  • Nine patch is one of the most classical blocks in patchwork, grid on point is a classical layout. Let’s combine them and some flowers for texture contrast…. And we are done! Simple idea and such a beautiful result

    I love the combination of these two designs. I like to take a snapshot of your work, print it out and keep it next to the machine so I can reference it when I'm trying to figure out what to quilt. Thank you so much for sharing.

      It took me some time to learn how to use my rulers. The first time I tried it, the effect was different. But exercise and patiance does the trick. Just take it slow ❤❤❤

    Hi, Gosia. I wish I could make my flowers behave like yours do! Guess more practice is in order. By the way, I am about 3/4 finished with my quilt. I began having issues with thread shredding, but I changed a few things plus, after trying several different types of needles, settled on a Janome purple tipped needle that is supposed to be best for free motion, and the quilting is humming along much better now. I do love this Janome MC8200! She's a keeper for sure. The next quilt will not have a bunch of ruler work, though! I may section off parts with some straight lines or big circles to fill in before the actual free motion begins, but nothing like this one I'll be finishing up within the next week. I appreciate all your support, pep talks and suggestions! They have really helped me get through some tough stuff, let me tell you! 😘 ~Cynthia

      Hi Cynthia! I love so much the way you sound now. Tools mean a lot in our quilting world. I know how big of a jump I made after getting my first Janome. Suddenly it was so much easier!
      The flowers took me some time to get right as well. But there are variations and they also look good. There are quilters that made them their signature quilting and they look sooo good. I will get there one day.
      Needles are impotrant! I switched to ORGAN titanium needles size 90. they do very good work most of the time. But sometimes the thread is the cuplprit. I have spools where I cannot use them at all.
      And I am more than happy if I could provide some help. We talk in snips and snatches without knowing much. But what I love about quilting community that we are there for eachother. Keep quilting. It brings beauty and some peace to our little worlds. ❤❤❤

      @@quiltingnerd I am going to add the Organ needles to my supplies soon, just found these first. I had some a long time ago, not sure where they went. Anyway, yes, the quilting community has been very helpful. I'm so happy you added your voice to it on TH-cam! When I have issues, I peruse the quilt forums and the other free motion gurus on this platform and almost always find a solution there when I have done all I know to do and it is still not right. The thread I'm using is the Fil-Tec Glide trilobal polyester that Angela Walters loves, but I also have a lot of Isacord poly that Leah Day prefers, both are 40 wt, no lint issues. I do piece with Aurifil, Gutermann or Signature cotton, usually. I have had some threads that I thought might have been very old stock that would never stop shredding no matter what I did, but it's almost always a process of elimination when you're trying to solve machine quilting issues. Hand quilting is much less complicated, albeit ultra slow to the finish line. Sorry for the novel. Thank you again! Look forward to your next video. ~Cynthia

      @@rootsrocksfeathers1975 I admitt I love hand quilting, even if I go for large stiches and simple lines. I just love how relaxing it is. I am working on my third quilt and it does take some time. I don't mind. I go for sashiko htreads. They look really good.
      Sometimes I am envy about the buying options you guys have in US. It makes sense as the quilting is rooted htere, but I can buy only fraction of the threads here in Europe. It is changing gradually, but it takes time. Have a wonderful Sunday!

    I have discovered using wash-away thread in the bobbin works great so you are just using up thread. Can use the same quilt Sandwich over and over. Damp cloth on the back to dissolve thread, then use iron to get rid of the holes.

    • @quiltingnerd
      @quiltingnerd  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That is a great trick! I will have to try it if I can find it here in Germany. I do not mind making my quilt sandwiches as I am planning them for as projects, but for beginners.... Thank you for this feedback!
