That's a great sounding engine and suits the plane well. Sorry to hear about the engine damage. Sometimes you just have to "Tune people out"...you have your hands full enough when stuff like this happens. Fine looking plane, and good job getting it back down dead stick like that!
The pilot was very lucky to have an expert bystander just at the right moment to give precise instructions on how to land his airplane ("keep it flat", "gear up", "rudder! rudder! rudder! rudder!"). Had it not been for that valuable help, I'm sure the pilot wouldn't have had the first idea of what to do to land the airplane and it would have fallen out of the sky.

Love the comments from the "peanut gallery". Reminds me of a fellow who asked me why I was making CCW circles while flying my glider in a thermal. I told him I was right handed and he shut up. The pilot in this video knew his airplane and his capabilities, enough said.

Very often the best flyers were flying some beaten up hack and practised their skills to the very edge and beyond without worrying terribly about crashing. But again, plenty of exception to what I found to be the rule.
You can recognize a great pilot by his takeoff and landing skills, and this guy's skills are superb! He exercises precise rudder control while advancing the throttle slowly, thereby minimizing the torque swing on takeoff, which would be substantial, given the torque output of a Moki 5 cylinder radial. His flight manuevering is smooth, controlled, and perfectly "to scale." He pulls up immediately when the motor goes south, to convert energy to altitude, and of course, he nails the deadstick while landing downwind/crosswind... And some blowhard in the pits feels the need to provide THIS guy with landing tips? Just one more reason I prefer to fly ALONE!
Fantastic model! I really like the way you've routed the exhaust. For me the more authentic the better. Probably the best I've seen, right down to the markings.
Don't bark crap from the pits, the level is already high enough on a engine failure. Let his co-pilot/spotter keep him focused and ONLY give info when absolutely necessary. Nice save and a very nice Corsair.
Would be nice to know what happened there, no mention of the cause ?? The way the prop went into freewheel, tells me the crankshaft and the pistons have parted company. Not knowing the insides of the new moki 5, i know not how the connecting rods are fixed. It did sound expensive though, but a very nice save by the pilot, despite the idiot with the loud mouth barking RE-KIT in the background.....

Landing a model is the hardest part, even under ideal conditions. I'm 58, have been flying r/c planes for 30+ years, but gave it up about 4 years ago when I crashed my beautiful Corsair that took 2 years and $3000 to build. I have no idea what happened, I had flown it successfully several times before. It simply stopped responding to control inputs. I believe the problem was either in the transmitter or receiver. It was a crushing loss, especially the two years I spent building it. Just not going to do it again.
Sir. The flight of your aeromodel was very beautiful. Before the flight, on the taxiway, and also on the landing, the tires were under very high pressure. I believe that if you lower the tire pressure, the model will no longer take to the side, (like overturning). With the tire pressure lower, there will be a smoother twist of tire rubber in contact with the asphalt runway. I hope I have cooperated with you. Hugs here from the south of Brazil. Nice job on the deadstick landing. Had a deadstick on a Corsair myself a few years ago. Managed to belly mine into high grass without any major damage too. It'll get the adrenaline pumping.

I bit of entertainment (I had to press "like"). Good to see you got it down all right (and you only have one shot at it). lol well done

I really liked watching the plane. It seems rather big and some bucks were put into that engine which sounded awesome! Good dead stick landing! Did you run out of fuel, or did you have an engine failure? What happened?
How slowly does this MOKI engine idle... is there perhaps a flywheel on it? This engine also has a beautiful sound.....I am an old RC pilot of 73 years old, I used to fly in the 70s and 80s and then had to stop because I could no longer move my neck due to Bechterew....and Of course you have to be able to look up and to the left and right with RC flying. My RC aircraft at the time included a Piper J3 Cub with a 3 meter wingspan, on which was a 1-cylinder 2-stroke MOKI of 35cc and a Graupner Bell 212 twinjet helicopter... I like watching these kinds of videos.
These Moki engines have exposed push rods and been known to spit them out when revved. He was lucky to bring the Corsair back to the field unscathed for such a large model....

The real radials sound awesome, like a big V8 but ten times more mean. The Caribou plane has two 2,000 hp 14 cylinder radials. And when it takes off, the sound goes right through your chest. In a YT video of the Ford Tri Motor (old plane) it has 3 x 450 hp radials. It was filmed from inside the cabin of the 1930's plane and... did it sound awesome when taking off! lol
No doubt! In the air though it revs too high and sounds like a V-8, but on the ground, idling or low power settings, holy cow! If only someone would build a scale constant speed prop to keep the RPMs down in the air!
What people don't really understand is that you don't hear anyone when you concentrate really hard. I doubt the pilot even heard the guy trying to help him land.
You are absolutely right - I have had the same happen to me, and I had lots of time to turn the model, look around to make sure the runway was free, check the speed, lower flaps and lift the low wing, and feel for the runway - lots of time, and it wasn't till I saw the video that I heard the people yelling advices to me. And that lots of time was around 12 seconds.
Beautiful job of building and certainly of flying - no question. Curious as to the cause of the engine out though. Thanks for posting, it gives me more inspiration to get in to my shop and get building.
sounded to me like maybe over-rev...gotta pull the throttle back in a dive...or due to fuel starvation,which then caused the over-rev as the last fuel was burnt in the chamber.
Considering there was no pilot in inside the cockpit, I thought the landing was very good! Seriously, that must be a heart stopping experience and I, for one, could not take it. All that work, dedication and money in the balance.

How many rpm is that, like 4,600? Was it over revving when it blew? Sounds like it is spinning faster than most other videos of 250 cc radials.

Justwantahover no actually the Caribou had 2 14 cylinder Pratt & Whitney R-2000's which were rated at 1450 HP for five minutes.
on the flyby it sounds like a 5 cylinder from an audi quattro(really good)
