I purchased a GoPro for wake boarding and water skiing with the camera on a anti-vibration mount atop the pole. It was always a pain to turn off and on. Lots of times it did not record or the video was useless. I purchased one of these a couple years ago and love the unit....Easy to use and we know it is off or on as the remote works well. All the footage has been useable. The extras are handy too as I move the camera to the bike etc....thanks for the video Steve

I got this back in aug 2022 to film my delivery bike rides for my youtube channel. Best decision ever. Been happy with my purchase as I get into recording with action cameras.

Yes, I agree. The footage is usable for the average user. If there are enough lights, the footage could be stunning. Of course, it is not a GoPro standard to be compared. But it is an excellent action camera for most consumers to begin with. The price proves it! 🙂

I have this exact camera and your assessment is spot on. For a sub-$100 model, it's pretty amazing. My only real "complaint" is I wish it had an external mic jack. Sound quality is pretty rough with the limited on board mic, but if they added a jack, I'd never even consider a GoPro again.
You can always do a Voice Over, the Inshot editing app gives you the option to add Audio into your video😮
You can buy an external mic for this cam!
Good review BUT watch the BATTERY life on this re how soon it drops off.. VERY short. 🤔

Awesome review! Thank you for being honest on your pros and cons on this little camera. I've been thinking of getting myself some type of camera for when I hit the road on my touring bagger, but I wasn't sure of what to get, nor did I want to pay too much for something that I may not use that often. I also fly RC airplanes, so this will definitely be used at times on some of them too.
To further my research, I had went online to look at some more reviews, and most of them had a 4.5/5 star average, which had impressed me.

The only real criticism I have at this price point is the footage is a little overly sharpened making, but that's a thing with a lot of cameras these days. It may be possible to turn this down / off in the settings and sharpen in post if necessary later.

Very Impressive for a 100 dollar camera GoPro is a Rip off and their accessories have been far from complimentary as far as reliable utilities. I think the upload quality of the footage tho wasnt right.

It can’t compete with a recent GoPro when it comes to image stabilization. So you get what you pay for in this area.

I was looking for a complementary camera to my DJI Osmo Pocket 2.
Like many, I fell into the trap of the well -supplied package of the Akaso 50x. Well, the balance sheet is not glorious ...
Sound is a disaster: just that is unacceptable. But the problems do not stop there: impossible to correct the distortion if stabilization is active (confirmed by email by Akaso). Stabilization is just acceptable and adds noise. The image quality is deplorable, even in 4k30fps: from noise to Gogo, no dive, saturated colors and flattens.
I even think that it is not 4K: the comparison with the DJI Pocket 2 and a Go Pro shows that we are far from the same result.
Apart from that, the package is complete;)
My Akaso V50X only lasted 9 months before it had a failure and software stopped working.
Akaso support was terrible to the point that we just contacted the shop we bought it from and they refunded us
Nothing worse that getting the WARNING CAMERA HOT when shooting with the gopro

Hi mate, How did it turn out?
I had an Akaso but I hated the color of my videos. Everything had a yellowish hue to it. The audio sucked too. You could barely hear what I said in the video. I broke down and bought a Go Pro 10 and have been amazed at the quality of the videos and the colors are stunning. The audio is 10x better too. I will never go back to an Akaso.
I picked up an off brand (Cooau) that cost roughly 40% less. It does 4K30p too with touch screen and EIS, but also does 4K60p without EIS. It came with a plethora of mounting options and accessories as well. I mainly bought them (four) to place on my bike like dash cams, I even have eight batteries. They actually have a dash cam mode too…
These are absolutely great alternatives, as I certainly could not justify the $2000 it would cost as an equivalent GoPro setup…

great if the camera is stationary ... but for some1 like myself riding bikes off-road this camera is a big no no ... and the sound quality is less than poor.. my advise is spend a little extra guys, Don't buy twice

I've been using Akasos for years. I use them in pairs for 3D. All of those functions that this camera has have been in the previous Akaso action cameras, which you can nowadays pick up for half of their original cost. How does this camera compare with the previous Akaso EK7000, which is almost identical?
Great review and looks a decent camera. I love to see cheaper alternatives to more expensive cameras. I have a DJI Action which I got second hand with a 2 year warranty from CEX and its like new for £180 and its superb. The stabilisation is way better than a gopro

No. according to their website it doesn't have external mic capability. That's a bit of a deal killer since for about $20 more the v50 pro does. If all other features are equal. A number of their cameras are around $120 or less. It would be nice to see a comparison. Thanks for the review!

Still one of my favs even though its a few years old. Still great quality for the price. Nice review! You should try the external mic with it. Makes a big difference.
Can you record one video of say 30 mins? Or does it do 3 clips of 10 mins?
@@EliVideoCloud i believe it records in clips of about 7-9min. Unless they updated the firmware, since I got mine years ago. Hope that helps.

I have owned the Akaso x50V for 2 years now. Such a good value for the dollar. Zero problems, amazing 4K/1080P. Great stability. This thing takes abuse on my motorcycle and its a pleasure to plug it into my 4K TV and see the details for the total price of: 125.00 shipped. You can't beat that.....End of story. Going to buy an upgrade from them soon. I am waiting for a 360 from Akaso.

Hi. I'm thinking to buy one. How is the battery life? And can I record video with it while plugged to a powerbank without worrying of overheating?
@@valhakun I can do 120 mins on 1080p, on a fresh battery. I have, by now, 5 batteries. I use mine on my motorcycle, not on my helmet and it doesn't get hot while charging. No issues by me. If you are looking to get one, might as well get the newer model the have now.

I've looked at a few of these types of cameras. The last one I had was the Akaso Brave 7 LE. As you say, the stabilisation isn't quite there, although my main issue with the cheap cameras is that the field of view isn't wide enough for good POV shots. These cameras are cheap, but I always stand by the saying, "buy cheap, buy twice". Given how little you can get a used HERO7 or even 8 for, I would recommend going that route if money is an issue, and you'll have a way more capable camera. HyperSmooth on the 7 was game changing, and it still holds up now, and the 8 is one of the best cameras GoPro has ever made.

@@noloolon2880 Exactly, GoPro's are buggy junk that constantly malfunction. I own a Hero 7 Black -- and would buy another GoPro only if nobody else made action cams.
This camera is so fragile that if you drop it and the touch screen on the back comes off or comes loose the camera is literally bricked and won't boot the camera comes under so many different names that if you're buying it for 80 bucks it's only worth about $15 under a different name
Interesting camera. A side by side comparison would have been a better test. Also how does it do in heat and cold. GOPRO's Suck in the heat.
In my opinion, for YT videos 1080P 60 is all that is needed. That being said, I just got a Hero8 and it takes amazing 1080 video. Once uploaded, YT compresses it and reduces some of its brilliance.
4k videos look better than 1080 when uploaded to TH-cam, even at 1080
@@stevestechemporium And from an experiment, YT compresses most videos recorded at 1080. YT does not compress videos that are 4K. So I was totally wrong.

The main fault with previous Akaso cameras has been that, when you change the battery, everything defaults to the set=up mode, including the time and date. Does this have the same fault?
My V50X has never had that problem.
Is there a better model? This seems good and for the price may as well push the budget up, My channel quite new and use my phone mostly.

Now I'm really confused. I want to start making some vids of my cycling adventures around where I live in France. I was all for getting a GoPro8 or 9. Then I found out about the Insta 360 X3 and now you come along with this little cam which might be a good way to start. But to top it all off I currently use Windows Movie Maker on my IMac and that does an ok job. However I was thinking of getting a better video editing suite but a) I have no idea what to choose and b) as my IMac is an older version refurbed it seems I don't have the operating system required to load a modern heavy duty Adobe type product. Any ideas?

so its a hero 5 black that's not waterproof. they go for about $80 these days. i wonder how well they stack up price to performance a year later

@@mattwuk I ended up having to return it Matt due to the audio. I think that I had a dodgy Mic as it didn't sound anything like the quality here.

A question it looks like no one has asked - does it have that rubberised finish that goes sticky, sometimes in as little as a couple of years?

Good effort but, in my opinion, some more low-light use cases should be tested...just not to disappoint buyers after their own testing.
One thing I would also test: the 1080p 60fps setting. You see, especially if the sensor is 4k in resolution, software downsampling could really make magic work and improve the overall quality of video; or it could not do that entirely. Especially for vlogging and action shots, this setting would be my choice of preference.

I just did an apeman a77 test, I'm pretty sure it would have been fine without the big scratch on it... But at £40 GBP, I think it's a real steal. Stability looks good tho, punches in a bit... How much crop did you lose?

If this is the best alternative to GoPro under $100 in 2022, then GoPro is light years ahead. Camera totaly not worth spending money on it. That 4k is actually 480p quality. Great review video doe, you nailed it bravo. I would recommend it to everyone, to watch - and to avoid AKASO at all costs.
Yeah, GoPro is light years ahead at overheating and locking up. I have a Hero 7 Black, it's the biggest piece of shit that I've ever used in my life.
GoPro is a love&hate relationship. I downgraded years ago a Hero6 to a used Hero5 because of all the annoying bugs. Picture quality is usually good. But still occasionaly corrupted files, overheating, missing sound, missing GPS ...
Just clicked the link for the camera and Amazon have upped the price nearly 50% to £143 (quid ) 4-6 weeks dispatch time! Good review though thank you.
I have one of these at it is fantastic! The quality of the video is unbelievable for the price. Their customer service is also great. It was worth every penny.
How are the videos saved? Can you have one big video? Of say 40mins? Or is it broken up into 4x 10min clips?

Wait does this need a case to be waterproof? Seems like the storage card is a hassle no?
Yes it comes with an additional waterproof case. I haven't seen any waterproof action cameras for similar money that are waterproof without a case.

Yes same here! everyone isn't interested in producing cinematic features! but some do want to document awesome adventures of a standard quality. for where we are in base level technology performance there should be something of quality at every price point.

Definate pixel blurring at lower light levels.
I had the older v50 and it always let me down, finally spiked it on concrete and was done with it.

Exact same as the Campark V30, in fact it is rebranded and that's it. However the Campark has a better built in mic on the camera. So, whatever one is cheaper when looking for a budget camera that is the one to get.

How are the files moved from the camera to be exported? What all methods? a removeable data storage microSd card? usb connection? wi-fi transfer using a phone app? how best to move files to a Computer?
Oh but this is very much about GoPro because I'm sure many of us are having serious issues with our current GoPro. I'm definitely looking for something better than an overheating GoPro in winter.

I am looking for a cheap go pro for protection on the trail. I need a good mic in case of run ins with dangerous people and was looking at the ek7000 which one should I buy for protection and an occasion nature videos?
I have got another AKASO model recently. Fully agree with your views, and I find stabiization not good at all capturing while on a mountain bike. Definitely worst than my retired VIRB. So I switched off. Videos are really good using head placement without needing stabilization to capture the feeling of movement.
We can find a second hand Osmo Action 1 for almost 100-120 dollars. Of course, Akaso V50x is good, but mic is not good.

as a stage artist, i d use this cam on a tripod or solid steady surface without stabilization on and max fov to get extra shooting angles while having a good cam on my instrument like dji action 3 which have better stabilization while not cropping so hard on the edges.
Would this be a good camera to use for recording my daughter’s softball games. Don’t wanna spend the coin on the GoPro and all the needed accessories.

Is the mic audio edited? Every review of this specific camera it always has different quality of audio! So im still confused if the audio quality is actually good or not..

Sound quality is ok as long as it’s not windy. Yeah you’ll need a reasonable computer and software to edit. Filmora is a decent budget option. I use premiere pro

Sound quality is not that good on mine, but it is usable. Something funny about the audio codec though - does not work in Movie Maker 17 and has to be converted by another programme first.
Are the lenses plastic or glass? Plastic gets severely scratched by branches/clothes etc = soon useless. Same with box plastic or glass window?
