The game up to ringing the first bell is probably the best designed “level” of any game ever made. It’s flawless. Never had a greater sense of satisfaction in any game ever!
Eventually you get to a point, after many deaths, that this area becomes second nature, and it’s kind fun and familiar to go through it. Like a theme park
That's the best part. Even after just beating the game once, starting a fresh new game is a completely different experience since you know where all the traps and ganks are. It makes it feel like a whole new experience even though it's something you've already done before & is a great reward for having pushed through the first time blind.
Started a new playthrough recently as the dark souls remastered version went on sale on steam for the first time. It increased the player base significantly.
More and more people are discovering this masterpiece of a game that created a new genre, single handedly made hard games mainstream cool again, made existensial crisis in games a popular theme, made lore hunting and theorizing an art, and influenced numerous games, movies, and shows. Perhaps the most referenced game in other video games and even other mediums. 20 years from now, people will still talk about this legendary IP.
@@pugetsoundwavesCause those games are more easily played through. Also have been around little bit longer. But you can see how dark souls is included in the list of games that changed gaming forever.
There's a certain point where you and the game just "click" and everything comes together. Where you finally get it. Undead Burg is a great way to show you the ropes while not giving you the win.
No video game open world will ever top Lordran. The sprawling areas, verticality, and level design truly keeps the game unique even compared to the rest of the franchise.
Dark souls 1 map design and game design in general, will always remain special. To all the weaklings(not counting exceptions) asking for an easy mode - Git Gud.
Just beat him last week. My advice, take your time on the run back to the boss after each death. If you just try running through the monsters you’ll get clapped.
Also how does it feel on switch? I’ve been dying to get it on switch for a while but worried about how the controls feel and dodge rolling using those joy con sticks. And how do the joy cons feel compared to a Ps4 or Xbox controller when it comes to combat and movement ?
Capra himself is very basic and not worthy of being a "boss" so they put the hyper aggressive dogs in with him. Use the stairs to your advantage, stay calm, kill the dogs then it's a breeze.
The undead Burg should have been the *FIRST and ONLY* Level the player should have been able to investigate at the beginning. The tombs to the left and the Ruins of Anor Londo to the right from the First Bonfire are Just a very BAD entrance for a new player
That’s the entire point of why they let players go that way, the world is fully open but only if you can handle where you need to go, you’re suppose to learn that you need to get better before you go back there
Honestly there’s other fromsoftware games that does this better last raven arena and early Ac missions, verdict days first and second primary mission, and for answers act 1
If you play DS after Sekiro the game becomes a WHOLE LOT easier. Parrying the black knights is super easy after beating Sekiro. Parrying most enemies in DS is easy after playing Sekiro.

These ‘Art of the Level’ videos are easily becoming my favorite series.

Dark Souls is legendary for sure. But there are definitely IPs that get referenced far more; Mario, Zelda, GTA...
It's The Ocarina of modern times.

What movies did it influence?
"Teaches Through Suffering". That should be Dark Souls franchise trademark.

NGL undead burg is what showed me the real appeal of souls like games .
Dark soul 1 will always for me be special and the best in the series... Such a masterpiece ❤️❤️👍👍

DS is simply iconic. Period.
Yes, it was a great console.
Bloodborne may be a masterpiece. But Dark souls will always be iconic.
Dark Souls is better than Bloodborne
Dark Souls is THE masterpiece lol. You got it backwards, pal.

Doing his best Vati impression
Welcome to IGNVidya
Dark Souls 1 and Demon's Souls are almost daily in my thoughts. Such an awesome pair of games.
playing for the first time and just made it to undead parish… the timing of this video
Same!
GoodLuck man, and don't you dare go hollow
Have fun!
Perfectly narrated.
The learning curve through Undead Burg is unparalleled in any other game.
IGN been binge watching Vaati Vidya and decided they wanted to just do it themselves.
Doesn’t matter how many dark souls vids are out there if there’s a new one I’m in 😁
This was posted as I’m playing my first play through of dark souls 1
This game surpassed my imagination of what it might have felt like playing a version of Ocarina of Time where Ganondorf ruled over Hyrule.
3:20 whatever this dude said made me laugh, fromsoft had him that way so you would go for a backstab and instead get annihilated.
Great and true proof of love for one of the most brilliant game of all time.
This was an amazing video
It should be a lesson to game developers everywhere that such an objectively imperfect and unfinished game can be such an untouchable masterpiece
Everyone makes cool theories about dark souls lore and talk about the incredible game design. Fromsoft we just thought undead burg looked cool.
Wasn’t this already uploaded 7 months ago? Talk about deja vu.
Please keep doing these about more games!!!
sounds like a high school essay where the teacher allowed students to pick the theme
From software : prepare to die!!!
Speedrunner: what are you talking about
Kalameet is one of my favorite bosses and cutting his tails one of the biggest challenges

This is a re-upload? Still a fantastic video but I've definitely seen this before.
Love this game! One of the best games ever played. So had and frustrating but yet helps with depression so much
Unfortunately many people aren't willing to learn what the game is trying to teach them. They just want an easy mode.
DarkSouls and their variants are not to everyone
Just 2 dozen more areas to cover, Continue!
if the player already understands the basics of how to play, that's where the fun game begins
cannot express my love for From Soft enough
Learning to parry turns that black knight into a joke
Im actually making my way through it right now!
The voice and quality of analysis are super similar to that of @Hawkshaw, easily the best Dark Souls lore channel on TH-cam

Very solid analysis , i m digging this series
The ultimate game of all time.
Blighttown embodies all the best and most oppressive aspects of a Souls level so that's my choice.

Just starting this game, so excited
Getting through Undead Burg confirms your own completion of the game
I’d reserve that for Anor Londo. Once you complete the precise midpoint of the game, you’re in for the finish line, guaranteed.
What is the purpose of the IGN Games channel, when the video is uploaded again on the main IGN channel?
@1:05 the double great bow silver knights to get to solaire in anor londo was very unfair still fun but unfair as F
great job on this video
Literally a perfect game. Thanks for doing content on it
loved this video!
Why the reupload?
