonna learn if you don't try and by trying you learning. Cause by doing is making it happen and by not doing you ain't haha. Best motto I live by is; "If you say you Can't you Won't! If you say you Can then you Will !" 😁👌
I stumbled on to you channel and watched all your videos. You are great, simple, humble and very smart. I can't wait to see what you will do next. I thi k your channel is due to take off. Smooth on should sponsor you. Any way the next time a video comes up I will watch it as soon as it drops.
thank you for your videos, crafsman. I've been going through a really rough time lately and watching your videos helps me keep going. I appreciate your creativity and positivity very much. I hope you always have lots of fun doin what you do.
If you have a UV light, it's fun just to turn off all lights and go around the house looking through all the drawers and stuff with it. Some plastic lights up bright, things that appear to be the same color come out completely different. Even vinyl records can have cool patterns showing etc. You can get cheap purple-lookin UV lights from China, apparently they're used to detect scorpions at night.
Hi Craftsman, if you ever need to add a bit of extra time to your silicone mixing (mainly just platinum silicone) you can refrigerate it. Keep up the awesome work.
you could make all kinds of different color light bulbs like that and string them together with LED lights strands and make like camping/yard lights out of them would be pretty cool
i love you and your videos they are my favorite thing to watch when i need to relax and get rid of anxiety. they really help me fall asleep to your voice is so soothing !
Every time I am about to ask Crafsman a question, He goes an answers it before I can type it in here. Except for this one: how you do that, Crafsman? Got you there. Love you back, M
Love it! I made one exactly like this from clear resin and lit it with a small Paper-Balloon LED that I glued into the stem of the bulb. Was perfect scale for a 1:6th scale action figure.
I love ur channel it has a rustic tea by the fire vibe and i love it so much and i wish the best for u and ur wife i also hope to see more action figures in the future
That contraption was neat. I dig the glowing bomb guy. I’ll bet you could add color LEDs to the clear one for a neat effect. Still glad I support this channel.
I love seeing the amount of patreon supporters grow with each video :^) you totally deserve the support for your amazing content. For me, each video feels like a small pocket of positivity and fun and learning, and they definitely always improve my mood!
It is amazing what comes out of your head. You just make me want to build a shop and get to work (play). Next time you do a light bulb, maybe use less resin and insert an led inside.
I’ve watched all crafsman’s videos 4 times each and I love em so much they are so fun for some reason even though I don’t work with silicone or anything else he does👍

The cool thing was you could swap the heads, torsos and legs around because the molds were interlocking pieces so they snapped together. I almost totally forgot about it...I used to have a little desk next to my dad's workbench and he would mix up some plaster for me to make them after I ran out of the mix stuff. You could add food coloring or paint them afterwards. :)

I just love that quote d robyn. May I share your mothers wisdom?
My mom had a similar saying, she would say only boring people sit around and complain about being bored.
“If you’re bored, then you’re boring” -Harvey Danger, Flagpole Sitta
Nice! Thats a great quote, your mom's a smart woman : )
I hope i can remember it so i can tell it to my 10 year old daughter as she complains of boredom just about every day o_O

Crafsman, you are a national treasure, you know that?
Crafsman, you are the most wholesome person on the planet. Your videos make me happy whenever I watch them. Thank you for this channel.

I was pretty excited to discover it myself! Helps a lot when soldering little characters with multiple joints at once. :)
@@TheCrafsMan it's way better than the little RadioShack one I've been using.

These videos really help my anxiety and they are so wholesome.

Hope the next 2 days were great, too ! Have been known to rewatch Crafsman videos on "less then optimal" days ! ;)

Your content quality has gone waayyy up Crafsman. Big ups 👌👌
Aww, you're too kind. Thank you! I feel like this is one of the least well put-together videos of mine, though. :/
This reminds me of the Snoopy's Mighty Model Maker I had in the early 80s. That would roto cast plaster versions of the Peanuts gang. It was a little messy but worked well.
Oh jeez I remember that. I had a kit, not rotocasting, but you could cast these monsters and animals with some powdered mix stuff it came with. :)
