MJ did it on BOTH ends of the court. He got a DPOTY, while also getting a scoring title, led the league in steals 3x, was the fastest to 100 steals & 100 blocks by a guard, and had 9 all defensive first team selections.
Because of rules changes & play style changes throughout the years, you pretty much have to break down the GOATS into their respective eras.
Like LBJ is the goat of this era, MJ was the goat of his era, Kareem was the goat of his era, etc…

@@Femitoodrippy I'm a fan of both MJ and Lebron. I've had the privilege of seeing both live - Lebron mulitple times.
Basketball is simple. Score the basket. Stop your other opponents from scoring. Jordan played 13 seasons with the Bulls (13 minus second season with broken foot and more than half the season he was playing baseball)
11.5 seasons. 10 scoring titles, 9 All Defensive First Teams meaning he was the best defender at his position. This included leading the league in steals 3x - stopping other teams possessions.
Xs and Os - Jordan could be ball dominant and play off ball in a system like the triangle. lebron is a tremendous talent but he can’t play in a system. He dribbled the ball for 15 seconds for a pick and roll for a weak defender then drives for a layup or a pass to a shooter. With Lebron he never plays well with a point guard cause he needs the ball. He can’t play with true bigs cause he needs the paint open. Bigs become catch and shoot guys.
And as a fan, I cannot explain Lebron disappearing against Boston in 2010 and Dallas in 2011. In his second year, gm2 against Boston MJ wanted to be on the line to hit clutch free throws to send it into overtime with a chance to win. Also the final 3-peat - he played all 82 games all three of those years. His last year with the Wizards - he played all 82 games. He never cheated anyone who paid to see him.
That’s why between the two I’d say Jordan.

And Steph has 4 rings in what is suppose to be Lebron's era....Tell me how that works? How twisted is the mind that has Lebron at 1 and Steph at 10? MJ gets 6 titles in the team he was drafted to....Kobe 5, Magic 5, Tim Duncan 5, Steph 4. It's a pity Lebron never stayed in Cleveland, just by going to Miami without winning one disqualifies him from GOAT conversation, even Giannis got one in the team he was drafted by and before year 10.

In 19 seasons you've never seen bron catch half the amount of body's at the rim jordan got in 13 seasons. Bron got Cleveland a ring, cool. But Jordan turned Chicago from dumpster to dynasty...2 3peats in 8 yrs and never had to leave or recruit other players...bron had 8 straight trips to the finals on superteams and couldn't 3peat once....the comparison is not even close. It's actually an insult to compare bron to jordan. You'll never see a player 3peat, retire in his prime, comeback and 3peat again, never see a game 7 in the finals... that will likely never happen again in the NBA as long as it exist... nobody has ever dominated this game like MJ did. He's in a class of his own. The 🐐..period.

I dont really get the Lebron argument at all. Individually, he doesn’t have the same tools MJ did. He is not a very good mid range shooter and MJ was the most lethal especially during the 2nd 3peat. If you analyze LBJ’s FG%, most of his shots came from within 3 feet from the basket. Even with most of his shots as dunks and layups, his FG% is just a hair better than Jordan. LBJ had 0 scoring titles to support his argument as a better offensive force than MJ. Bron is clearly not a good free throw shooter while MJ was very good considering all the contact he’s had to deal with. Bron is a volume assist guy. He’s not a trick passer like Magic or Nash was. MJ from the video was clearly a good passer if he needed to be. In terms of defense, MJ had so much accolades than Bron. MJ was always relentless on defense and never rested on defense like Lebron.
I’m not even going to talk about finals records because its clearly in favor of MJ. I’ve never heard of a GOAT who has a losing record. I dont understand why LBJ can bypass greats like Kareem or even Duncan who had better careers. Like what the guy in the video said, he had so much advantages in terms of training, nutrition, etc. and Bron still fell short.
Secondly, the argument that the 2016 warriors is greater than the 96 bulls is the same as the argument that Lebron is greater than Jordan because he was in the finals 10 times. Both did not see it through to the end. They had an opportunity to topple the GOAT and his team but they were not good enough. Otherwise, their arguments would have made sense and not just based on conjecture or what ifs. The facts remain that whether individually or team accomplishments, there is no contest.
Lastly, the only thing that Lebron can do to beat MJ is to be a better team owner than him because the latter is terrible as such. Its too late to try and surpass him as a player unless he has a time machine.

Listen. I'm in my late 40's. I have played a TON of basketball in my life. Open gyms, parks, I'd be in 4 or 5 different leagues during prime basketball season. I say this not to "toot my own horn", or relive my "glory days", so save your disparaging comments like that. I say that so you know I've played and watched my fair share of basketball. So, I watched Michael his whole career. Also, I'm from the Cleveland area and MJ killed us more times that you can count. Conversely being from the Cleveland area, I've heard all about LeBron since he was in Jr. high and watched his entire career and very much enjoyed the 2016 Championship LeBron brought Cleveland. Having hated MJ for how he destroyed our teams and LeBron giving us a championship... I would unequivocally say that MJ is the GOAT. You crack me up with your stopping the video and say, "oh that's like when Vince Carter did this", or "that reminds me of Steph Curry doing that".. where do you think all those guys got that from?? Why do you think guys like Kobe and LeBron grew up idolizing MJ?? If social media was around when MJ played... there would be statues and shrines all over the country for this guy. Actually watching his career and watch a 20 minute "highlight" clip are definitely 2 very different things. It's not your fault, you only know what you know. You grew up with LeBron and that's what you've seen most of so it's hard to imagine anyone better. I'm sure that's the same as me growing up with MJ and all the old timers at the time saying "Oscar Robertson was better"... or "He ain't got nothing on Wilt"... and I thought that was crazy of them to say. But take it from people who have actually seen BOTH of their careers play out and is from Cleveland area where LeBron is King. MJ is GOAT. MJ averaged 30 in his day...? He would have averaged 50 in today's NBA. No blood, no foul was real back then. Hand checking (or grabbing) was a thing. You had enforcers on teams that their sole job was to inflict pain and protect the paint. You went down the lane and a price was to be paid.

Lebron having the higher stat totals simply boils down to more games played. Yes longevity is obviously a plus, but when talking numbers it has to be mentioned in context. Lebron took far more games than MJ to amass those same numbers. Also, with the whole longevity thing, all athletes from this generation are going to play longer than those of past eras simply because of the advances in medicine and science. There’s a reason Lebron is still able to play at the level he does at his age, Brady the same and countless others. So much emphasis on taking care of your body now, and so much more tech and equipment to help you

I mean Levron has missed over 3 seasons in his career so let's not inflate or durability too much.
Players back then rarely missed a game even with injuries. They didn't have a massive pool of rookies and international players that play on a week-long contract.

Michael Jordan's most underrated physical attribute is his abnormally large hands. His 'predicted height' based on his hand size is close to 8 feet tall. Relatively close in height; Kawhi Leonard and Dr. J. have similarly disproportionately large hands, but they are an inch or 2 taller and a little 'stiffer.' The combination of hand size, body control, coordination, and vertical jumping (maybe in that order) is what makes the Jordan hangtime illusion.

It was clear in your face that you were struggling with your emotions and chose to not admit that you believed Jordan was the GOAT after watching this. Your EMOTIONS are with Lebron. Those are the facts. And I'm not a person that argues Jordan or Lebron as the GOAT. There are at least 3 GOATs to me that can be argued either way.
Oh, and I'd rather have 5 people who are a master at their positions rather than 5 people who are 70% good at each position. So that argument about mastery vs versatility only holds up in certain circumstances. That is one reason why it's impossible to argue who is the one and only GOAT.

MJ is 10x the player Bron could ever dream to be, but is not the clear cut "GOAT"! It took him 7 years to learn how to win, other came onto NBA being the leaders and creating a winning culture form day 1! All this nonsense that MJ played with crackheads and alcoholics is a joke! He played with NBA players, but was NOT able to get them to come together as a team. That is 99% on him. Lebron is even worse, he needed to create a superteam to compete for a title. MJ had to take what he was given to "earn" his rings.
P.S. Having a prime Pippen and adding Dennis Rodman was unfair to the rest of NBA at the time. Rodman did everything (the best ever) that MJ didn't!

Jordan had a 48" vertical, tied for highest ever in the NBA, ran a 4.2 (fastest ever), and was mentally stronger than anyone that's played the game. All of that, and we haven't even talked about basketball yet. Do you think LeBron would last as long as he had if he had to go up against the Celtics, Pistons, and dudes like Malone (who would have no trouble physically handling LeBron every time he tried to go into the paint)?
Props for having an open mind, doing your research, and coming to your own conclusions, even if I disagree with them. Keep applying and honing that skill in everything you do in life, and you'll be remembered as a wise man. I've never met two people that agree on 100% of everything. So if I, you, and society can accept that reality and work towards living in harmony and basic human respect for one another despite our differences, we'll leave the earth better than we found it.
I'm a firm believer in the theory that more diversity makes for a more robust intellectual institution. If you have one person standing in a fixed spot on any given side of a house, they won't be able to tell you what all 4 sides look like.

The reason LeBron has Jordan beat in longevity stats is because LeBron played about 18 "full" seasons compared to 13 "full" seasons for MJ. And even with that advantage, Jordan is still top 5 all time in TWO major statistical categories: scoring (5th) and steals (3rd). And all the people who are ahead of Jordan in each of those categories played 18 seasons minimum.
LeBron is top 5 all time in only one statistical categor (so far): scoring (2nd).

the reason they are more "versatile" is because they removed most of the contact and defensive focus of the game. If you reintroduced those two things into today's NBA, all of that versatility and/or talent would no longer be there. One could easily make the argument it took MORE talent and versatility to play in an era of contact and where defense not only was a larger part of the game, but would actually build teams that made it it's focus.

You should do a reaction video on the “The Greatest Goat Comparison” by Dangerous Productions. He truly breaks down the debate and puts all stats into context. I personally believe what is missing when analyzing the two is putting their comparable stats and accomplishments into context of the era, they played, the level of competition, and what the difference is between longevity ( playing longer) and being a better player (how dominant they where at their peaks) along with how long their peaks lasted. This comparison does all of that and gives average fans context to make an informed decision on who was the better player.

Lebron career package will never look like this when he is done. Lebron has no MOVES! Just athletic, passing and reading offense and defense. Jordan is the total package and clutch. Both ends no one goes harder than Jordan and Giannas (both ends) most of the game. Lebron has defense plays but never goes that hard in the game both ends. Just play the blame and care about what others are doing. Naw Jordan that dude. Pass me the ball and get out the way. His mentality for winning is why is 6-0 in the FINALS. Not about who had. As long as there were 10 people on the court, MJ was the best one played like it and showed up and NEVER cared about SENSELESS STATS!!!

“Jordan’s team got to the semi finals after he left”. In reality, they went from NBA Champions to winning a single playoff round that year - 7 other teams won at least a single round that year too. When Jordan left the Bulls in 93/94, the team was still in tact. When Leflop leaves teams he leaves carnage behind - teams that have traded away the their future for a bunch of rentals. Lets also remember that all of those records Leflop has set have been set in an era where it is much less physical and much easier to both score and get to the rim. 3’s were just not a main part of the offence in Jordan’s era yet he has a higher seasonal PPG average than any player other than Wilt Chamberlain at 37.1 PPG, and he set that in a season where he shot than 1 triple attempt per game and had a 3pt shooting average below 20%. You talk about versatile because a 7’er can pull up and take a 3, but how about the guy that was a rim attacker when he came into the league, converted himself to one of the best jump shooters in the game, became a brilliant post player despite being only 6’6” and was a hugely under rated passer as he recorded a triple double 10 out of the 11 games Doug Collins had him playing point guard in the 88/89 season. People give Leflop credit for being diverse - he’s a bad FT shooter, he’s an awful defender most of the time, his shooting percentage outside of 3’ is below 38% (Jordan shot almost 42% from beyond 3’ playing for the Wizards as a 40 year old).

Michael Jordans legacy is without question better, as for LeBron? He only wins the longevity arguement cause of modern technology and medicines. People that LeBron goes against? They dont even play defense this gen, and LeBron cant even raise his FT % into the 80s for a decade+ now. LeBron is uncoachable and is playing GM, and Jordan does not lead the NBA in turnovers.

Some of your comments, I just have to shake my head. You are worried about MJ's jump shot release, when he's hands down the best midrange shooter of all time. He took twice the amount that Reggie Miller did during a late 90's season, and made 50% of his jumpers that year. Meanwhile Lebron is a career sub .400 shooter beyond 3ft. But in the "weak" era he gets six layups a night so no one notices.
And about James spending money on his body: if he played in the 90's he'd make 3-5 million a year and would spend a fraction of that amount. And I know he has a cool looking body and all, but if he tried to play the four against Malone or Barkley for example, he'd get ragdolled to the moon in the post. They wouldn't even notice him. Having a free lane and gathering speed from half court when no one can't touch you is cool, but James couldn't even solve the corpse of Shawn Marion guarding him when Dallas kept Chandler in the lane the whole series. Anyone who brings up James in the GOAT conversation after that series has no idea what they are talking about. Standards are too high and just because they make the game even easier for you after that, you don't get extra GOAT points for longevity. And even that title belongs to Kareem. Jabbar has 6 MVP's and 6 titles, he was the Finals MVP at age 38 and did it while making a million a year and flying coach. That's like playing 30 seasons now.. And Kareem had a ton of more competition at his position than Lebron.

Sorry, but as a person that is from Chicago and has watched MJ from the beginning, I have to tell you that MJ WOULD NOT have struggled in this era....at all. He was way ahead of his time with his style of play. That is why he made guys look like they were standing still. Listen to all of the legends that played against him. This era of ball works in MJ's favor. A prime MJ was EXTREMELY quick. MJ of the late 80s would jump out of the gym. The MJ of the 1990s became a smarter player. Don't forget, MJ played with the Wizards in the early 2000s. Even then, he was STILL putting up numbers! MJ has an exceptionally high basketball IQ. You don't think having that, along with extreme competitiveness coupled with an almost psychotic killer instinct wouldn't put him in the highest ranks?
The reason why you have so many of us coming at you young folks is that
1.) Most of you do not know or study Michael's career in depth, then you make assessments based on little to no information.
2.) Those of us that were around to see MJ play KNOW what he's done and are SHOCKED when we hear such outrageous claims.
3.) Many of you cannot except that maybe the greatest player ever WAS NOT in your era.
**You may have seen Lebron or Kobe do those moves, but WHERE do you think they came from?? So when I hear you say that, I just think you are finding a way to minimize what MJ was doing. To me, that's just being petty. The fact that reactors like yourself don't know WHY he wore the number 45 pretty much makes my case that you don't know his career well enough to be critical.
Warriors had 73-9, but what happened to them in the finals??
73-9 is cool, but 72-10 has a RING to it...

No. Also, back in the 70s, 80s, and 90s, you had to be a MAN to withstand the rigors of the NBA. Now we have this flopping, limp-wristed brand of basketball where one guy dribbles down the court and the other 4 stand around outside the 3 point line. Even the pick-and-roll is becoming more rare. Everybody just wants to shoot 3s. Back in the day you could get close-lined and the refs would look at you and laugh. Now, you might get a flagrant 2 for giving an opponent the side-eye. I hope they keep Kleenex tissues at the scorer's table for all the crying.🤣 I'm pretty sure Lebron could have played during those early eras, BUT he would NOT be dominant vs a prime Shaq, Wilt, Moses, Maurice Lucas, Dave Cowens, Unseld, Olajuwon, Barkley, the BAD Boys of Detroit, Magic, Boston's Big 3, and many, MANY more.

What made MJ great were his actual skills. His footwork was immaculate, his movement without the ball was so effective. The way he dismissed double teams was brilliant. And he did it all with fluidity and grace. MJ could go on a massive scoring run any time he wanted, but there were also times where his scoring was so spaced out and within the offense that you'd be surprised at the end of the game just how much he scored. This is how proficient he was : In his last year with the Bulls, MJ averaged holding the ball for just 3 mins 45 seconds per game and still scored a little under 30 a game. So each quarter he held the ball for just a little over 56 seconds. Incredible. MJ dominated in the toughest defensive era in NBA history.

    Dear Steve Urkel,
One thing that this video does not display is Michael's triple threat pull up shot. He could go full speed right, left, or straight ahead with the ability to pull up on a dime. His triple threat combined with his first step made him unstoppable during 84-93.
If you pay attention to Lebron's game, he always goes left and likes to drift left on his jump when shooting. Lebron is great, but he has no pull up as a go to move. And do not forget free throws: The man has air balled free throws (3) times as a Laker.
The only thing that you got right was Wizards MJ. Wizards MJ was painful to watch and so are you.

  • @JethNova143
    @JethNova143 ปีที่แล้ว +9

You mentioned how people are more versatile in this era.
That is true, and it has its pros and cons.
A positionless era in basketball is good in terms of the element of surprise, but it also makes the league uniform and stale since no one has a specialty anymore.
It's also really rare for players to succeed without focusing a lot of effort into mastering their own style of play.
Curry, Giannis and LeBron all have different styles of play unique to them which makes them both exciting to watch and successful in winning games.
So having the more "predictable" position-based era in Jordan's career isn't exactly a bad thing.
And in terms of talent, I believe the past and present eras are equal.
    Just different.
No one rebounds or plays defense the same way Rodman does anymore.
Does that mean this era is less talented in defense than Rodman's era?
    No.
These players from different eras are just built different for different games.

Anyone can fly a plane after someone shows them how to. You keep seeing you've seen lebron do it but the difference is no one was doing the things Jordan was doing before him. He invented what most players have practiced their whole lives knowing was possible. The greats elevate the game to a new level that before them people didn't realize was possible. That's what Jordan did. TBH that's what Steph has done.

You made a great point. But to add, when he said that he's said seen Lebron do the things Jordan did, there's not much of it. The "creativeness" that Jordan brought to identify his game is something I've never seen in Lebron nor the moves that this youngster has claimed. A couple of them, yeah but not frequent or a regular to say the least. James' way of playing basketball is rather stiff and a lot of the versatility that people claim he has is a but exaggerated. Jordan was ahead of his time and would continue to do so if he were to play in any era. Not only because of his adaptation characteristic, but his standard of playing/pacing is beyond any player or era we have seen.

His role on the bulls was to score. In the 88-89 season he played as a point guard and had a triple double in 7 straight games. (LeBron has never done that.) out of the 11 games he played as a facilitator, 10 of those were triple doubles. He averaged 32ppg 11asts 10reb that month. So it’s not like he was un capable of being all-around, his role was to score & simultaneously lock up the opposition. He’s the only player in league history to have a season with 100+ blocks & 200+ steals. He did that twice. Just keep your mind open, see things for what they are. You’ll see the truth.

you are correct. but that's not all his role was. he was also to fill in where they were lacking. if they needed more rebounds, he got more, if they needed more assists, he got more. Jordan was far more of a complete player than he's given credit for cause his skill at scoring was so kuch higher than everyone else so that's all they focus on.

The thing everyone who touts Lebron’s passing ability over Jordan seems to forget is that Jordan was a great passer - as you say, when he played point guard for 11 games, he got 10 triple doubles, but even as a shooting guard he handled the ball more than the point guard, the problem is when you pass the ball and get it back, nobody records it.

Jordan wasnt washed up in the Wizards. He was really still putting up good states. The team chemistry was totally new. Basically one of the weaknesses of Lebron. Even though hes a team player than a scorer. But he was always trying to find a team with the best lineup but the chemistry wasnt there no matter how much elite players is in his team. During Jordans time with the Bulls. Even though Jordan was a scorer. He had many years to cultivate and understand his teammates and tailor the team to his play style. They uplifted each other to become greater players as time went by. Lebron is too impatient and as soon as there is an opening to get into a team with a better lineup of names. Lebron also had no blood and thunder type attitude to want to defeat the best out there. Instead choose the easy way. Find a team of dominant players and join them. He joins to get a super team. While Jordan cultivated a super team over years with the exception of the addition of Dennis Rodman. Then you talk about people of Lebrons era. They have more lenient rule sets. And even the best out there say with all the rules set before him. He can score even more easily compared to what he had to go against. All the greats say he would easy put up 50 points a game in todays league and you say the players today on another level? YOUR era people are even allowed to travel much less hand check.

Theres no shame on being a Lebron fan. There is no shame in Lebron or anyone else being your favorite player, hell Larry Bird is my favorite of all time, but that doesnt mean he is the GOAT. Lebron has longevity....which will give him the end up stats. Take Lebrons best 15 years and i am willing to bet they dont beat MJ's numbers for his career. Ontop of that I just cant stress enough that MJ...actually played both sides of the court...he played damn near every single game. Compared to Lebron that refuses to play defense in most of his games because he doesnt have the stamina to go ham on both sides of the court. Lebron doesnt want to guard the best guy, or have the best guy guard him. MJ DEMANDED this. Again there is nothing wrong with loving Lebron, just look at him for what he is not what you glaze him up to be. Same goes for Jordan fans, he wasnt a god that made every shot and won every game

@@cano21 How can you measure lebron's strength in this era? By his muscles? By his look at me workout videos? There's no big men to give him a little second thought when waltzing into the lane. He handles the ball so much that most likely he'll find some smaller match up and take advantage by running said smaller player over to a wide open basket. He doesn't bang for rebounds and he doesn't post up. Yeah he's strong but he doesn't take full advantage of it. Jordan, while having a different body type than James, was known to be very strong especially as he got older. But he used his strength advantage. Finishing over 2, 3, 4 guys in the paint is a sign of being very strong. Getting hammered and still finishing is a sign. Posting up and guards can't move you off your spot is a sign.

Mj is the greatest midrange shooter of all time. Lebron shoots 37% outside of 3 feet. MJ was a better finisher in a league where the paint was congested and full of bigs. Lebron is a great finisher but its not the same for obvious reasons. Jordan was a better defender and had 9 trible doubles in 11 games shooting 50% when he played pg for a few games. He did everythnig and played harder, top 3 all time defender. In todays league his skills would be even more enhanced if he could bring the ball up and have no 1 at the rim

Mj retired from the bulls at 37, lebron is 37 now. I wonder if you're going to want to include LeBrons field goal percentages going forward. Dude, lebron literally shoots 37% from midrange, in his prime, Mj shot over 51%. Just think about that how terrible 37% is compared to 50, its a different league.
When you compare eras you gotta imagine then playing in the same game. Youve seen mjs highlights, the way he manuevers between multiple heads in the paint. IN todays league with no one in there(where lebron makes majority of his buckets) thats money, and hed be a way above 3Pt shooter cause why wouldnt he be? He would actually practice it. Hes the greatest mid range shooter in history. Shot over 40% as a injury riddle shell of himself on the wizards, still better then lebrons prime numbers. Also, lebron is below average 3Pt shooter in a era where its a big part of the game, where jordan was average when it wasnt, he shot like 1 a game.
League is soft, they literally changed the rules to add more offense. Harden averaged 37, jordan would average more and be the best defender on floor. And more rebounds and assists because of the way the game is played now
