Near death experience is not a death experience, it's in the name, it's near, you're alive, your consciousness or whatever is left of it is still there being processed by your brain.

How you guys can deal with this every week , I don't know.. I hate talking religion to religious people. They just go nutty and it freaks me out that I thought they were normal until they started talking about their religion.
I used to enjoy it, until I realized that not only do they not listen to a word said that goes against their beliefs, but their willingness to be intentionally ignorant, seeing it as a virtue.

I used to look at it the same why I looked at my atheism - that is, it is a position on one single issue, being the belief in a deity. I have no idea what a sin might be but Norwegian law naturally prevails here, giving me no reason to change anything I do. Even if I wanted to, I’d have no idea how to “repent”. This conversation really wandered; I do enjoy that at one part, when the caller was on the whole "...no greater love..." tangent, it was evident the caller was trying desperately to bob and weave and avoid Tracy's much better example of a greater love, in order to say "well according to my specific example, my example is perfect!"

For that concept of a god to exist, it would ultimately be the source of everything in existence. Good, bad, or indifferent. To say it's the source of love, but not say it's the source of hate, is contradictory.

I had two sets of pet rants and they have what humans would call a "personality". They are no all carbon copies all acting the same. I have had over a dozen dogs in my life and no two were the same. Even when I worked at a dairy farm for a few weeks on cow would push all the other cows away so I could pet her head. One always wanted to lick my face. None of this is proof for an afterlife it just means all living things at a higher level have feeling and emotions. I don't think bacteria does however.

15:42 “…no greater love than laying down your life for a loved one.” The caller also added the soldier jumping on the grenade to save the fellow soldiers. - This is not the greatest love, that could be just a reflex action for the greater good. He might be saving people who are complete strangers to him.
The greatest love is arguably the person who cares for another for a very extended time period. That takes daily commitment after constant inflection of whether to do it day after day, regardless of the impact on your life.

Ok as a rat lover I've had several that would come to me when they would know I'm crying or depressed I've had 1 that would literally follow me everywhere for months until my friend got home because she knew I was that depressed ect

One of the reasons why humans, especially mothers feel so much "love" towards their young, is that human babies are one of the most useless and work-demanding of all nature, so the prevalence of loads of oxitocyn and other hormones binding them to their babies secured their survival and the reproduction of those with the most "love". In nature you will find that mammals tend to show more "motherly love", as the babies depend on the mothers for everything, and in mammals or other animals that produce fewer young are usually the ones with the most protective and present mothers or parents. It's not really metaphysical, it's just survival.
The idea that “laying down your life for another man is the greatest example of love” is ridiculous! It reads like military propaganda. The easy part of laying down your life for others is that it takes very little time & almost no follow through. A soldier throws their body on a grenade to save another, is a sacrifice that takes only a few seconds.
Rather the greatest example of love in the universe is the instinctual love that new mothers have to protect their young. Not only will a new mother willingly fight to the death for their kids, they do the much harder sacrifice, which is to spend every day for half their lifetime caring & sacrificing for their families. There is no greater love than a good mom.
Has anyone noticed that other programs like " Glenn Beck" will go off into a religious rant and out of no where they stop and try to sell you something? So so serious until it's commercial time and then you learn your dog food is not good for your dog and you need to switch for your dogs sake..? God gets put on hold for a dog food commercial..!

There are many stories of self-sacrifice that predate the bible, especially the New Testament. Antigone and Alcestis come to mind.
The soldier analogy is flawed, He does not sacrifice himself because he loves his colleagues ... he does it because losing one is better (strategy) than losing many. It is numbers, not love.

This guy sounds like a defense attorney desperately trying to defend his clearly guilty client, so he's throwing everything at the wall hoping something will stick. And by "clearly guilty client" I mean "BS belief in the invisible magic man in the sky and his book of magic stories."

Wolves have this thing that can happen to the pack. A single wolf has gotten stuck in a tar pit. Instead of leaving the individual to its fate, the pack will decimate itself teying to save its troubled member. Wolf after wolf will get stuck trying to pull the first one out yo then trying yo help the rest.
This is not a good survival trade off nor is it a power play. They simply love the menbersbof their pack and will die trying yo save them
That empathy is a great survival trait. In other circumstances, it can lead to the pack saving their member in distress. The flaw in your scenario for the wolves wasn’t that they were empathetic, it’s that they didn’t have the knowledge and/or physical capabilities to save their buddy safely.
@@Leith_Crowther That wasn't a flaw. Empathy doesn't require resourcefulness. Just because they fail, doesn't mean they lack empathy. And many other species leaves the troubled member behind. They die instead of leave behind. That's the evidence. Your model becomes unfalsifiable because you could claim simple survival instincts regardless of outcome. If the wolves left behind to die you'd argue evolutionary survival. If they succeeded you'd claim pack preservation. The fact that they die in a lost cause is an irrational, evolutionary suboptimal action that points to and supports an emotional investment.

When I was a Christian, I thought I had a spiritual counterpart that was like me, but non-corporeal, ectoplasmic, That was what I equated with a soul. And also felt all animals had one too. When I died and after the world ended, I would be alive again, but not strictly corporeal, in heaven, and so would all my pets and I could play with them forever. Then, eventually, over many years of experience, I realized I couldn't believe in an all-loving God who cared about human beings, who prevented suffering, and so on. And then shortly after that I accepted that I would not live again in heaven and see people and pets I loved. That was, for me, the hardest thing to let go of.
you know, christians don't all have the same eschatology. a lot of xtians seem to think life will be incorporeal in heaven, in spite of what revelation says. i knew a christian who didn't believe in a soul, and that when we die, we stay entirely dead until god resurrected us. i don't think any two christians believe in the same god or afterlife concept.
I have seen a movie of people who occupy territory shared with lions, and a man who can speak and with his tone and body language tell a lion that he must not steal the prey that he himself has just killed, and the lion retreats. These people do not routinely attack lions. This relationship can fail if strangers appear and act like lions' enemies.
Does a lion have an immortal soul? What about a bull, or a bull elephant?

In the gospels, Jesus knew in advance that Judas would betray him and that he would be killed. So he absolutely did it to himself, and if he's omniscient & omnipotent, there is no other possibility. It was the plan from day 1.
One other possibility is that the story is a complete fiction.

Love is a feeling an emotional feeling, which isn't quantifiably accurate, not like fear which can be triggered pretty easily, but love? fMRI can track brain regions for stimulus, how closely related is joy, or.... Awe, I'm sure love is evolutionary in its own way, keep the breeding of species although grudge sex may not include love, yet still produce offspring, so what if it doesn't rise to the occasion of love, maybe ...crush, does crush trigger stimulus like love, or a different region, point being, jealousy is not an emotion! How does one decipher what counts as emotion, the chemical factory of the brain, the hypothalamus releases the chain molecule triggers the fight or flight reaction, which gets the awareness levels piqued to save life, that's an evolutionary benefit, jealousy is not an evolutionary benefit so there's no molecular chemical chain dispensing jealousy into the bloodstream ergo, not emotion. Anger and suspicion, I don't know the proper mix of chemicals but whatever combo we've now labeled as jealousy, there's many feelings like love, jealousy, etc that are not an evolutionary benefit so many mislabeled emotions/feelings being conflated as biology, the soul, another unquantifiable thing, hijacked and used as control verbage, doesn't make it a part of reality
