Hi Guys, this is Laz Here! In this video we are going to do a quick tech review and play around with an affordable 4K action camera.
With the sudden release of yet another go pro , the gopro hero 10 , the competition is seemingly catching up , giving the action cam market a bit of a well-needed shake up ! Giving out no spoilers, I just want to say, I was pleasantly surprised, how much a £100 -( just under a hundred pounds actually) can get you in 2021 ! Of course the gopro , the DJI , the insta360 cameras are still leading the playing field, they might not be able to justify charging you for all those little gopro mods mounts & accessories one by one for much longer...
You will see me do all kinds of things with this little 4K cam - I included raw footage, edited sample videos, slow -motion clips, time-lapse , underwater shots, videos recorded at 4K with 30fps , 2K with 60 frames per second , HD (1080 pixels) at 90 fps , you get the idea !

Great video, thanks for sharing. Can you elaborate on the color adjustments you made. I love the GoPro vivid colors but returned the hero 10 because the battery life was so low. Can you add a cpl filter or post editing to enhance the colors, is that what you did in the review?
Hi there Dave,
All the colour adjustments you see here, I added in post - we use Premiere Pro. Nothing advanced though: I thinkered with the black & white values and pushed up the saturation a little bit - that's all I think! All the edited bits are marked as you can see on my footage.
I really wanted to showcase the capabilities of the camera on 'normal/neutral' settings, with minimal editing, just so people can make their own judgement in terms of how good this cam is. Hope this helps! 👌Laz

Lovely review thank you. I'm not overly tech savy but will be taking my cam along with me during the winter months for a short work related informative video. I drive a gritting truck and want to use my head mount accessory to show the viewers my cab windows so they can see the difficulties I face during my route, which in northern England can consist of many tight roads and big hills. I'm wondering how the camera will perform during day and night and whether the colours will be ok enough to clearly see what I'm doing. Any post filming tips for editing would be most gracefully recieved.

as I said in the vid, the camera is pretty good bang for your buck, although, we can't expect miraculously good footage for this price unfortunately. I have tried and tested the camera since I made this video quite a bit - there are a bunch of travel vlogs on our channel, which you can check out to see how the akaso performed.
We live in the UK as well, and I must say, the footage recorded in cloudy/rainy Cambridge is obviously not as nice and crisp as the footage on our Mauritius-travel video - surprise surprise haha
General rule of thumb, I tend to up the colour saturation settings a notch as well as the exposure settingsever so slightly, once I am in the house and I do my editing in Premiere Pro.

Hi there, yeah, as you would expect, the footage this thing records in low light is not exactly mind blowing, but with a bit of colour grading, you can get away with a lot 😄 we have a travel playlist on our channel, if you wanna see some examples of what I mean: when we went to Cambridge, the weather was rather cloudy on certain days: th-cam.com/video/NseS1A6wH2o/w-d-xo.html check it out , it might give you an idea👍 Laz
I bought my V50X about a year ago and I love it. For the price, it has good picture quality. I mainly use mine as a bird cam and driving scenes. I do have a question if you can help. When I playback the video the voices sound normal but when I go to a video editor I get chipmunk voices. Can you help me out with that?
It's a great little camera, although as I mentioned in the video, I think the audio it records on its own is one of its biggest disadvantages - unusable 'noise' what I am getting, I don't even try editing the sound - so I dont know, to be honest! An external mic can get you better results (even recording on your phone is miles better!) Sorry if this is not much help!👀Laz
Great review. I bought a V50X and so far far, I'm very happy with it. I have a couple questions about the camera that I hope you can answer. I've noticed that it records each scene in three formats, MP4, LRV, and THM (still photo). I don't need the LRV and THM. Is it possible to have the camera only record in the MP4 format? Also, the date shows up in the upper left corner of my videos, even though I have the Date Stamp turned OFF in Settings. Is this normal?
Hi, yes the THM files I also get, just some system files the camera makes, but no-one would ever need - I have yet to find a way to turn that off... The date stamp, now that is strange; maybe format your SD card, & then see if you can record without it being on your videos! Hope that helps, fingers crossed 🤞Laz

Hello. I just got the V50X but wanted to use 2.7K/30FPS and it's only recording at 15FPS. I think it may be a defect but have you also tried 2.7K/30? Any issues?
Sounds like a defect, when I put the resolution to 2.7k, it records at 30fps. It might worth contacting akaso's customer support, if your camera doesn't do that.
Does it beep when you turn it on? I'd like to use this as a bow mounted hunting camera but obviously I'm worried about noise when starting to record. Thanks.
All the system sounds can be turned off, as far as I'm aware👍
Please how u can add a font style to my video. What is your font style and what edit program you use 😢! I’m making a 10 minutes Vedic for my master thesis challenge’s story , your videos enrich me but I’m still learning everything at the moment audio, lighting, action camera , but I in mind such font you use , please advise
Hey there, we tend to vary what fonts we use in our videos - but I think the two main ones you see here are, 'harvey script' and 'LuzSans Book'. Since I'm a graphic designer, sometimes I tweak these fonts myself in Adobe illustrator, to get something unique & custom made for my titles. Oh and for video editing I use Adobe premiere Pro. Does that answer your questions? Hello, good review bro. I got the Akaso V50X for Christmas, and so far, I am happy with the results. I did not want a Go Pro, only because I am not an adventurer and don't do many extreme things. I wanted the camera to do some basic videos and be able to edit them. I have shot some videos with my dog, and so far, it's been good. And as you said, a camera for less or close to US$100 is all I wanted to pay for.

I'm surprised you didn't include an audio sample like everybody else. I got my v50x on July 13. The built-in microphone is pretty good. The speaker on the camera itself sucks. Playing videos back on a computer the audio is fine even without having to turn the volume way up. 1080 at 60 FPS is REALLY good on this camera.
I agree. Audio playback on camera is rubbish, but on laptop is really good. Was considering buying external mic, but I don't think I need it
Hi there, great review - I normally use it '1080p60fps' for my skateboarding, which is ok but what resolution would you recommend?
For me, image resolution is the most important thing when I record with this, so I always keep it at 4K - I dont really need 60fps myself, but for high energy clips eg. skateboarding tricks 😉 I would say a higher fps is also important ✌️

Well it's hard to judge blind, you should experiment and see what works best for you - as mentioned in the video, you can't really do true slo-motion with this camera unfortunately, for which the higher framerate would be useful, hence I always use it at 4K

Image quality is decent as long as you are using the cam on a nice bright, sunny day - it has got some image stabilization capabilities to reduce shaking - I think it's not bad, but to judge yourself, maybe watch one of our travel videos to see that in action. My V50X has never taken a picture on my phone in the Akaso app, only videos. I switch it to picture mode on the phone and press take a picture and it starts recording a video. Does anyone know the answer to how to fix this - or what I'm doing wrong - what I'm missing - is there a step there somewhere? I mean this is 10 days now I've never figured it out. I've tried setting the camera before turning on the Wi-Fi to the photos mode stuff like that; and also is there any way to get this wi-fi screen off of the Akaso itself and actually view what the camera is seeing regardless of the phone? I'm about to return this thing and I hate to do that.
The app is a bit clumsy in my opinion - quite laggy/slow/unresponsive at times, so I never really use it. Although when I tested it, apart from being annoying here and there, it did everything it was supposed to do. I used the android version if that helps. - not sure how the app functions on iOS..
@@dantierandbalogh thank you I have had it with for example you can't get that I mean there's so many problems with it and the camera itself you can't get that Wi-Fi notification off of the camera itself when it's connected to the phone it shuts down everything else that you're doing when the app is up even if you're just playing out of a line onto a Bluetooth speaker on a MP3 player it shuts that off and so that's just for starters of course so about 2 minutes ago I finished my return process with Amazon and I don't know I really want a camera I'm going to have to spend what 350 bucks to get something that works right and then maybe it'll be the same problems for the GoPro so this just is not a mature industry yet or whatever thank you for getting back to me but it's it's a zero-sum game for me I'm out have a good day man.

Camera is good but buttons are poor quality, specially the side ones, mine went bad twice, but fortunately I got replacement twice.

I have the original v50x, I’ve heard that the reissue model of this same camera is terrible, it has all new hardware that isn’t event the original Sony censor.
Nice action camera, except internal mic is awful. Akaso V50X is identical to the Campark V30, just rebranded. So whatever one is cheaper, that is the one to buy.
Haven't heard of the Campark V30, will look it up just now👌& yeah the mic is where they didn't bother on this one 😃
@@dantierandbalogh : Bought an external mic for the Campark, in fact i bought the Akaso V50X mic on Amazon. Makes a huge difference to audio quality.

Good packaging, many accessories but the main target is not reached : Very poor image quality even in (what they call) 4K, very bad sound quality without an external microphone... and add to this, a very bad customer support and resellers network. Until now, GoPro remains the best
I bought one and i still use it as... a dashcam
Audio quality on mine when played on camera is rubbish, but if played back on laptop it's absolutely fine. Very clear and loud
