Hi! Great bike & greta vid! You sound very accomplished, done a huge amount of miles... ...but when You complain about the handguard I thought to let You know about the difference between the two You show/mention (with and without the metal enforcement in them): the one You liked, the acerbis, with iron in it is for motocross/supermoto racebikes, so when you hit something, your hand doesn't get hurt, because it's strong and not breakable! but the tourtech one, the less strong without metal is breakable on purpose as well as why the other one is strong, it is for everyday traffic use, so when you hit other cars or anything with less speed than on racetracks, it either bends or breaks, so it absorbs the power of the impact, and your handlebar stays harmless with more chance than with stronger metal based one, cause with that you definitely bend your handlebar and may effect the front forks as well! I didn't mean to be a smartass, but felt to share this info :) - I ride a yamaha xt660x with white acerbis handguards with no metal and did a lot help when I smash the cars and stuff around in the city... anyway, have fun!
like the video really good feed back for the equipment you've chosen and I like the exhaust, its always worth putting an after market exhaust on so u can be heard by other road users and gives that bit more excitement, great review
Great video man. I also have a 2012 f800 with slightly different additions to it. (Trail riding isn’t so popular round Europe on these monsters) Could you do a sound check of the exhaust for us? :) Ride safe!
Adam, I've got a BMW 800gs as well. Looking at buying the Acerbis handguards as you mention. However, a friend has some clearance issues with the levers on his KLR. Does your wife's bike have any issues with the Acerbis handguards and clearance with the levers?Great video. Thumbs up.
Hey Adam, First off, great info on the vid, just wondering about the chain maintenance and lifespan as I have only run shaft drive 1150/1200 GS'... Considering selling the 1150 for an 800.
Hey hank. The chain maintenance isn't as much of a burden as you might think. Depending on your climate and surface conditions and off road frequency, you'll need to service it at different intervals. When I say service I mean soaking it in cleaner, wiping it with a rag and relubricating it. As far as longevity, I'm on my second chain at the 30,000 mark. I killed my last chain in new Mexico with a lot of mud so that interval may have been higher before I had to replace it
I have the bmw comfort seat ... but its not perfect. If you are in the market for one, I'd recommend looking at the Touratech and Sergeant offerings also. Hi Adam , Great video btw.
Nice Vid. I have same tires on my gsa. I don't like the chevron strip on the rear. The tire spins on that strip when attacking up hills strait on. Tree roots are a bitch here in the woods of new england. Great longevity tho. Guess I need another set of rims with full on knobbies. If only I were rich. Peace.
Great vid Adam. Just bought a '15 800GS. Just been writing down all the details in this vid. Agree with you on the pannier cost. How thick is the sheet metal you used? Was thinking about using sheet alloy with solid rivets (aviation style) but TIG welding is harder. Have you had any problems with corrosion on the panniers?
I paid particular attention while painting them as I knew this was my only form of protection from rust since I used cold roll steel. Also when I head out, I water proof my stuff with thick trash bags which may help the inside from rusting. But overall the answer is no, I haven't had rusting issues because I'm cognizant of it. And I forgot what thickness metal I used, but it's very thin, maybe 5/32?
Thanks for great review Adam! And what is the exact name of the tires you are using? I am planning on getting a F800GS myself and tires are of my priority concern.
Hey 👋🏼 there... thanks for sharing some 💡 light. Would you kindly share the brands of those crash bars and plate? Thanks. Would it fit a 2017 F800gs? I appreciate any info on where I can upgrade my ride cost efficient. Website etc. Happy riding to you.
Didn't take it off voluntarily... One of my front calipers fell off on a freeway and the fender shattered away as a result of it bouncing off a few spokes.
Adam, have you ridden the Arizona back country adventure route yet? This is the first video of yours that I've seen. Nice overall review, and great job on the do it yourself gear.. Cheers.
arkansaswookie I ve ridden the colorado CDR and a good portion portion of the AZBDR. The AZBDR is tough with big bikes. The smaller the better for this one (at least the portion I've ridden) Thanks man!!
arkansaswookie Totally doable. There are a few sections of deep sand that goes for a while and there are a few technical rocky inclines and declines that having a an f800 causes you to have to move slower and be more thoughtful. I think one of the touratech guys did it on a 1200 even.
Adam Rodriguez I have an invention for self righting a heavy bike when no one is around to help you put the bike upright. I'm trying to figure out the best way to utilize without having to attach it to the bike. Thanks for the words! Stay safe. Cheers.
Great gear review! I know this video is a little older but I just got a pre-owned 2014 f800gs that came with a few upgrades and accessories. One of them being the AltRider crash bars which are good but I want something that covers higher like yours so thanks for leading me on to Wild at Heart. I so far I've only heard of TouraTech, AltRider and Wunderlich but I like the design and protection those ones offer and how comparable in price. That being said I'm thinking about getting the Remus headers for mine and I've been reading that there may be clearance issues with engine guards. Does anyone know if the Wild at Heart crash bars have issues with the Remus headers?
Thanks Adam I'm buying an F800 next week and am collecting info. Did you consider the F800GSA? Too expensive? And did you not find the stock seat too hard? That's the other common complaint by reviewers.
Yes I think the stock seat is too hard and the comfort seat is absolutely worth it. The GSA has one huge advantage that over the stock model which is the larger gas tank. All of the other upgrades are simple enough to add yourself. It really just depends weather you want to pick all of your own stuff or just buy it ready to go right out of the box. The only real consideration is the gas tank. While larger is nicer, I've never wished that I had the standard 4 gallon one. If I need more fuel I just add my rotopax to solve that problem!
Adam, I am looking to get the new '16 F800GSA. You mentioned you have the Wild at Heart crash bars on your bike, had you considered the Rumbux bars when shopping around (www.rumbux.co.za/bmw%20product%20pages/f800gsadvfullspecendurancecrashbars.html)? I'm trying to find data on which piping is stronger/ thicker.
gr8 video. may i ask you a question about rox handlebar riser? I think you changed front brake line with extended one. does it enough or u changed clutch wire with extended one?
+Jennifer Merchant - I spotted that too Jen. And I too thought the same thing. I was wondering weather or not to remove mine too, but having just seen those brake lines dangling out the back like that, I now think not. Plus I've had zero trouble with it there for the past 2 years (25,000k's) so it can stay.
+thelifeof brian haha thanks. I've had the brake lines free like that for 15000 miles and never thought twice about them. The only thing I did to them was wrap duct tape around them to fatten them up so they wouldn't get caught in the tread of my tire. Otherwise they've been fine. One drawback to missing the front fender is wet weather riding! Water seems to shoot up through the instrument cluster and get all over your frontside!
Hey, I would like to know if the crash bars you got intalled works for the 2014 model as well ???, cause looks great and according to the video, they really protect the bike. Thanks
+Sancez - The tire is called a "Heidenau K60 Scout" and for a Front Tire on an F800GS they are hard to beat. Adam says on here that he also uses Heidenau on the rear too. I tried them but have since found that the "Dunlop D606" on the rear seems a lot better. It gives good grip on the road, good wear, and good off-road traction. Basically all round performance is good ...not fantastic, but good, especially for the price.

Cool video.. the filming got better when you shot from outside the garage to inside... I couldn't see very well initially...
This is the exact bike I just purchased and many items of these items are same mods im looking to Add. Very helpful, Thanks for the upload!
You should be an Adventurer Rider Host! Great Vid and nice F800. Thanks for the info.
Hey, 9 years later do you still have the bike? Great informative video. Looking to buy a used 2013 model in 2024.
Nice video. Cheers.
Awesome Players were here !
Bavarian Biker We are everywhere..... (insert maniacal laugh here)
Thanks adam wonder if you could do a detailed vidoe on your self made top box and panniers? how do they mount? how do they lock etc? Thanks.
Thanks man awesome video keep it up and ride safe
Fantastic review
nice review. i am currently looking at a used 2010. looks like a nice bike.
Fantastic review!
Great video man. I also have a 2012 f800 with slightly different additions to it. (Trail riding isn’t so popular round Europe on these monsters) Could you do a sound check of the exhaust for us? :) Ride safe!
Great review, man…I wish I woulda got the comfort seat when I purchased my bike.
Good review. Nice DIY gear.
Great review; thanks! What seat are you running?
would you consider doing an update on your f800? service costs, service done, any engine and suspension problems or insight you could share. thanks
Great video, Devil Dog. Semper Fi
Love the way you do.
Rider Mark I love the way you do too
what happened to your front mudguard?
Why did you take off the front mudguard? One less thing or more ground clearance?
Are those EGA's over the bmw emblem on the side of your bikes? That's cool. Ooh-rah!

+Adam Rodriguez thanks mate!
Thanks for great review Adam! And what is the exact name of the tires you are using? I am planning on getting a F800GS myself and tires are of my priority concern.
Heidneau k60 scout
+Adam Rodriguez Are they good tires for the Adventure model as well?
Hey 👋🏼 there... thanks for sharing some 💡 light. Would you kindly share the brands of those crash bars and plate? Thanks. Would it fit a 2017 F800gs? I appreciate any info on where I can upgrade my ride cost efficient. Website etc. Happy riding to you.
Great review. Thank you. Sold my f8. So sorry I did.
thanks for the video. what did you do with your wind screen? what brand is it?
Great video. Very helpfull.
Very well done!
I would have liked to see this video taken outside in day light. What was the purpose of doing it in dark in the garage?
Cool video, did you consider using ammo cans for the sides?
I did. I had put Ammo cans on my KLR and i wanted to try something different
Great review. I see you took your front fender off, Hows that working for you? Thanks for posting.
Didn't take it off voluntarily... One of my front calipers fell off on a freeway and the fender shattered away as a result of it bouncing off a few spokes.
+Adam Rodriguez Wow. What caused your caliper to fall off? Great video!
+MaritimeBiker BMW dealer in Tucson called Iron Horse bmw. They failed to properly torque them down. I lost both caliper bolts almost simultaneously
Adam Rodriguez How do you think a BMW 800 gs would fair on that trail?
arkansaswookie Totally doable. There are a few sections of deep sand that goes for a while and there are a few technical rocky inclines and declines that having a an f800 causes you to have to move slower and be more thoughtful. I think one of the touratech guys did it on a 1200 even.

Great informative video.
Great video. I couldn't find the description on the seat. That's not standard is it?
It's the BMW 'comfort seat' totally worth it
Great review thanx! May I ask how tall are you? I just wondering if the gs 800 is too tall a bike for me.
5'10"
Good video. Keep it up.
nice video. Very helpful
forgot to mention the rear mudguard
Nice video,thks

Do you have to drop the skid plate to take the oil filter off? Just got mine used Same bike have to get skid plate.
Hi, what did you do with the bmw logo? Is that a special sticker?
Thanks alot Adam :)
Thanks Adam I'm buying an F800 next week and am collecting info. Did you consider the F800GSA? Too expensive?

Didn't change any cables. There is enough slack for the risers to be put on.
+Adam Rodriguez is it 2inch?
80mm
So, no front fender? I've seen and considered that mod. But leaving those brake lines hanging over the wheel has a potential for nasty trouble.

Thanks
Mauricio Mejía Molina yes those crash bars will work for the 2014 f800gs
Yes. The wild@heart crash bars will work on the 2014 F800GS. They will not work on the 800GSA though due to a different fairing shape.
Where did you order those crash bars? I recently purchased a 2017 and I would like some like those.
david s they are called wild@heart and I think i got them from f800 depot. you can probably Google the name and find them
What size RotoPax is the one shown? I went to their website and I know they offer several sizes.
That's a two gallon
Can you please list the stuff?
Where i found This crash bars
What was the name and maker of the tires you have on?
Heidneau k60 scout..
What type of seat?
How much weight did the 4-Brothers exhaust save you? (11:47)
SquidRides no clue about the exact weight. but the two brothers is a hell of a lot lighter.
Hi! What's the exact name of those tires?
+Sancez - The tire is called a "Heidenau K60 Scout" and for a Front Tire on an F800GS they are hard to beat.
Adam says on here that he also uses Heidenau on the rear too. I tried them but have since found that the "Dunlop D606" on the rear seems a lot better. It gives good grip on the road, good wear, and good off-road traction. Basically all round performance is good ...not fantastic, but good, especially for the price.
i have 1.70 meters can i drive it normal
do you know how lights and cameras work?
Grecu Cristian hahaha fuck me right?!
Hello Adam is the black BMW a 650 or 700 i am looking for a bike that my foot reach out ??
The black bike is a G650GS. Both the 650 gs and the 700 come in multiple seat Heights. I've had both of them and I like the 700 better.
How much was the wild@heart crash bar?
450$
Sorry, but what is an "MSR"? The red bottle…?
All purpose fuel bottle. For camping stoves or just an added bit of bike fuel...
Witch crash bar do you use?
Wild@heart crashbars
