I pulled my crosstour’s j35z2 in my driveway on jackstands. @@packerman1203 well yeah but when you’re doing just a transmission job, its always more ideal to be able to take just the transmission off and leave the engine seperate
Depending on how a car is driven, a clutch can last hundreds of thousands of miles. It is a wear surface that only gets worn when it is being slipped to take off. My VW TDI had over 500,000 on it with the origional clutch. But it was really only ever driven on the highway, so it didnt change gears often. Meaning the clutch didnt really receive any wear when it say at highway speeds for 8 hours a day.

I got 175k miles on an original clutch on my Ep3 Si. I even threw boost at it and it held up for nearly 20k miles. Once the clutch obliterated itself I upgraded it- and the transmission to a Type R 6 speed and LSD completely changed that car. Wish I still had it 🫰 But it’s all in how nice you are on your clutch and knowing how to properly drive stick that makes clutches last that long
Those honda clutches last forever. My aunt gave me her 05 5 speed manual accord when I went to college and that thing had 230k miles on it with the original clutch. I replaced the clutch bc that's wayyy too sketchy but that original clutch did not slip once and I know for a fact that she never got the clutch replaced. I changed the clutch on my 7th gen Accord 6 speed without removing the subframe. You're the only other person I've seen do this. The trick is drop it in from the top and to have a spare alignment tool and cut it down to about 4". It'll fit right in and hold the flywheel in while you do the rest. Oh, when I went to replace the rear main seal I discovered whoever did the clutch the last time just sealed it with RTV......
Commenting near the beginning of the video… I’m praying that you end up deleting the clutch slave cylinder check valve… not doing that is the fastest way to obliterate a clutch in these v6 Hondas if you shift quickly
I also did upgraded mounts on my old mk7 R, great upgrade for sure. The next step for you is the dieselgeek 6speed shifter kit. Makes the whole experience so much better lol.
J37 manifolds are basically the same as the 08-12 accord v6-6. If you want a bit of a bigger manifold then the 13-17 accord v6 ones will do but clearance for the p/s pump is an issue because they all had EPS and there’s no butterfly valve controlling the internal runners. The zdx throttle is always a good upgrade for any drive by wire honda.
Would definitely drop the whole subframe next time. Just so much easier to do the clutch like that. I've done it both ways on different cars and dropped the subframe twice on my 04-6 speed. Wouldn't do it another way. Awesome to see some easy mods like that done to one of these. Looking forward to the track video!
Making me miss my old 7th gen. Clean build man. If you haven't already, look up "check valve delete" for the clutch slave cylinder. Also swap to AC Delco friction modified transmission fluid. 7th gens like it better than Honda MTF, made my transmission smoother than Honda MTF. AV6 is one solid car, need me another Jseries.
