  • Reflecting on how we were taught to pray for the death of “apostates” - ex members who had “the light” and “lost the light” because they chose to speak out about the abuses they suffered at the hands of the Exclusive Brethren or the Plymouth Brethren Christian Church.

I'm thrilled to hear that you don't live in fear of impending doom. You're obviously very mentally strong. Well done. Take care.

Yes Ben. You are speaking the literal truth. When the Leader of the Cult was asked in Church what it meant to pray for a persons 'Removal' he replied "removal from this Earth". It's in his printed 'ministry'.
Personally they have had many 'special' prayer meetings in their 'charitable' 'churches' for my death. That is sad, but also pretty silly. What really appalls is that my beloved sons and grandsons down kindergarten age have to get up and pray for their father / grandfather to be 'removed'. 😪

It might be an idea for you to look to the Bible to find a way to effectively communicate your message. Plymouth Brethren are Sola Scriptura. An example you could use is the parable of the lost sheep. Present a hypothetical where as an apostate in their eyes you may just be lost spiritually. When the sheep is lost the Shepard doesn't just take a 12 gauge to it. Ask what would Jesus as written in scripture do in this situation. And remember for both them and you Matthew Chapters 6 & 7. I don't agree with all of your stances as I am a Christian myself however the absolute shunning isn't inline with scripture and I don't blame you for holding different beliefs based on your experience.

But the Exclusive Brethren aren’t “sola scriptura” - they don’t live their beliefs “by scripture alone”. Their ideology and beliefs are taken from one man “the elect vessel” / “man of god” or as they also call it “Paul of our Day”. This aside I’m taking about my experiences in this century so why would use a book that’s 3500 years old to “effectively communicate” my message when my experiences are from this century. I’m happy for others to have differences of opinion- that’s what makes us human ✌🏻

@@excultboy that would be the point to make with scripture to them as they in function are not sola scriptura. As for the 3500 year old book it has a lot of wisdom in the book outside of the history of the Jewish people and their religious beliefs. A fair few common sense sayings are just the proverbs of King Solomon. These sound very different to the brethren I have met here in England. Especially the whole Paul of our day thing that's definitely not inline with Christianity. I was more talking for the effective communication towards your family who are stuck in the cult. Matthew chapter 7 is basically an instruction from Christ that we should not pass judgment on others for what we see as them sinning as we too are judged by the same measure. Matthew 6 is about treating people as we would like to be treated. I would really be interested in chatting with you about your experience. I have many questions about what it's like and how their theology is taught/practiced. I have met Christians who seem culty as individuals even and I personally think of Hillsong as a cult but a subtle one.
