I had a Super Tenere as one of my last bikes. Loved it - really suited me well. It was a bike that would do just-about anything you wanted a bike to do. Of all the bikes I owned, I think that was probably the best all-round.
4 year old comment, but this is the exact reason why BMW aren't getting my money. It's an ADV bike. It's gonna get beat up, and it's going to need replacement parts because of it. VStrom will let you take that money and put it to gas or gear and not to bmw.
This is still one of my favorite bike reviews anywhere! And it rings true for me...I'm a very imperfect rider, but my F800GS Adventure's imperfections suit me quite well. I love the bike!
I drove a BMW F800GSA (2013) for almost 2 years straight: first from the Netherlands to the North Pole in Scandinavia, after that to the most southern point of Europe. Stayed in the Canary Islands for the winter, after that we went through basically the rest of Europe (apart from the Baltic states), Turkey, Georgia, Armenia, Iran, Pakistan and finally India. In total it was about 55.000km, I literally had 0 issues with the bike. Apart from basic stuff such as a couple of flat tires and a chain/sprocket replacement. Even the low quality gasoline in countries such as Iran & Pakistan was no problem. It's a FANTASTIC all-rounder; to this day I'm still super happy with it!
This is one of the best, if not the all time best video you guys have made, Kudos to you and to your team, and if you end up in southern California with your 800 give me a shout and we'll go ride. cheers.
I didn't say I was right but my opinion is the opposite. Yes it's well produced and well edited but I want to see the bike not an expo on video editing finesse. I expect a deluge of downvotes but I wanted to express some feed back because I honestly think this guy is one of the best reviewers on TH-cam. It's just my take that's all.
howardgreenwood , he kind of says it right at the beginning that this is not a bike review, I have kind of a review of the regular f800gs on my channel if you need one
I agree with you Albe; I also own a 800GSA and every single comment by Ryan hits the nail on the head. Stats are easy to obtain and mentioned in 85% of every video review out there, no-one needs to spend 5 minutes watching a boring ass repeating them all, again. What is more useful is exactly what you'll find in this incredible review. My conclusion is the same, this bikes imperfections cancel out my imperfections almost perfectly - its Bose noise cancellation in an adventure motorcycle. When I want soppy drool all over my bike I'll take the 1200GSA out, but that stuff is nasty and difficult to clean, I much rather prefer people leave me the hell alone and let me enjoy my solitude and silence when I'm on my time.
This deserves a Director’s Cut Extended version. The garage dark scene transition to nature seen in 55” via chromecast is really good. There are really good details on this motion picture. Congrats.
I own an F800GSA and I agree with everything you said. I had a 1200GSA (2012) for two years... Hated it. I rode a few bikes and was sold on the (2014) F800GSA and I am very happy with that choice and have done many off-road adventure trips.
Such a perfectly executed beautifully orchestrated edit. Leaps and bounds ahead of content elsewhere. The bikes cool, but the manner in which this was conducted was fucking epic. Keep it up!
i had a 2009 bmw f800gs for 10 years, and i loved the bike! i upgraded to a 1200gs while the road performance is better in every aspect the offroad performance of the 800 was simply amazing for its size!
Watched the video a number of times, bought a 2015 GSA in 2018 lightly used, put 5,000 miles on it, 60/40 road dirt. Watched the video again to confirm my experience. Am spending New Year Day watching videos on upgrading fork springs, been in touch with Ted Porter Beemer Shop on choice of rear shock upgrade this winter. Will be taking it from Cape Cod to the Dempster Highway this summer. I lIke it more than my riding partner’s 2008 R1200 GSA. And of course I very much like the F9 videos. Well done.
This video helped me finally decide on the bike. Had the technic version for a few years on my desk, but I’ll be riding the real thing by month’s end. Thanks Ryan! Keep up the awesome work!
I own both a KLR & Africa Twin. Both capable fun bike's. I Love both for different reasons. I'm 6' 1" 220 lbs. I have made the changes to make both bikes fit me and work for my riding style. No bike is perfect. Ride what works for individual make chages needed to enhance for safety, handling, comfort. Great video's and very informative FUN dialogue. 👍
When this video came out, I'd already enjoyed my GS800 for over a year, but was still open to the idea of an 'upgrade'. Now it's 2022, I've tried every competitor from Honda, Yamaha, KTM and even BMW (including the 850s and 900s) and I'm still riding my '13 GS800. Admittedly I upgraded the fork springs, fitted a spicy end can, and have 17" wheels for summer tarmac/track duty, but it's a very boring, very dull, very competent motorcycle that seems impossible for me to replace. Love/hate/love.
I’m still in the same place - although I also have a rear shock upgrade. Never stop being told I should buy an KTM890adv by friends and I’ve tried them loads of times, along with the T7 and I just can’t see why I would change? My 800gs just keeps plodding along, doing its thing never making a fuss. It gets abused on the trails and left caked in mud for weeks and rarely misses a beat or fails to start. It gets up all the technical sections the others do and cruises happily on the tarmac in between.
Your videos that include the v-strom 1000 are helping me a bunch, I know that wasn't the point on this vid but it's good to see that there are more dirt worthy bikes that aren't $15k us dollars. I am in the process of getting myself a 2014 v-strom 1000 and I think now more than ever I'm not changing my mind to anything else. Me having a motocross bike means my on road bike doesn't have to take me that far off-road. So for me I think the v-strom will be perfect.
F800GS-A. Very much a more modern interpretation of the older XRV750 Africa Twin. I can see why some people fall in love with certain bikes. The sum of all bike parts equals more. Thanks Ryan for all your contributions to the sport and lifestyle we love.
It´s absolutely fascinating to watch. I only ride street fighters and sports, haven´t even touched non-asphalt roads and still these, are my favorite videos :) You guys are doing amazing work, thank you for that!
I've got a 2012 F800GS Trophy, and so much of this review overlaps. I've ridden a 4000 mile road trip and often wished for a larger fuel tank than the pitiful 4gallons, better highway cruising above 75mph, and more oomph on the on ramps. I've wished for more personality in the exhaust and a more exciting power band. But at the end of the day, beyond the essential mods like crashbars, a real bash plate, and a taller windscreen, I really can't bring myself to swap it for something else. The under-the-seat gas tank really provides a unique feeling especially at lower speeds, it's so narrow between the legs allowing me to counterweight further, and although boring the throttle and powerband is so realistically usable. A truly amazing machine.
Absolutely the most clever, well made videos on TH-cam. Every one is a joy to watch, a pleasure to see how this team will top their last one. Keep it up guys.
Ryan, I currently ride a 2019 CVO Road glide, now I have no plans to ever ride off road or even on a slightly bumpy road. I did order a BSA Spitfire scrambler at 16 this arrived with straight pipes, no brake light ,headlight, horn, mirrors etc. Large "Knobby "" Tires carried me through God forsaken places and broke most small bones in my body this also cured me of that sport, the year was 1958, since I have been going down only the finest, smoothest highways in North America for 60 years. I love watching your videos the humor is completely Canadian, I have no need of any products you display but the entertainment is brilliant and it confuses our southern neighbors Regards Humphrey B.
oddly, you are right! the odd imperfections for others that suit you are better than the perfect bike that doesn't...I think that is the beginning of a beautiful friendship!
Depends how you see power. The 800 twin has more torque. And even revs lower at highway speed. Than the triple. There isn't anything to really say about the 800 rotax engine it's completlly sole less probably the most boring engine ever.
Iv'e gone right off the twin headlights on the tiger, and still can't get past the welded frame rear pegs and one piece frame construction. The switchgear on the handle bars is rather massive too
Bloody loved this. I sold my 2012 1200GSA 2 years ago. I miss it every day. Brought it over to NZ from South Africa and didn't ride it often enough. I regret selling it. I've always wanted one of these and may just get one in the next few years. Greetings from a South African living in NZ. Cheers
Ryan! you're leaving us??!!! nooo!! glad you found your new love of a bike. I love my 8GS...it doesn't do everything amazingly..but it does everything perfectly fine.
Loved my F800GSA . Made me look good and be confident beyond my natural abilities off-road. Was it not for BMW’s insanely expensive maintenance and upkeep...I’d probably never have gotten back to my Honda roots. So, I’m genuine thankful to it for both the good and the bad then.
Old comment, but feel the need to reply. You are obviously right, but.. The maintenance on the F800GS is pretty easy to do by yourself, if you follow the manual! Especially compared to other BMW models....
Always great watching your videos. As an owner of a KTM 950 and F800GSA, I can tell you the 800 is not a bad bike. An aftermarket windscreen like the Puig, Andreani fork cartridges, and a better seat will make your ride so much better.
i'm about to buy myself a 800gsa from 2017. Looks brand new and no miles. Apparently it was owned by a old man and his wife was too fearful too ride so he had it in the garage for 3 years straight. With all the upgrades, aluminium panniers etc and a good price... this video helped me to decide, YES! If you can ride to Siberia and back on a 1200 you can do it on a 8 too! Love your videos and a trip trough Canada will hopefully happen in the future then this pandemic is over. Greetings from Sweden.
Guys your reviews are stunning. just love them. How long are you filming for such a video? Must be a crazy amount of time XD Anyway, greetings from Luxembourg
@@FortNine Great job, like really great job . I've watched like 60 of your videos in last 2 days and they are all story telling beauties of cinematography. I want to get my bike license and here in Europe (Cro) we have A1 (125 cm/11KW), A2 (35 kW), & A (No limit except age min24 or 20 with A2license for 2 years). Since i'm old and lazy i've went straight for A , which means I learn on bike of min 600 cm3 & 40kw which is hard to control . I already leaned it stopping, as it was 240kg Aprilia Shiver which i found very hard to steer and violent on gas. In the meantime i broke arm in totally unrelated accident and now I'm checking all the cool instructional videos (mostly yours) that will help me master bike riding more then my instructor . Thanks for that . What i didn't check is how to service bikes , like you have what to service and when but it would be really interesting to see details of changing tire , replacing chain, and so on... but on level of detail you do it , minimal effective tools ( as well to have with you in case of emergency fix on long roads) , what to watch out when positioning and why. Personally I plan to buy smaller used bike (eg.Versys-X 300) and do practice on it , getting feel for road and cornering , and then something like this 800GSA to travel the world (midlife crisis) for few months so doing tire swap or some other basic fixes you came up to with your driving history would be much appreciated . All the best in future and safe driving .

Ryan what the others are saying, the production values, the entertainment value and the information you put out are nothing short of stellar! Between you, DanDan and Kevin at MC Rider I have become a far more confident and better informed rider. THANK YOU!
@@Spartansrule118 Hey Rajer, I actually sold the F800 and got a 99 BMW R1100RT. I'm 70 and wanted the better weather protection and there's more of the servicing and repairs I can do myself. Also figured I'm not likely to be doing a lot of "off road" riding so... The F800 performed beautifully while I had it with one major exception. I managed to blow a rectifier/regulator and a stator on the bike. Couple of things here; parts pricing and availibilityfrom BMW is really really bad. And this, for a motorcycle BMW bills as a "go anywhere" machine. I broke down in Dallas, Texas and yet... 2 week wait on parts and WAY over-priced! $1300 for a stator and $350 for the regulator/rectifier!!?? Aftermarket parts; $450 total for both with expedited shipping. Also of note, there was NO under-volt or any warning from the CAN-BUS system, battery just dropped dead with no warning. In short? Count on $pending $ome, either on $peciality tool$ or with the dealer. CAN-BUS system is just one more layer keeping people from truly "owning" their motorcycles. If you can't service or repair it yourself? You don't truly "own" it!

@@sivvinod3187 I ended up buying a T7 a 2 weeks ago. I've owned at least one of every major type of motorcycle (this is my first adv bike) and it's by far my favorite. Casablanca ref ending made my day, man! You are a gem of a reviewer. Ive been away from riding for 10 yrs due to a non riding related back injury. Your content has been inspiring me to take a chance and walk into Rick's Cafe.
Great review Ryan. I have had my GSA 800 now for 3 years touring all over Europe off road and trail riding and agree with everything. I have tested most other bikes but still can't find anything to come close to it. including the New GS 850 which I found faster but sounds like a bag of spanners. the 1200's are far to big for serious off road or trail riding so I will keep this bike for the forcible future. Cheers Mick (Motoadventure Man)
Have you test ridden the 850? I have a regular 2016 F800 and see no reason to want to change it at all! I love my bike. It just hit 25,000 miles and I'm hoping to push it well past the 100k mark. Part of me wishes I went with the GSA for the larger fuel tank, but I suppose I can always remedy that with a Camel Tank and still retain a lighter weight.
I finally know why you moved from Montreal!!! Thought I'm sad that you will not show me new places in Quebec that I would discover (I'm a very new rider), it always gives me great pleasure to see your videos. Thank you and thank you for continuing to do some more.
I bought the 2015 F700GS. It has a 800 twin engine. It has ABS. "Anti-spin". "Electronic Suspension Adjustment" (ESA) And mine comes with "Automatic Stability Control" (ASC) and even heated hand-grips. And for a fraction of the price. What is not to love? The 1200GS is awesome, but I love my 700GS! I think I'll keep it for a while after paying it off.
Hey f9, great vid, I also believe the f800 has it's own place among the adventure lineup, and I fully support everything you said about the rig. Please do a honda nc750x review, I've owned one for a month now and I truly think this kind of a commuter/adventure bike is rather unique and would be an interesting subject for a motorcycle review video. Keep up the great vids!
I used to own a 2012 NC700X that I traded in for a 2016 F800GS (non Adventure version). I'm in love with my GS, but there's just some things from the NC that I miss dearly, namely that frunk (front trunk). Nothing beat being able to store your helmet there and your jacket in a top case in the summer and being free of gear when you reached your destination!
Your videos are awesome, I truly love the care and creativity involved, and the insightful criticism of the bikes. Looking forward to a Triumph Tiger "review", hopefully it's in the schedule!
Ryan must be busy packing, his out sourcing some of the dubbing to someone else. You better keep filming the videos from your new location 90% of the people here prob watch the videos due to personality and layout. If they start putting other faces up it could go the way of top gear
Weltenspinner LPs it was one of the biggest motoring programs on tv, untill they changed the cast. The new presenters didnt really work, so popularity has droped for it.

Hi @FortNine, thank you for the fantastic channel and content of your videos. At the beginning of this year I have decided to buy a new bike (while I was riding Suzuki V-Strom DL 1000 from 2001`). I gave a try the new V-Strom, Honda Africa Twin and the GSA. After watching this video I have finally decided to buy the BMW F800GSA. Not because of its spec, but because it fits me as a rider and it meets my expectations, needs. "It's not the best ADV bike in the world, but the bike I fell in love with". Since June I have made only 5000km, but I can say I don't regret. All the best for you. Greetings from Poland.
If I could have found one for sale last year when I was looking I would have gotten one. Unfortunately, no one in a reasonable distance had one for sale. So I ended up with a 2013 R1200 GSA. Not entirely disappointed though.
Same, bought my old 2014 F800R this year as my first bike and i felt in love with her. I know there are more modern, prettier and better bikes but the perfect bike for me is my little old fashioned BMW. It isn't so "cool" like a Duke or a Z900 like the most people think but i don't care, for my there isn't a other bike thats like the little 800er and so cool like it.
The production value of your videos. Incredible. Script and execution. Brilliant. In a world with TH-camrs like DoItWithDan this is absolutely necessary.
Hey Ryan! Between you and Dan Dan the Fireman I have become a much better rider and more knowledgeable consumer of all things moto related. I currently own a 2009 BMW F800GS. It's the first bike I've been on in decades (I'm 68 years young) and I'm finding it to be quite nimble for all it's heft. But it's the practice, tips and training I've learned through your videos (and Dan's) that have taken me from being a scared shitless newbie to a far more confident rider. THANKS RYAN!

Stayed in the Canary Islands for the winter, after that we went through basically the rest of Europe (apart from the Baltic states), Turkey, Georgia, Armenia, Iran, Pakistan and finally India.

@@anthonymaniz1933 Right now about 78k in km. Just came back from a month of Faroër and Iceland. Still 0 issues!
these videos have become works of art....everything after the versys
The versy-x review... I may have cried
I got a versys after watching that video :) and I love it so much :)
I actually did cry.

Boi made my day
man, I keep coming back to this video again and again over the years! it has an emotional connection with me somehow!
Albe's Adv
I guess he does say that but when the title says bike review I kind of expect that. I'll check out the video you mentioned. :) all good.
When I want soppy drool all over my bike I'll take the 1200GSA out, but that stuff is nasty and difficult to clean, I much rather prefer people leave me the hell alone and let me enjoy my solitude and silence when I'm on my time.
i liked the versys300 review better... with the time travel thing
This video makes me feel like I need to go hug my bike and remind it I love it.
How many miles had the 800gs?
@@rodoroy sold it with 35 000 miles on it
Watched the video a number of times, bought a 2015 GSA in 2018 lightly used, put 5,000 miles on it, 60/40 road dirt.
So that's why SCR950 and VStrom aren't presented in his future video. Looking back, what a great choice he made.
Every time an episode ends I’m expecting the cut to the Top Gear studio and the applause and joyous excitement of the audience.
Paint it.Red.And white.Instant "dullness" removal.Thats what I did !!
Now this IS the cinematography!
N.B. also it's nice to finally find the stories from a tall guy perspective.
I only ride street fighters and sports, haven´t even touched non-asphalt roads and still these, are my favorite videos :)
You guys are doing amazing work, thank you for that!
the cinematography and storytelling are some of the finest i've seen in any medium.
After that ending, now I gotta go back and look for other movie references... Another great one F9👍👍
Thanks! Yep, Casablanca was the glaringly obvious one but there are more in there ;) ~RF9
Found another: 500 Days of Summer (Expectations vs Reality)
ah so that's what that was! Chapter 2 was Moonrise Kingdom i believe.
Because of this video I went to my local dealership and bought a completly new F 800 GS Adventure with all the extras and I love it so much thx
God damn I just fell in love with a motorcycle I don’t even like!
I drive a super sport and I still love this video...
I love watching your videos the humor is completely Canadian, I have no need of any products you display but the entertainment is brilliant and it confuses our southern neighbors Regards Humphrey B.
some of the best motorcycle content on TH-cam!
oddly, you are right! the odd imperfections for others that suit you are better than the perfect bike that doesn't...I think that is the beginning of a beautiful friendship!
10:59 *holding back tears*
Totally get your point: some imperfections give a bike character and that BMW F800GS Adventure has tons of it. Great video!
Watching it 2019. Still good vid.
this video touched my heart. What a beautiful love letter to the GSA!
I'm searching for a new bike and am deciding between the tiger, the gs800, and the ktm 1090r. These last videos have made me very happy.
I like the 1090r the 125hp is a lot more than tiger 800 africa twin and this (f800gsa) but the price is almost as much as 2 bikes.
Get a Tiger. I made a full south america trip on mine and didn't have a single issue. Engine is more powerful than GS and sound is beautiful.
The switchgear on the handle bars is rather massive too
Follow your heart..in this case I will go for Katoom..unique bike..the Orange country is wider..it can fit any category..
Because of this video I bought myself a 2010 f800gs, sold my r1 for this bike and I’m so glad I made the change
Makes me cry in the end every time I watch this!
This is not a video. This is not a review. This is an homage.
Beautifully done.
After 4 years, if you still wondering what that song is: *Autumn in Paris - Jan Baars*
Must be a crazy amount of time XD
Anyway, greetings from Luxembourg
I think we were 3-4 days shooting this one! Pre-production and editing takes about the same time on either end. ~RF9
@@veselipastir Check MCrider channel for great instructional videos, on both skills and strategy.
No one competes on the artistic element with Fortnine though. :)
I just picked up my 17' F800 GS... Ultimately I was more confortable on it than any other enduro bike being 6'3 190.. Not to mention I got a smoking deal on one! Thank you for your review, it gave me what I needed to know.
Always amazed by your production. Reminds me of the SCR900 video. More entertaining than just a review. Good jobs
I just found this channel while watching MOTOTREK (caps intentional) and what a find! These are some of the best quality video presentations I've encountered. Lighting, sound, perspective and overall humor is top notch. Keep up the great work and welcome to B.C.
Guys you rock!! Keep up with the great videos, this is the best motorcycle related TH-cam channel and by far my favorite.
I currently own a 2009 BMW F800GS and I've gradually, slowly but surely fallen in love with my Bruinhildebeemer! Ryan what the others are saying, the production values, the entertainment value and the information you put out are nothing short of stellar! Between you, DanDan and Kevin at MC Rider I have become a far more confident and better informed rider. THANK YOU!
has it been reliable?
@@jimsweet6574 thanks for the exceptional write up, Jim!
I've been coming back and watching all the adventure bike reviews again, and now I can't wait for your review on the new Tenere 700.
He seriously considered replacing the 800 with the tenere, but he didn't.
@@sivvinod3187 Didn't he say he is considering it for when his BMW has to go to the shop in the sky?
@@patw9175 nah he said "if anyone wants a used beemer, hit me up" which shows that he seriously considered selling it, but from his new video about crashes, he still uses his bmw
@@sivvinod3187 I ended up buying a T7 a 2 weeks ago. I've owned at least one of every major type of motorcycle (this is my first adv bike) and it's by far my favorite. I ride it like a big supermoto on the street and a heavy dirtbike off road, and it will still do 90mph on the highway for as long as there's gas in the tank. Love it :D
@@patw9175 ye it's a great bike, just wish they started selling it in more markets.
it can't be more of a creative review than that
Regardless this made me fall in love with it.
Casablanca ref ending made my day, man! You are a gem of a reviewer. Ive been away from riding for 10 yrs due to a non riding related back injury. Your content has been inspiring me to take a chance and walk into Rick's Cafe.
Round up the usual suspects.
This guy is just freaking awesome!!!! Perfect as it is!!!! Love all the tests and videos!!!! Bless you for your talent!!!!!
I bought the 2015 F700GS. It has a 800 twin engine. It has ABS. "Anti-spin". "Electronic Suspension Adjustment" (ESA) And mine comes with "Automatic Stability Control" (ASC)
and even heated hand-grips.
DCT version, please! :)
Im not looking to buy a BMW...i ride lighter bike but....i have seen this review like 10 time. Just so enjoyable to watch. Thank you Ryan and Team!
5:28 I was thinking "or you could just pile up rocks... every time you stop".
Then the next shot with a pile of rocks under the kick stand.
Perfect.
Im 6ft and the the Givi D5110ST windshield is perfect on the 800GSA, no buffeting, she is a noble steed!
Your videos are awesome, I truly love the care and creativity involved, and the insightful criticism of the bikes. Looking forward to a Triumph Tiger "review", hopefully it's in the schedule!
Your details and cinematography make me want to cry. absolutely stunning
Ryan must be busy packing, his out sourcing some of the dubbing to someone else. You better keep filming the videos from your new location 90% of the people here prob watch the videos due to personality and layout. If they start putting other faces up it could go the way of top gear
What is Top Gear?
Weltenspinner LPs it was one of the biggest motoring programs on tv, untill they changed the cast. The new presenters didnt really work, so popularity has droped for it.
Uhhh, probably closer to 89%...per the precise specifications noted in the video ;)

I thought I would be alone. I am absolutely convinced his old style was better. Honestly think he is one of the best. I think this editing is trying way to hard. Bike/review/writing/personality/clean edit. That's all you need and he's done it so well before.
J4zz x: Evene though Weltenspinner LPs' user ID indicates he might be german, I think it's quite possible his comment is meant ironical ;)
amazes me how much effort fortnine puts into writing the script for these youtube videos. great going.
Oh heck yes! Stoked you're coming to Van. The streets are much nicer but construction happens 24/7. Find all the best trails and share. You need a riding buddy on this channel though One that's, say, female and 5'3. Just to help with gear reviews. Currently 0.1% of your recommendations work for the aforementioned kind of rider.
My wife is female and 5'3... ~RF9
Would she want to help you model gear for women on here??
Hopefully he puts up a touring video for Uculet and Tofino...
Just touched heart. This is awesome video. The best
If I could have found one for sale last year when I was looking I would have gotten one. Unfortunately, no one in a reasonable distance had one for sale. So I ended up with a 2013 R1200 GSA. Not entirely disappointed though.
Hey! It says you rode the Tiger XCx in the sand... where's the review???
Same, bought my old 2014 F800R this year as my first bike and i felt in love with her. I know there are more modern, prettier and better bikes but the perfect bike for me is my little old fashioned BMW. It isn't so "cool" like a Duke or a Z900 like the most people think but i don't care, for my there isn't a other bike thats like the little 800er and so cool like it.
Still waiting on that Triumph Tiger review
Keep up the good work
Yes triumph tiger review pls
I feel like running to the nearest dealer and getting ANY adventure bike after watching this...and I've been a cruiser guy my whole riding life! These videos are very well made, kudos!
One word.
