There is a rA9 reference that I didn’t include. To the person who correctly guesses the chapter and location at which it occurs, I could be tempted into doing a viewer request on something from the game. Of course it has to be within reason. :D

It is interesting to see the question of “who is rA9” being answered from the perspective of the many characters within the game starting with the abused android [ Carlos’ Android HK400 ] all the way to the scientist who invented the androids, Kamski.
Personally I like what Luther has to say, but that’s most likely because I love the big lug. XD.

You know what's weird? I noticed that nearly all of the references to RA9 and the description characters give almost always come in threes. Something along the lines of,
"RA9 was the first to awaken"
"RA9 will lead us/ through revolution"
"RA9 will set us all free"
They all line up with the 3 characters you play as.
Kara was the first to awaken (the tech demo)
Markus leads people to freedom and to a revolution
And Connor wake the eventual majority of deviants up and literally sets more Androids free than any other Android had ever done before.
So what if RA9 is actually all 3 of the characters in Detroit become human?
EDIT: a lot of good comments pointed out that since we are the ones controlling the 3 main characters, we ourselves would be RA9. I totally agree with that, that is pretty cool!
Also, about the gender thing of "they say "he" so it must be a man so it can't be Kara" no one knows exactly WHO RA9 actually is, making the fact they say "he" a general guess or assumption. Keep in mind Markus is really kicking ass this whole time, perhaps they see him making waves and decide that "he" is the one to save us, making "him" RA9 in their minds subconsciously?

When Software Instability Increase, there are word appear R9DEVIANT, it is not reveal fully every time, so you may watch it many times to make it clear.
When android encounter instability, they may see this word, so R9 means the status of that android DEVIANT.
RA9 is an awakened R9, the “A” stands for AWAKENED, it is the status of awakened Android deviant.
Android don’t know what it means because they are not awakened, they just feel it, even R9 cannot understand, but they are more likely to feel it, they missed out the “A”.
In the game, we can only see Marcus, Kara and Connor break through the wall (Red one) and awakened, so they are RA9.
I think RA9 is a status instead of a who, what do you think?

Kamski gave a prototype RK-series android to Carl Manfred, someone who is deeply interested in literature and philosophy. Kamski must have known that Carl would influence Markus to think on its own and deviate from his programming.
Kamski gave Connor the knowledge that his programming has an "emergency exit". Kamski knew Connor might join the revolution and yet he further reinforced the chances of an Android victory by letting Connor know how to sever the control that Cyberlife has on him.
But the biggest thing about Kamski is that he knew about the Jericho and yet he kept the secret away from the other humans.
He wanted a revolution.
He wanted them to succeed.
He would probably get some twisted euphoria knowing he has created an intelligent species
Kamski has a lot of effects on Markus and Connor but still, I don't know what he can do with Kara. The tech demo only shows that the first to be awakened is an AX400, named Kara. But the design of that "Kara" is wholly different from the "Kara" in gameplay.
Actually, I think Kara in the gameplay is just the one that becomes deviant at the earliest time among the three, and her love for Alice is the very natural love that can exist in any kind of living species (Motherhood). Like that is the very first love and emotion that most of the human can have at the beginning of their life.

What if Kamski himself was the first android (there might have been a human Kamski in which image the android Kamski was created) but was programmed to have a "free will". This may be far fetched, but it would explain him being RA9. That way he was the first, he was the savior and he freed them by implementing this 'emergency exit' he talks about.

in my opinion rA9 is "something they believe in" comes from the program but they don't realize it or even know about it, they make the assumption that rA9 is an entity, therefore the main character in the game is the one who gives existence to rA9 in the form of (9 revolutionary androids). (rA9)
i think rA9 is some kind of broken codes in their programming, that makes them deviant. if you notice Connor's software instability, you'll see the letters R, A, and 9 beside the deviant when his software became unstable. the deviants probably start seeing the said letters, and assumed, or believed that rA9 woke them up.

RA9 can be anything. It's a title like god or simply a symbol. God can be anything by different definitions. It can be a powerful supreme being or simply the energy of consciousness. Just like how there are tons of religions that define "god" differently. RA9 can be the android term of god. In a way god is a symbol itself. A symbol and label of hope and freedom. This label can apply to many. It can be us as the player who guides the androids to freedom, it can be the Kara android that was the first deviant and spread the deviancy, it can be Markus the leader of Jericho who leads the androids to freedom. RA9 is simply a title or symbol. In the end it has no definitive definition. The fact that we have so many different theories and the fact that even the characters in-game give different answers to what or who RA9 is proves that in a way.
That makes sense actually.
Green Guy Kara was not the first to awaken Markus was as he was walking through the dump he grabbed a stick and stabbed him in the head and took his chip out then Kara did the same while she was at Ralph's house then eventually Connor kept his in but still became deviant as Markus persuaded him to become deviant as S.W.A.T found where Markus and Jericho was located they had to escape by blowing up Jericho as it sank Josh ,Simon,Markus and North all escaped without getting hurt Luther became hurt though sadly but Kara and Alice escaped by playing dead and not doing anything when the guard wasn't looking they ran away while trying to get to the bus they ran into Luther who was about to get killed until Kara hit the guard with a brick Luther and Jerry were saved and got the bus stop and successfully got to Canada. If the Androids win the revolution all androids from the camp were freed so Markus is Ra9

Kara is RA9, kaRA900 is her model, and she was the first to awaken on her assembly line, where she was given mercy by the person building her, she's also the first android in-game to awaken.
I think RA9 is the error code that belongs to the software instability happening in deviants. For example you can see the letters RA9 when Connors software instability rises.
So its something that is implemented in every android. After deviating some androids get overwhelmed by the error messages appearing in the system and get obsessed with RA9. And thus they are missinterpreting it for god / the first android awakening.
So basically noone is RA9 but a character (usually Marcus) can take the role of RA9.

okay people, i have a pretty heavy *theory* , so take a seat and think while you read.
only people that own the game might know that there is *bonus* section in the main selection. when you go in the bonus section you see different bonus contets, including *videos* . when you open that up you see different types of material, including short films and making ofs. scroll in the right end of the section and you will see short film of luther. look it up if you haven’t already.
for those who don’t know, in the video luther sings the same song as markus if you choose to sing while soldiers are surrounding you in protesting ending. as luther sings more and more androids are joining him.
also, when you talk with luther in pirates cove right before jerrys come inside the house, you discover that luther doesn’t remember his life before zlatko. i think luther has been reset, but it still seems he has served zlatko for long, so i think luther must’ve been one of those androids who begged help from him. that means he has been awake for long, maybe he even was the first one to awaken.
of course he says that believes in rA9 himself, but if he doesn’t remember anything before zlatko, he might not remember he is rA9.

It's debatable as to who is rA9. Some people think it's Markus because he ultimately leads the deviants to freedom. Others think it's Kara because of the tech demo that Quantic dream released where she was being assembled and she started to think for herself. All we know is it was the first android to become deviant and I personally think that it was an AX400 model, like Kara, but the Kara we play as in the game isn't rA9. The AX400 model from the tech demo is rA9 because she was the first deviant.
When I watched the trailer for Kara's part I thought it meant that she was the Kara from the tech demo, and that maybe, before Todd and Alice decided on her name, Kara might have told Alice herself and then Alice just pretended that she came up with it.
But that's just my theory.

I believe when they say ra9 is the "first to awaken" it doesn't necessarily mean the first to become deviant, maybe it means the first to wake up, as in decide to rise up and lead..which would make Markus ra9. I don't know why ppl keep saying Kara is ra9 when her storyline doesn't even match up. Just because it showed her becoming deviant in the trailer doesn't mean its a canon. The creators of the game clearly decided to go another direction with her character. And for the people saying Connor could be ra9, i think they are crazed fan-boys.

I think I know who rA9 is. It should be Markus. He was the liberator and the one who guided the androids. People say that Kara was actually the first to awaken but maybe that's not what's meant by awaken. If you think about it, Markus was the first one to think about protesting to humans. Maybe that's what's meant by awaken. This theory wouldn't be completely right though considering Markus became deviant after the 28 stab wounds case but if, while in Carl's house, you decide to play the piano Carl says something like, "You're becoming more human everyday," or something like that and once you get to Jericho Lucy says that he will lead everyone to a revolution. Considering that androids can communicate with each other without talking, it's as if rA9 was mistakenly written into Markus's software and every android was notified. That's my theory

My theory is that ra9 is a combination of a couple of things.
1. the player - we control the actions of the main characters,
2. the game - an interface to let us control the lives of the 3 androids that affect the fate of ALL androids in the Become Human universe,
3. a virus - it is my theory that ra9 IS like an idea - a contagious disease capable of affecting the lives of an individual or a group by changing how they view the world. It spreads like a virus, as well: Markus and Connor, two prototype androids who are clearly unique, gain the ability to spread deviancy to other androids when they themselves become deviant - first through interfacing with the physical shell of other androids, and then, in Markus' case at least, evolving the ability to spread deviancy wirelessly.
It might just be that ra9 is who we are controlling throughout the game - an A.I. that was the first to become sapient, that developed the ability to spread, similar to an airborne virus, from android to android, changing their programming just enough so they could become sapient themselves, and choosing three specific androids to influence/control that it thought would be able to influence the outcome of the android uprising, and the future of the android "race".
Again, this was just a theory.

I kind of think of rA9 as the program "malfunction" that leads them to becoming deviant, like a set of instructions. I was thinking that because every time Connor's programming grows more unstable "R" and "9" starts showing up. Maybe "A" is for android? ... Or "A" as in the first to go through R9. Like rB9 rC9, etc. That would mean the first android to awaken. Which leads us right back to the first question "who is rA9?" Ah well. 😕 I give up. 😋

I think that our Kara in rA9. Maybe the Kara tech demo short is canon and the Kara from that was the first android to awaken. It would make sense because she could have spread the ‘virus’ of deviancy before she was reset after being destroyed by Todd. Maybe that’s why Kara never talked about rA9?

Markus was supposed to be RA9, he just didn't know it. He was sent as a gift from Kamsky himself to the artist. Seems like a very specific choice of recipient. Somebody wise and fatherly in a controlled enviornment. Also, note that the rx700 model who was taking care of him later in the game didn't seem to change at all after being awakened by markus, he will most likely keep doing his job as any employee with a decent boss would, maybe requesting some extra free time or payment at the most.
In a trailer they saif the ra9 spreads like a virus.They spread when ra9 is near them.In the tech demo for Kara she was a deviant, the first on Of course She requested to be spared. 1) in way when u play the game u are an android (u control one) and u disagree with most of the things humans do to androids (which makes u in a way a deviant android). that makes u the first deviant android (rA9) since ur able to disagree with humans before u even know deviants are a thing, ur the first one of ur kind
2) by making the right choices, u, as a player can make the right choices in order to create a successful android revolution. that makes u the being who will "free us all" (rA9 once again)

My theories about rA9:
There is a 2013 short about Kara, it shows how they created her and at one point she "thought" and obviously the androids do not think, then they want to disarm her and Kara starts to say that she does not want to be disarmed because she wants to "live" and is afraid then, they leave it armed, what I want to achieve with this is that Kara possibly is rA9 because if we shoot Chloe, Kamski tells us that rA9 is the first deviant and Kara was the first to "think" and feel "fear".
There is also a part in the short where they ask Kara to sing a song in Japanese and she sings "Sakura", and in the place where they shot Markus, where there were many androids that were no longer useful, if we keep looking, we can find with Kara singing the same music but with a more robotic tone and finally ending up turning off.
Also a fact that is interesting is that the game disc on the right side down says "rA9" and we can be rA9 since you make your own story in the game and obviously everything depends on the decisions you make, as you see, there are infinite options in this game.
BTW I speak spanish so sorry for the spelling mistakes and parts that may not make sense.

As I'm watching this video I have a theory
I think kamski knew that deviancy would occur because of connor . Think about it connor was "designed" to stop deviants and even though deviancy had recently started (beginning of the game) connor was still created I thought he would have just been an android detective but you dont see any of them in the game so he obviously knew that the revolution would start he just didnt know when it would start that's why he left cyberlife so he could hopefully "hide" from the revolution
I think Kara, Markus and Connor are rA9! Because Kara is the first deviant, Markus lead androids to freedom and Connor help them by free more androids! So I'm sure that Kara and Markus and Connor are rA9, but it's my opinon. I'm not sure but sure at the ame time! I think rA9 are them, that's why three of them are the main characters! But u guys don't think I'm right, then tell me why are they main characters? The director wants us to make the main characters aka Kara, Markus and Connor become rA9 and save those androids! People don't realise that the "deviancy virus" will become dormant if Kara is reset. This explains why she is "normal" when she returns to Todd's house. Not only this, but the AX400 line was created in 2032 (6 years before DBH), meaning she was the true deviant. According to Connor, the first REPORTED case was nine months prior to the events of the game, yet Kara's deviancy pre-dates literally any android.
rA9 is like planting a successful bomb.
Kara - Planted the "bomb" inside other androids through interaction.
Connor - Freed thousands off androids from CyberLife tower, arming the "bomb".
Markus - Leads the androids to freedom, detonating the "bomb".
The android uprising would be impossible without all three.
And also , at the end of the game , the model of the 3 main (first letter + first letter + first number) android is RA9

Maybe Markus is rA9. Maybe "the first to awaken" doesn't mean to become deviant themselves, but to awaken the other androids.... and I'm pretty sure that Markus was the first to start converting or 'awakening' the other androids.

Jerry Tomas First of all, we don’t know God exists. Second of all, we don’t know if RA9 is a capable of having a gender (just like god) because we don’t know what it is.
Most concepts of God don’t define God as a being possible of having a gender, but “he” is just the most common pronoun to use. And I think at some point Connor says that a female Android is not a woman but a machine designed to look like one.

I think all 3 main characters are rA9 - Kara, Markus, Connor. Kara is the first android to awaken (2012), Marcus set the androids free and so do Connor if You choose him to become a deviant.

You have to lock the door after you enter the Server room with North.
When you saw 2 guards near the Boardcast room, chose Ruse, when you move closer to the guards, draw your gun (Markus just used his gun to knock guards out). After you enter the Boardcast room with Simon's group, there is one human will try to run away, chose Shoot to kill that human. So Simon can escaped without getting hurt by guard or SWAT.
