What is the EVAP Charcoal Canister?

My car smells so much like gas sometimes and in the inside too could this be the problem ? Plus smoke comes out of my exhaust sometimes but my car isn't overheating or anything
Hi I tested the sensor, it works very well but does not work on the car, I tested the wires the first has 12 volts and the second o volt, how do I know where the wire is cut

Hello Hvac Machanic, i am using the same Lexus RX300, 1999 model engine 1MZFE. the accident was made by swap/connecting the Vacuum Surge Tank pipe to the water outlet there just below it. The system was filled with water until the water comes out at The Charcoal Canister through the Air Drain Horse. We have tried to remove the water by sucking and blowing through the pipes and even put the new service kit since we found some plugs socked in water. but still the car wont start but cranks. what advice can you give sir
I know this is an old video but did you get it fixed. I did the same thing 😅 and now have misfires and poor performance. 04 lexus es330
@@richardburlingame5708 yeah,, thanks i had it fixed. i had to empty clean the fuel tank, put a new canister, new plugs, new fuel filter and ran the fuel pump in a new fuel to clean it thoroughly and it run perfectly. patience worked for me as i did all those
¿Problems with the charcoal canister or vent valve can cause P2279 (intake leak) code and rough idle?
My W12 Bentley has P2279 that appears only in Bank 1 and ECU 1 as well some misfires in all 6 cylinders of Bank 1, I already replaced the EVAP purge solenoid and both banks PCV valves and worked fine for a while, but condition still persist.
I did a smoke test from different points in the intake and vaccum hoses and no leaks werre detected
Note, Bank 1 is the responsible to burn the vapors of the charcoal canister in this engines.
It will need to be diagnosed, but the purge valve is the only EVAP component that can affect the engine; since it was replaced and not stuck open, there likely is an intake leak somewhere.

My 2003 Hyundai Elantra is throwing a p0451, and the it takes forever and a day to fill with gas. Thing is; I only recently got the error code. The problem with filling the tank has been going on for 4 years. I’m trying to get this fixed as soon as possible, at one time. So my question is, should I replace both the canister and vent valve? And will replacing both of those parts clear the p0451 code? Thank you
The vent valve would need to be tested to know for sure if it has failed; hard to fill with gas is a common symptom of a vent valve stuck closed.

A P0451 code is an issue with the Fuel Tank Pressure sensor, which is a part of the EVAP system. All these components need to be tested to know what the problem is.
I have the problem only when I fill up the tank at the gas station, with the engine on it starts running bad and eventually shut off.... What could be ? Only the valve ?
If u fill ur gas tank with the engine running the gas cap is OFF showing a large evap leak. Mine only showed if l added gas after the hose shut off. So stop over filling the tank & see.
l have a 2009 Ford f150 V8 4.6 runs fairly good but it has a code number P0446 with engine light on, what do you think is the problem? Thanks
A P0446 Code is an "Evaporative Emission Control System Vent Control Circuit Malfunction." There is an issue with the vent valve or the wires going to the vent valve.

My gas tank is leaking I realized today after smelling gas. Idk if that’s the tank needing to be patched up or possibly the Evap charcoal canister. Also my error code is P0456 is says “very small leak”.

Did you replace to charcoal canister? I got the same code. I’m reading somewhere that if you overfill your car allot it can ruin it too.

My 06 rav4 put out a p0441 code i changed the purge valve, new gas cap, maf sensor, both 02 sensors, all spark plugs, new coolant ... idk anymore im going to try the old kseal tomorrow
I got the same code p0441 and changed all the parts above and even smoke tested but no leak found :( how about ur car now?
Could it cause a loss of power and or shaking at idle?

Usually, the Evap system does not affect the engine unless the purge valve is stuck open. If the purge valve is stuck open, it can let gas vapor into the engine, which can cause issues.
Smoke tested my ram an it comes out the bottom of the canister is that mean it’s bad
The only component that might leak is the vent valve. It can vary on the vehicle when the computer opens and closes the vent valve. It is also a normally open valve that is open when there is no power. If it is leaking out of the vent valve, I would test it and see if it is good.
Right it’s not it’s coming out of the canister out of the bottom not sure if that’s a seald component or not
