In the past we've tried opening up the channel to comments, but we found that a very high number of episodes wound up being flooded with a combination of spam, long winded apologists, and various obscene or misogynistic comments directed at various hosts by people with an axe to grind. This seems to be the nature of TH-cam comment sections, in our experience.
We do moderate the blog, the same way that we moderate chat during the show, as well as comments on our Facebook group. For comment sections that are "officially" associated with our show (and, to a much lesser extent, channels that may give the unintended appearance of being official), we prefer not to play host to straight up ad hominem attacks and bigotry. As a general policy we do not block commenters simply on the basis of disagreement with our point of view. However, we do prefer discussion environments that don't actively chase off more reasonable contributors.

Most Christians I talked to tell me straight away that I am going to hell for not believe in Jesus. It doesn't matter how good person I am in life, it doesn't matter how many people I helped in life, I am going to hell regardless because I don't accept Jesus.
The funny thing they tried to justify that is a good decision on why I go to hell and Jesus never wrong, Jesus is always right and all that craps.
And I tell you their actions are understandable to FEAR because if God or Jesus able to destroy the world once, and said will destroy the world again, even if a Devil, they will start to worship that Devil and praise him for all the good things because of FEAR.

Man I had a conversation that went EXACTLY like this.
Sadly, the person fully admitted that I would go to hell in the event of a sudden death, and that the God who would send me there was perfect, just, and wonderful. I asked him how we could be friends if he felt that way. I never got an answer, and the friendship pretty much died at that moment, at least in my eyes.
Same happened to me. One of my childhood friends told me that I was going to burn in hell and he fully believes that it would be what I deserved for not accepting his beliefs. Shit broke my heart and forced me to walk away from someone I considered my brother.

@@TraitorFelon.14.3 Problem is some Christians will selectively interpret that and basically say they get more special treatment in regards to it or it really just applies to them.
Also, they likely don't even make the nuance between belief and conduct that is common in jurisprudence and think they can just street preach and not get arrested or such if they create a hostile climate, antagonize people or otherwise break the law by actions.
Talk about projection, huh. I think this is what Mark would do if he was god and someone spoke ill of him. You can hear the contempt in his voice. In Sunday "school" (same denomination as Matt's) I was directly told that I was guilty of murder and needed to be "saved" because "Jesus died for my sins". (!!!)...I was 5 years old. My reaction was shock. How could I possibly be responsible for any wrongdoing of any kind...??? -- I hadn't even lived long enough!
The lies I was told by religionists could fill a book. Sometimes I'm tempted...

I reviewed this episode again today....and just was wondering how hell could be either "separation from 'god's' grace and love", or "separation from 'god'", unless the existence of the "god" has first been demonstrated? My idea of hell is having to stay in heaven praising and worshiping a deity that would have sent me to eternal torture have I not made this strategic decision. Then having no way to escape this strangulation of morality. I'dd rather be in hell burning for being honest than to sit in heaven applauding my own conquest.

The caller's idea was the jail analogy in response to Matt previously asking him how a person could be separated from an omnipresent god. They discussed it.
This is one of the top 10 best shows ever. Maybe there is a god who created life, but it's definitely not the god written about in any book. Sure, we would all like to live forever,but that just doesn't happen. If god were real, he wouldn't be hiding behind a myth. It's just wishful thinking by hopeful humans who can't accept the sad truth. YOLO Make the best of it.

I never understood the concept of hell. Eternal torture for what reason? There is only 5 reasons to torture. Reform but thats only if you let them live after. Interrogation. Force ideaology or confession. Crime prevention but that only works if people see it happening and want to avoid similar fate. Lastly is just sadism. If you torture then kill them or torture forever then it served no point.
Besides the wages of sin is death and only death according to the old testament.

Not for the caller. If he studied his theology then he would have definitive answer to matt's question. As the criteria is stated in the book, although with bunch of contradicting interpretation depending on whoever read it. Just like the content of the book is just contradicting itself.
It is. But the called doesn’t realy say I don’t know in the way science or atheists do that. He responds with it while being asked why what he claims to to know is the case. We on the other hand use it when we just don’t know. But if we don’t we don’t draw conclusions or make claims about it.

"Hell is other people"...I guess Sartre may have had a difficult time with the concept of "well-being" as a basis for moral determinations. But then again, I've never been a Sartre fan, though I often feel in agreement with his classic final line from "No Exit".
So if someone lives a life of love and kindness and does only wonderful unselfish things but they don't believe in God... then they go to hell when they die. BUT, if Hitler had accepted Jesus as his savior before he died... then he would have gone to heaven! Great system there. This single concept should be enough of an argument for atheism.

The thing is, tons of guys get mentally bent out of shape from despair while incarcerated, and many start reading those bibles.
This is why I say that fellow atheists shouldn't use the "atheist vs theist incarceration stats" argument in debate. Many atheists may convert in prison.
And others, knowing that "touched by Jesus" goes over well (still!) with parole boards...fake it.
Or, since there are so many "serious grade" theists in stir...and they form Christian or Muslim gangs...convert (or fake it) to fit in. And survive.

Actually the current Pope has said that atheists can enter heaven. You have to be a really good one and there's probably some hidden tricks and tips but he's said so.

I was raised in a wonderful orthodox religion where I was told that my godless grandfather was going to heaven because he was a good person. So, I am not Christian anymore but according to the religion I was raised in, you dont have to be a god believer, you just have to match what the god wants from you, which doesnt include worshiping him. When I grew up I found out it was Orthodox/Pagan religion mixture. Idk if that makes any difference(98% of those ppl dont know that).
They are trying to avoid admitting that their perfect god is unjust, unfair, and immoral, that's all.

mark is a canadian and as one myself, i am feeling that he knows the answer but his decency and manners that alot of us canadians have, is stopping him from coming right out and condemning matt. However a lot of Canadians realize this and use that time to think about why it is that the conversation would need to go this way anyway which leads a lot to become Atheist, as they actually take the time to consider the possibilities to ensure confidence in stating such a harsh social assertion against a fellow person. *NOTE: however this is not everybody of course, but from my experience its the social construct to which i had analyzed and concluded.

I think what he is saying, in his fervent manner, is that the caller's issues have to do with things other than his nation of residence. Not all Canadians are the same, just as not all Americans, Brazilians, Chinese, etc are the same. And that many people from many countries are decent and have good manners.
The caller obviously suffers from fallacious logic and intellectual dishonesty, and your comment appears to offer a defense to this by means of your patriotic assertion that since the caller is a fellow Canadian, that he must be decent and have good manners by not condemning Matt outright.

To be fair after watching some of the other hosts when the caller doesn't directly answer a question whatever point they are trying to make is irrelevant. They realize that giving a yes/no answer will either show that their belief is incompatible with logic or that they don't practice what they are supposed to believe. I've had many of these conversations myself, there's no point letting the person ramble on about nonsense trying to not answer the question. Same thing a lawyer would do and the same thing you learn in debate 101.
