Thanks man, was trying to figure out the diagnostic disconnection it calls for on the emmisions tag, now I know. Thanks again
Glad to help!
I was like duh, everything else is on you tube. So thanks again
yes have changed oil, every thing looks great, rattle didn't start till i replaced O2 sensor, only happens when I first step on gas then clears up on noise sounds like some thing in exhaust pipe.also has very low RPM when first give gas wants to bog down someone says throttle position sensor but have hear everything under the sun replaced distributoe cause coil had crack and had high millage.
no, will do, also new fuel pump and filter has been installed seemed to help a little.
What if the engine light and O/D light just keep flashing at the same rate? I replaced the distributor on my Prizm, adjusted the timing to 10 degrees. The car fires right up and runs perfect but will drop RPM for an instance and the engine light flashes (almost like the ignition got cut for a split second). Can pull any codes?
thanks what is the correct distributor timing on toyota corolla 1999 4afe engine..?end what cost if the car have ah knocking sound while acceleration and driving. thank you
Nice clear and concise video. Thanks.
hi MR. thanks for your informations it was very useful. You won a brazilian friend, sorry my english mistakes, i´m learning english hahahaha
Thanks for the view. Good luck on your fixes. If you have questions you can ask. Good luck learning English. I have a Brazilian friend now.
Direct fit,Parts guy also asked if upstream or down stream, only have one -upstream also catalytic converter looks to have been changed and did not start making this noise till I changed the O2 sensor.also noticed damage to fuel tank but could not see any damage to converter.Checked if It should have a down stream O2 sensor and could not see any indication that one had been removed and not installed.
Have you checked for any Metal shavings in the oil?
motor mounts replaced. still vibrates. AIC valve cleaned. better. could the timing belt/pulley be going bad-loose? same car.
watched your video and followed every step, when placing paper clip in data link my RPM did not raise up like yours did and had to advance to very high so that engine would run smooth at park, but when driving skips very bad, replaced distributor plugs and wires.still same thing.any sugestions
+Michael Williams What year do ya have? You might have a bad connection on the inside of the diagnostic link connector. When you jump e1 + t1 does the check engine light come on?
Don't know if you are still reading comments for this video but our 1995 Corolla (1.6l) failed the Nitrous Oxide emissions test. One guy says to drive the car for at least 1 1/2 hour before testing, another says to adjust the timing. A 3rd guy says to add SeaFoam. What do you folks suggest?
Are you in California? How high was the O2 on the smog? I don't know off the top of my head, do you have a egr valve?
@@ScottiesHobbies , YES we live in CA. Our Nitrous Oxide Reading was 635 (at 15 MPH), and the MAX allowed in CA is 504. What is bizarre is that the Nitrous Oxide test passed at 25 MPH??. Can't get much of a vacuum on the EGR so I am looking into that
I have a '96 Corolla 1.8 & my friend advanced the timing (idk why) when he was able to start the car without the alternator connected (he replaced my crankshaft seal) & now when I try to floor it, it hesitates when its trying to shift into another gear (I have the 4 speed auto with O/D) but when I drive it normally, it shifts fine
can I fix it by only adjusting the distributor? cause I don't have a timing light & want to bring my timing back to factory so I can floor it (if I wanted to) or drive it a bit faster so my car doesn't hesitate at all anymore
ok and when I finish setting the time can I remove the clip with the car still on?
You. Can take it out running or not. I would atleasr turn it off and back on when I was done.
Quick question, I am thinking rebuilding my 2001 Toyota Corolla Le, 216k miles still runs, But how can I time check & adjust when does not use a distributor?
+Walter Castro You would have to check it by the OBDII system. I don't think its adjustable at all on that model.
also do not know if I told you but has 195,000 miles all items on car were what came on vehicle new.fuel filter had a lot of dirt in it could injectors be stopped up?
Do you remember the code is that the vehicle was originally giving you? Was it O2 sensor dead? O2 sensor lien? 02 Center Ridge? A clogged fuel filter might cause a lean condition which can cause a vehicle to run poorly.
Have you checked with the fuel pressure?
Quick question, I recently replaced my entire distributor assembly and now that I drive it, it's super sluggish. It has no power until over 2500 rpm :O does this mean timing needs to be adjusted?
It's quite possiable. Did you time it after you replaced the distributer? But it could be a number of things. If you timed it when you did the replacement then I doubt that's your prob.
I did not time it :( all I did was take out the old distributor and installed the new one in. I honestly thought there was only one way to put it in, and I didn't know about adjusting it, which I will give it a try later.
+pickatchew, A half ass way to time it by ear is to adjust the distributer to the highest rpm at idle and back off maybe a millimeter. But the right way is with a timing light so you know you are on point.
I did the half ass way hahaha but just for the time being, I don't have the timing light tool. Except it's running like normal now.
How can we do it without timing light?
A mechanic will usually charge 1/2 hour labor to do this job. If you don't have a timing light, you might consider paying a mechanic around $45.
Do I need to put it in base timing mode before I can adjust the timing? The previous owner replaced it without checking the timing and the car runs really sluggish on 1st gear. Thanks?
Same car 1995 corolla dx 1.8
Ye, put the csr in base timing mode wile adjusting the ignition timing.
Just turn A tiny bit and see which way the mark moves. It should only have to move a CM or 2 to get on the mark.
O2 sensor bad or shorted, would clear code drive to work next morning all good, start home in afternoon and light
would come on again.don't remember the code
All this started months ago when check engine light came on ,said O2 sensor bad or shorted, replaced O2 sensor and made engine rattle like a can of bolts hanging underneath, have replaced fuel pump, filter and air filter reset timing several times and gets worse
+Michael Williams is the check engine light coming back on now? Did you get a universal o2 sensor or a direct fit? The rattling is worrisome. It might be the catalytic converter being broke into small pieces. If its actually coming from the motor, you might have blown the bearings in the lower end of the motor and its just time til a piston pops out the side of the block.
Did it end up blowing up
Merhaba.diagnostik üzerinde T1 ,E1 köprümü yapıyoruz
howd you get that yellow dot (zero mark)?
On this engine, the indicator Timing mark is very easily and very often covering the timing mark on the pulley. I usually push back the timing indicator with a long screwdriver. I usually use white or yellow nail polish or white out on the end of a long flat head screwdriver to Mark the timing marks before I do the timing inspection.
What if my corolla CE has electronic ignition system
No distributor? Just coil packs?
Can you adjust timing on a 1994 geo prize lsi 1.8 just bye turning the distributor without a timing light
Hello there. how much did you set the ignition timing to? do not normally have to be 10 degrees? you have set the bottom line 0 a. do not you need to set the line in the middle ie 10? Could you write what you told me on the video here? I do not know english. if you write here we can translate and you will have better moments.
FHM GARAJ the mark on the pulley should line up with the 10 degree mark. Make sure the diagnostic link connector is jumped first. That gets the computer to base timing mode.
I mean I have to bring the mark on the crankshaft to the top of the block with 10 fixed figures.

+FHM GARAJ yes. The line on the pulley needs to line up with the 10 mark on the indicator.
thank you so much.
