Another great video! I am not into American cars, and since you're obviously from overseas I expected you to upload some content with local cars but I'm wrong and I love another euro car here, don't get me wrong you choose your content ! Also it's always nice to see people admitting their mistakes, the pulley thing, i have put on backwards things countless times. It's refreshing to see honest content . Waiting for more
Love the video 👌🏼 very clear and detailed! And yes as you install the pully backwards i paused drinking my coffee 😂and said OMG 😂😂😂. Working on Rovers will always become and overwhelming project! I’ll be waiting for more videos on this beautiful Discovery 🙏🏻
Thanks for the comment! I’ll be completely building this one or maybe another one at some point and will go into more detail as this is a personal project and not a flip.
I’ve watched some videos in the past of replacing this thermostat. And I’m not positive you put it in the correct place. I believe it goes where the old thermostat is supposed to be but that’s something I’ve been confused about maybe I’m wrong also, I appreciate you posting this video I just bought a 1999 discovery two and need to replace the thermostatas well as hoses
Hey, it is supposed to go where I put it but I cut the upper radiator hose a little too short so it’s not sitting in the exact spot or position that it should. Not a huge issue though seems to be working great where it’s at. Really easy to do on its own, I recommend doing it instead of a stock replacement as the stock one is more restrictive comparatively.
@@everygameonline I believe the 03-04 Discovery 2 will throw a code if you run a 170 since it’s colder than what the engine wants for operating temps. Running too cold can affect different things like MPGs or excessive wear. In this case, running a 170 probably wouldn’t actually affect much as the actual engine temp would likely be a little higher than that depending on conditions of course.
I can see me upgrading the waterpump even though i replaced mine in the winter during a failure. I upgraded the inline already after my headgasket replacement. But i still have my factory rad on my 04. A highflow rad is on my list but with my eyesight being poor cant use my skills anymore to tackle the mods you had to do for your rad upgrade. Still watched as vids like this show the dedication to the Disco 2 community.
There may be better brands making the aftermarket radiator more of a straight swap, I just didn't want to wait for another one. I'll be doing more videos on this Disco as it's a personal project of mine. Thanks for the comment!
Temps are good, they sit around 180 under normal driving conditions but earlier this year on an extremely hot day it got up to about 205-210 . Wondering what other people’s temps are at with a similar setup?
35:09 whats always helped me get clean drains is using an empty gallon milk jug cut to fit where you need and if you want a longer spout you can clamp a hose to the other end and run it down to your collector
You have the patience of a saint. The “F**ks” and “MF’ers” would have been flying out of me during this overhaul. Especially with the broken hose connectors & draining spills. From a future Disco2 owner, thanks for the video!
Hey! I have to edit those out, trust me they are flying! I’ll be doing more videos on this Disco 2 in the future if you’re interested. Are you in the market for one?
Sorry about the radiator.Have the same concerns about the oversized radiator. Thanks for the water pump information. I’m getting one. Did the thermostat mod too. Easy. I also got rid of all the plastic hose connectors, switching to all aluminum, including the overflow bottle. Easy to bleed..just start the car and then run it at 2500rpms for a minute. Only need to do it a few times. Nice video.
Thanks for this video mate! I’ve always read on Disco 2 forums the Nissen rads were the better rads depending on if you have a diesel Td5, petrol V8 and petrol V8 engine with SAI. Allisport is supposed to be the best rad but that is if you want to pay £619/$787 from here in the UK.
I have also read that about the Nissens, I just wanted to go full aluminum not plastic tanks with the aluminum crumpled on. Let’s see how this one holds up! I’ll be doing a build series on the disco in the future, so stay tuned!
The water pump was bad and the radiator had a small hole in the top so both needed to be replaced so I figured I would just do the thermostat at the same time. The temps weren’t higher than normal just wanted to do it as a preventative measure.
About to try to tighten up that bolt on the water pump to try to fix my issue I’m having a lot of leaking from my cooling system in general and it looks similar to the loose bolt that drains coolant in the video
Hey Thanks! I believe it is a GPI Racing that I got it on eBay but I don’t recommend this exact one as it didn’t really fit correctly even though it said direct replacement.
This is a BOSCH engine! Something to remember that BMW bought the Rover group in 94 till 2000 until they broke relations! So the rover engine design was redesigned by BMW 😂😂😂😂 I’m not sure if you know that until Ford came and took over on the catastrophe BMW left for them😁

What would be the issue of using 170° thermostat over 180 wouldn’t you want your engine to run cooler rather than hotter?

They do not like the 170..only 180. Add WaterWetter ..it helps

Saw that immediately, how are the temps doing now?

Great information, good job!

@ I am. Looking for an unmodified ‘04 model in either epsom or giverney green.
Very nice! Love the Giverny, got this one for a good deal I couldn’t pass it up

Hey, I think there may be better fitting aluminum radiators out there. I'll be doing a full off road build on this thing soon so stay tuned!

Hopefully it’s something simple! If not the water pump is a fairly easy job.
@@rebuildrevival I could not get the fan off no matter what I’ve tried everything
@@rebuildrevival thank you though!
Great job, what rad did you get? All the rads available here in Oz won’t fit the D2 V8 Auto.

Great job bro! are you a shop? how much will you charge just to replace a radiator?
Hey thanks! You can message me on Instagram and maybe I can help you out.
@@rebuildrevival will do thanks buddy
170 is 75 celcius so wtf ? This shoudn't be 90 ? Like every car ? So how it work's ?
The original one is 190 Fahrenheit but a lot of people run colder ones to try and keep engine temps down
What a dumb design of cooling system...wow. I'd say, let's play on BMWs ! hahahahahahahah
I’ve got a few more BMWs in the lineup for flips, this one is a personal project of mine. I like these Discovery 2s for some reason!
Gotcha....@@rebuildrevival

@@sal1520 Wasn’t it actually a Buick designed engine? I don’t know much about them but I’m starting to like the Discovery 2 more and more!
